i used to use asda for home delivery but i mainly shop at aldi now. i was thinking about Christmas and how manic the supermarkets get and was debating whether to get the Christmas food shop delivered. i pick up our meat from our local butchers so thats not included in there. im a bit wary incase we dont get half the stuff i order though.
So, my question is, if you had your Christmas food shop delivered last year , which supermarket did you use and did you get everything you ordered

I use Tesco yes I got everything I ordered

icclemunchy · 30/09/2017 14:48

I had Morrisons on Xmas eve and the other thing they didn't have was some bananas! I did however have to delivered before lunch so worst case I could have gone and got anything essential. We also have meat from the butchers and I pick up most of the snacky bits in the weeks leading up

NoWordForFluffy · 30/09/2017 16:30

We use Sainsbury's. Last year there were a few bits missing (nothing critical, however) but that was the first time in many years there had been. I always get it for 23rd so I've time to rectify any issues.

Phosphorus · 30/09/2017 16:33

We have ours delivered by Tesco on the 22nd or 23rd.

That means we have time to get missing stuff or really fresh things (bread etc.) locally.

It's always been fine, but I'd never trust Asda. Certainly not at Christmas.

SweetIcedTea · 30/09/2017 16:39

I use Ocado and usually have a delivery on Christmas Eve.

I've never had any problems with missing items or weird substitutions, according a delivery driver I had a few years ago they have extra staff on who are sent out to Waitrose (or maybe another supermarket for brands) if there's a missing essential item like a turkey or pot of cream, I don't know if they still do that.

JennyOnAPlate · 30/09/2017 16:41

I get it from Sainsbury’s every year on either the 22nd or 23rd. I would never risk leaving it until 24th in case things were missing!

Saying that though, I’ve never had anything vital left off and any (rare) substitutes have been fine.

Daisy03 · 30/09/2017 16:47

Waitrose let us down 2 years ago on the 23rd, didn't even let us know and when we called them up just told us the driver was sick and they had no one else to deliver, ended up with a 2am shop after work that night as was only time could fit it in due to work/childcare.
Would not leave it so tight again, got a £25 compensation but not worth the stress

Bubblysqueak · 30/09/2017 16:51

We have done asda a few years running. The year before last I stupidly ordered the Turkey which was then substituted the day before Christmas eve! Thankfully it was for a much larger Turkey (which just fitted in the oven) rather than a much smaller or Turkey slices or something as we were hosting for 12.

thanks everyone, as long as they dont leave the wine off ill be happy Grin

I was going to do this last year but all the slots were booked up as soon as they became available so make sure you check and book one quick or you might miss out

SpiritedLondon · 30/09/2017 18:27

Just out of interest when do they open the booking for delivery ? Is it a month before or earlier than that?

SweetIcedTea · 30/09/2017 18:39

26th October for Ocado, earlier if you have a smartpass.

Ohwell14 · 30/09/2017 18:42

Just don't use amazon, my friend decided to order a turkey a few days before Christmas last year and amazon somehow managed to lose her order and deliver it to another town completely. She was running round like a headless chicken trying to find a replacement turkey for days Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 30/09/2017 19:43

I had an email from Ocado saying 12th October, not 26th.

What I do is put everything I want into my trolley at the beginning of November and check out for the last date possible. Then, at midnight on the date the slots open I simply amend the date, check out and sit back! Xmas Grin

Wow that's soon. Glad I asked.

StoorieHoose · 30/09/2017 19:47

I've never had a full order deliveries by Asda ever so I imagine they are awful at Christmas. Tesco has never let me down at Christmas and a sneaky M &S order for collection is good too

Taffeta · 30/09/2017 19:57

I had an email from Ocado today saying slots open on 5th Oct....

NoWordForFluffy · 30/09/2017 19:58

I'm doing M&S and Booths to collect with odds and sods from Sainsbury's (I've got a delivery of snacks, drinks and baking ingredients coming tomorrow using £50 of Nectar points to start me off!).

NoWordForFluffy · 30/09/2017 19:59

This is like Ocado top trumps in here! 😅

wobblywonderwoman · 30/09/2017 20:10

I get to aldi for opening time on Christmas eve every year and it is fine. I usually stock up extra on the basic cupboard stuff toilet rolls and tons and cereal the Sunday shop before.

parmavioletmartini · 30/09/2017 20:14

Ocado have never let me down. Well not for the past 6 years anyway.

I had an email this morning saying the slots are open from the 5th October

Maryann1975 · 01/10/2017 00:29

Tesco delivery on the 23rd for me. The past couple of years have been fine. One about 5 years ago was dreadful and had lots of subs, but since then fine. I had a good four years where my cheap Yule log was subbed for a finest one, I'm now terrified of having a cheap one that I have to order a finest one now!
I don't think our Tesco deliver on the 24th, but I wouldn't leave it that late anyway. I'd want to give myself time to get anything I realised I'd forgotten/had been subbed.

Bearwithverylittlebrain · 01/10/2017 00:35

I used Asda last year and they were crap. Most of my order was missing. Won’t be doing that again.

Graphista · 01/10/2017 00:51

I've had horrendous experiences with Asda and Tesco. Just at normal times not Christmas. I use sainsburys now and the rare subs have been fine but mostly get exactly what I order in time.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 01/10/2017 01:04

I always buy as much as I can in advance so that if the order is messed up/stuff missing it's not the end of the world.

We usually do Tesco delivery on 22nd or 23rd and it's always been fine. And we get all the meat including the turkey from our local butcher.
