What skincare range would you buy for a 13 year old girl?

I was thinking Clinique? Are there any ranges you buy for your teenagers? She hasn't hit the spotty stage yet and has good skin in general. I'm just wondering whether there is a range aimed at teenagers?

I've bought her other presents so can afford to spend a bit this month on skincare for her.

Dermalogica do a teen specific range but obvs fairly expensive

teaortequila23 · 30/09/2017 18:17

I personally wouldn't encourage her to use skin care products unless they were organic and natural. It's just a phase and I wouldn't want her to feel more self conscious. Maybe get her some lipgloss or something

TiesThatBindMe · 30/09/2017 18:17

When you say expensive, how much are you talking for facial cleanser, toner and moisturiser?

Simple. I have always used it and I'm heading on 40 and have fantastic skin!

Ttbb · 30/09/2017 18:18

Dermalogica or beauty pie

expatinscotland · 30/09/2017 18:19

I wouldn't unless she's got acne. A good sunscreen is what I'd stick with.

TiesThatBindMe · 30/09/2017 18:19

There is not a hope in hell of her feeling self conscious. She is the most confident child I know. I'm just thinking in terms of her coming into proper puberty and spottiness whether there is something specifically designed for that sort of teenage skin.

It would depend on her skin type; also more expensive doesn't necessarily mean better.

If she has acne prone skin Neutrogena is a good range. If she has normal/sensitive skin then Simple is great. If her skin is not spotty but on the dry side then the newew Nivea range with the different categories is good.

Also be careful what product types you are choosing, i.e. if she has dry skin don't get her a gel cleanser designed for greasy skin, get her a nice cream cleanser.

I never got on with Clinique's 3 step system personally! But it does seem really popular.

RavingRoo · 30/09/2017 18:20

When I was 13, I used Nivea. It’s still the range I’d recommend for kids.

TiesThatBindMe · 30/09/2017 18:20

I was thinking of the Simple range too.

Her skin is probably the epitome of perfect skin, but I did notice a spot recently. So far all she uses is shower gel etc.

My mum bought me the Clinique 3 step set when I was 13 and it's still what I'm using almost 10 years later, I've tried lots of brands from boots/superdrug own brand to Lancôme and other high end stuff but Clinique just suits my skin which has always been normal type, slightly dry in winter but not spotty or greasy. So I think Clinique is a good place to start.

My 15yo uses a whole range of brands.
BodyShop Camomile to cleanse (balm and eye make up remover)

Masque Bar face packs

Aveeno moisturiser

Una Brennan wash off scrub

You could try Liz Earle or Elemis teen
Muslin cloth is good to exfoliate gently

Oh and something from Urban Outfitters that smells of rose (spray) and a two-layered spot lotion that you dip a clean cotton bud in.

TiesThatBindMe · 30/09/2017 18:34

Well she doesn't wear make-up yet apart from stage makeup for drama performances so she wouldn't need anything heavy duty.

The body shop sounds like a very good idea!

Tea I think OP is thinking of skincare rather than cosmetics.
I think a lot is trial and error, if shes got generally good skin you can't go wrong with Simple or Nivea. A lot of teenage skincare ranges are focused on acne prone skin and can be quite harsh and drying so just bear that in mind.

Chestervase1 · 30/09/2017 18:37

Vichy is good as are the other French brands. I personally think Clinique may be a bit strong for 13 year old skin. Botanics from Boots is good.

TiesThatBindMe · 30/09/2017 18:41

Yes, her skin is like a babies skin. Not dry or spotty or anything. Maybe I'm being stupid by getting her a skincare regime when whatever she's doing is working.

OP posts:
Applebei · 30/09/2017 18:42

If she doesn't have spots or any skin issues I'd let her use as little as possible for as long as possible.

Definitely don't give her anything for acne/"teenage" skin as it will be too harsh for her currently unblemished skin and may cause soreness, dryness or even spots.

Does she wear makeup? It would be good to get her in the habit of taking it off properly every night if she does. Eve lom is natural and nice enough to be a bit gifty. Maybe just a non-foaming cleanser, toner and moisturiser.

TiesThatBindMe · 30/09/2017 18:43

I might just go to Lush and get her something from there.

OP posts:
TiesThatBindMe · 30/09/2017 18:44

No she doesn't use makeup apart from for drama performances maybe once every six months.

OP posts:
Applebei · 30/09/2017 18:45

Sorry I meant Liz Earle, not eve lom! I've not tried eve lom but lots of people rate it
