Does Santa come to your street?

Was minding my own business sitting on the sofa when I heard loud Christmas music. Weird, it's normally a very quiet little street. Suddenly it struck me... SANTA WAS OUTSIDE. Flashbacks and memories to Santa on the back of a flatbed truck coming down my childhood street giving out sweeties (And collecting for charity).

After yelling SANTA at DP (Yes I am a massive child) And running to put the blinds up and DP is just looking at me like Hmm

So I explained and made him come and look at Santa... and he had never seen it before in his life. I thought this was a common thing?! I remember it every year everywhere i lived until I moved into the city centre and this is the first December since I've lived somewhere residential...

So, Does Santa blare his music whilst trubdling down your street on a truck? Grin

Yes, every year, we love it. Takes about two weeks for him to go round the whole town, they publicise the timetable in advance. Even though the DCs are teens now they still look forward to him coming round.

Yes Sutton Coldfield (Birmingham suburb). Not sure what the charity is.

No: London suburb as child.

Wow reading that just gave me a flashback to the Rotary Club Santa on his flatbed truck of my youth!! With gaudy lights and loud carols and the entourage of bucket wielding collectors in elf hats! Have lived in a city for the last 15 or so years so haven't seen 'Santa' for ages! Recently moved to a 'naice' area so will keep my eyes peeled! Thanks for the memory OP! Grin

Wellandtrulyoutnumbered · 04/12/2017 21:34

Yes he came this evening. Great fun!

Toomanycats99 · 04/12/2017 21:37

I'm helping out on our local one next week/ they do 13 nights and I think they allocate different charities each night to help collect.

TheHeartOfTeFiti · 04/12/2017 22:01

Yes Scouts here & rotary & round table in neighboring small towns.
What’s the lions?

Blankiefan · 04/12/2017 22:07

HE'S COMING TOMORROW Grin

They have an online tracker so you can see where he is. I love it.

It's quite new to me as they didn't so it where I grew up but people who've always lived here love it and I can see why.

happymumof4crazykids · 04/12/2017 22:08

I've never had this! I live in a city but think it would be a wonderful thing for the children!

BelafonteRavenclaw · 04/12/2017 22:14

Yep. He travels around our Welsh village on Christmas Eve and gives the children a small gift (smuggled to the local post office a week before) and tells them to get off to bed before he pops back later with the reindeer.
They knock on each house (of families who have signed up) and local teenagers dress up as elves to help out.
It's a small place and my boys love listening out for the music and lights. It's a wonderful tradition. Never had anything like it where I grew up.

Eilasor · 04/12/2017 22:15

Santa rides farm equipment around our village (Shropshire) (I wish I could tell the difference between a tractor and a combine etc but...no), it's wonderful Grin. He plays "I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus" and "here comes Santa Claus". It's ridiculous but amazing. I never had this growing up as I lived in London.

Equimum · 05/12/2017 07:21

Not where I live now, but as a child, Santa drove a horse and carriage round my village the Saturday before Christmas!

Iwantacampervan · 05/12/2017 08:22

He came yesterday to our road courtesy of the Lions ( a volunteer organisation similar to Rotary which raises money/ helps with local projects) about 6.30 - lots of children came out to see Father Christmas and he spent time chatting to them. The Rotary Club do the next village/edge of town - as well as bringing FC to the lights switch on. Dates are published in advance so you know when your area will be covered. I really like it even though my two are apparently too old to go out (I do remind them of the time they followed the sleigh up the road on rollerskates when it was icy!)

bookgirl1982 · 05/12/2017 08:25

Yes he's coming next week with the Lions. The local Facebook group is very excited!

Drogonssmile · 05/12/2017 08:29

Yep. Had it growing up in the North West and just looked it up, it's coming here on the 18th. Still in the NW but further north! It's the rotary club here too.

Justgivemesomepeace · 05/12/2017 08:34

Yep we have one run by the local community group. They have a Facebook page and all the details are on that. He goes out for 4 night around the area. My streets not on the route but he starts off about 4 streets away so we just go a little walk and track him down!

Ginorchoc · 05/12/2017 08:38

Yes we do, it’s great can hear him before seeing him.

PiggyPlumPie · 05/12/2017 08:40

Rotary Club Santa came round on Friday! I was the only one to go out, DC too old/miserable. I got the sweets though - that'll make teach them!

MadisonAvenue · 05/12/2017 08:41

Yes! He came to our street last night.

My children are grown up now but the dog thinks it's wonderful and every year as soon as he hears the bells and music in a nearby street he's in the window waiting Xmas Grin

WitchesHatRim · 05/12/2017 08:42

Yes every year.

Love it.

AChickenCalledKorma · 05/12/2017 08:43

Yes, and DD2 will be one of his little helpers, in Scout uniform and Santa hat. (If I can find the Santa hats by Thursday evening .....)

Iwantacampervan · 05/12/2017 09:41

The advantage of ours is that we live in a longish cul de sac so we get to see him twice!

Haudyerwheesht · 05/12/2017 09:42

Yes he does here

Justabadwife · 05/12/2017 11:02

I am in Cumbria and he is coming next Tuesday (I think) it's great me and dd love it, but less and less people come out for it now :(

I loved it as a child, the same guys came every year and they knew the houses with kids in, so would post packets of sweets through the door so they didn't miss out.
