Christmas

Stuck on 9yo DS. What are your boys asking for?

What are the 8/9/10 year old boys in your life asking for this Christmas?

I usually find my nearly 9yo son so much easier than my 5yo daughter to buy for but I'm drawing a bit of a blank. He has his birthday in a couple of weeks too so I need a few ideas. I'm reluctant to buy more lego as he has loads.

We are thinking of getting him a stunt scooter for Christmas so that would be a main present. And I've already bought him some Hexbug battlebots for his birthday. But I'm also expecting some requests for ideas from the Grandparents. He likes football, basketball and plays the guitar but doesn't need much relating to these hobbies. He saw a Meccano Android thing in a shop recently and added that to his wish list. Any other ideas please?

Xbox one is top of the list here or Lego boost.

Other ideas have included anything Harry Potter related (have bought a hoody from amazon, he’s getting the chess set and also the trivial pursuit game. Bluetooth speakers, practical joke sets, books, board games.

Just turned 8yo is getting mine craft lego & want to get him a non stunt scooter-decathlon supposed to be good but he's just now confident on the mini micro with 2 front wheels!

The Harry Potter audio books are good-read by Stephen Fry, (we only listened to a bit of one on a car journey a year ago then ds Read the books himself.

He got the rubbish plastic mine raft axe/sword thing for his birthday. I think it's awful. He thinks it's boss!

Tons of books, pjs & clothes & a science set. Grandparents bought him a telescope

There’s a sale on in the entertainer,
Managed to get an air hogs drone for £30 instead of £45 and there’s lots of sciencey type kits there

My 8 year old is 9 in December. His main for birthday / Christmas was going to be a new stunt scooter and android tablet. DH has been taking him go karting lately and is making noises about a kart he's seen on eBay which will blow all budgets out of the water Confused so we'll see what comes of that.

He has so much Lego we don't have the room for any more, we get lots of books from the library as he rarely reads one a 2nd time, and watches Netflix on his PS3 so we don't really do DVDs.

He'll end up with a binder for his pokemon cards as well as some new sets, a game (egg roulette or something I think it's called) and some football stuff.

@AllGoodDogs, if you can afford it, do it! We bought ds a motorbike for Christmas when he was 5 (electric but real not a toy) and it’s changed our lives in a way we never dreamed of! He’s now about to pick up his 4th bike and he rides every single weekend and during the week when it’s next getting dark so early! Dh has started riding and even I do a bit. We’ve met so many awesome people and ds has even competed in the British Nationals this year. So it’s been infinitely better than any mountain of plastic crap!

Thanks OSETmum we bought him an electric moto x bike last year and although he likes it he doesn't have the nerve to tackle jumps. He loves it on the flat but we can't persuade him on proper tracks. DH used to race and we always take the boys to the Weymouth beach race in October and all he does is complain about the noise 😂

Ds1 just turned 10 and I think we are going to get him a PS4. That will be his main present. He's also asked for a fluffy onesie.

In his santa sack he will get a MOTD annual, another book like Tom Gates or something, a DVD (not sure which yet), chocolate, a small Lego set, a game, mini rubix cube, fidget cube, top trumps.

Aww that’s a shame @AllGoodDogs. Ds rides trials which can be a bit more sedate (well until they start riding up things that are bigger than me!). He has an OSET bike but is going fully petrol after this month! I guess you’re down south? There’s a big OSET scene down there.

DS is coming out with more ideas now! He has asked for the Sound Moovz bands. Does anyone have them? Are they any good?

He's got his birthday next week...wondering whether to get them for his birthday or wait to see if there is a Black Friday discount and get them for Christmas. What would you do? They are £40 full price. Not loads but quite expensive if they are going to be a 5 minute wonder!

Ds(9) asked for Lego, set of 60 special colouring pencils, artsts set in the box, nano blocks, few games, some books, so far.

He wants ... money Hmm He is Y5 age 9 so most of his friends are 10, and they're all distressingly sophisticated. They wouldn't be happy to be given Lego even if he does indulge his younger brothers by playing it occasionally.

He has been persuaded to write some lists of things he actually likes, including authors, chocolate bars, etc, and shops he would spend money in, so that grandparents can at least get a gift card rather than cash if they'd baulk at that.

Authors (sp his so I don't know if accurate):
Liz Pichon
David Walliams
Roald Dahl (but he has the full box set so Confused why he listed him)
Jeff Kinney (this is Diary of a Wimpy Kid I think)
James Patterson

Yesterday I bought him a Double Dare jelly bean dispenser - in the bargain shop it was £6.99 and an additional packet of jelly beans £2.99.

What he'd really like is a wardrobe full of ugly branded sportswear, and eleventy-six new pairs of trainers/football boots/astro boots etc. He knows that expensive clothing (eg £50 for a particular hoodie he wanted for his summer birthday rather than the £10-20 high street norm) needs to go on a list and won't just be bought in normal clothes shopping. You'll know whether the "in" brand with your child is Adidas or Superdry or Jack Wills or whatever, but that kind of status garment can really make a big difference to a tween and be worn continually until it falls to bits.
