Richmond sausages the lips and arsehole sausages, no thanks. But the rest sounds lovely

kingfishergreen · 07/10/2017 19:00

sonlypuppy now you've gone and killed my favourite thread of the day with your talk of arseholes and pig-lips. Grin

Ropsleybunny · 07/10/2017 19:04

We always have peas. I wouldn't serve the soup, as it's far too filling. We always have homemade Christmas pud and syrup sponge pud, both with custard. You can stuff your trifle, but it's each to their own,

Oncewaswho · 07/10/2017 19:14

I'd also do plain carrots and parsnips not honey roasted, no cauliflower cheese or red cabbage either, we prefer everything savoury and fairly simple.

So for us:

Yorkshire pudding
Turkey
Pigs in blankets
Roasties
Mash
Mashed swede
Steamed carrots
Roasted sprouts with bacon bits
Roasted parsnips
Sage and onion stuffing

Oncewaswho · 07/10/2017 19:15

Oh and no pudding, no one likes Christmas pudding and we're all too full for anything else. We don't eat puddings much. Do get in some nice ice creams for later on and mince pies.

AgathaOHara · 07/10/2017 19:28

I'm cheating like mad this year as we're having 14 for dinner.

I wouldn't usually bother with a starter but the M&S seafood knickerbocker glories look lovely so we'll have them...something else for the two veggies, not decided what yet.

Main will be turkey with stuffing, (homemade) roast potatoes, red cabbage & apple, sprouts with chestnuts, crushed carrot & swede, roast parsnips, cauliflower in white sauce (my fave that insist on) pigs in blankets, bread & cranberry sauces + posh, expensive M&S gravy. Mushroom wellingtons for the veggies.

Pudding (when we can face it) is Christmas pud with brandy butter or cream or chocolate orange bombe with Rudolph ice cream for the kids.

Cheese, cake & mince pies in the evening if necessary.

We are hosting our first Christmas dinner and there about 15 of us!

Roast chicken
Pork belly
Nut roast
Roast potatoes
Stuffing
Roast parsnips
Brussel sprouts
Carrots
Peas
Cauliflower cheese
Yorkshire puddings
Gravy

Followed by
Christmas pudding
Chocolate Yule leg
Pavlova

Can’t wait!

PodgeBod · 07/10/2017 21:58

It's just me, DP, our 2yo and our food-adverse 1yo so we're having chicken instead of turkey. I did a gammon as well last year but it was just too much. Our meal will look something like this:
Chicken
Sausagemeat (dp fave)
Pigs in blankets
Roast potatoes
Stuffing
Mash
Roast parsnips/carrots
Tinned carrots (DD1 fave)
Yorskhires
Broccoli
Gravy

Dessert, that probably won't get touched on the day will be a chocolate Yule log. Which is my favourite Grin

churchilllounge · 08/10/2017 06:02

Canapés to start

Roast turkey- with herb butter

Jamie Oliver gravy- made it last year and it was amazing. I make in advance and put in a thermos till serving.

Apricot stuffing- again did last year and was great.

Chestnut & pear stuffing (www.greatbritishchefs.com/recipes/roast-goose-recipe)

Sausages in bacon

Roast potatoes
Roast parsnips
Celeriac purée
Leeks in butter
Peas
Carrots
Sprouts
Spiced Red cabbage
Cauliflower cheese

Cranberry sauce
Bread sauce

Christmas pudding and clotted cream
Trifle
Cheeseboard

I love Christmas dinner planning!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 08/10/2017 06:59

We're having eggs Benedict for brekkie.

Prawns with aioli for starter, then for 'lunch' at about 2ish beef wellington with dauphinois pots and some green beans.

Xmas pud, cheese, nibbles etc through until bedtime!

Taffeta · 08/10/2017 08:25

Smoked salmon and nibbly bits with champagne at midday

Eat about 3 -
Roast turkey
Stuffing balls
Roast potatoes
Roast parsnips
Sprouts
Carrots
Pigs in blankets
Red cabbage
Cranberry sauce
Gravy

Xmas pudding, brandy butter, custard
Something chocolatey

If people are hungry again about 8-9 put cold stuff out w salad, cheese, crackers, fruit & mince pies.

Years of practice has taught me not to over complicate or over cater. One year I overdid it so much with eleventy million different complicated veggies I was so exhausted and hot I didn't eat any of it myself.

Normalserviceissuspended · 08/10/2017 09:34

You all need green veg? Does no-one have broccoli, peas and beans?

Minidoghugs · 08/10/2017 09:41

You are forgetting the sprouts @normal

just5morepeas · 08/10/2017 09:43

I freeze my red cabbage and then just reheat on the day. I'm debating trying it in the slow cooker this year...

I always make mine in a slow cooker, turns out lovely.

I love red cabbage because it freezes so well and looks really pretty on the plate (oh, and it's yummy!).

Taffeta · 08/10/2017 09:51

Yup sprouts are the green veg.

Parsnips, carrots, sprouts, cabbage. Plenty veg.

Broccoli peas and beans aren't Christmassy!

InTheRoseGarden · 08/10/2017 09:55

Meaty style roast made with seitan
Nut roast
Yorkshire pudding
Stuffing

Roast potatoes
Sprouts
Carrots
Greens or broccoli
Mashed swede and/or red cabbage for DH

Onion gravy
Bread sauce
Cranberry sauce

Pavlova with cream and raspberries

No starter and probably no breakfast - need as much room as possible for the main event!

IncidentalAnarchist · 08/10/2017 09:57

😱 YABU - Richmond sausages?!

ClashCityRocker · 08/10/2017 10:04

This year I am going easy as possible. It's only dh and I.

So
Turkey breast joint cooked in a brandy and marmalade marinade.
Braised red cabbage - poss bought in
Brussel sprouts
Swede and parsnip mash - either made in advance or bought in
Roast potatoes
Roast parsnip - frozen as dh prefers these!
Roast shallot
Brussel sprouts
Pigs in blankets
Yorkshire pudding
Cranberry sauce
Bread sauce (lots of it!)
Gravy
Stuffing

I do feel I ought to have another green vegetable. I might to some peas.
