My 8 year old dd has asked for a Hatchimal this year. I guess I'm lucky she wants it this year and not last year!! I'm just wondering what people's dc thought of them?

MIL bought one for the 5 year old- he loved it while it was hatching then got bored of it. It's currently hiding in my knicker drawer as every time we take the damn thing out it starts up again with its ooing and ahhing!

DubiousCredentials · 28/09/2017 09:02

Dd had one. It's cute, she likes it well enough but has hardly played with it. It just sits with all her other soft toys. But presumably your dd has seen one at a friends house or something by now so will have more of an idea what they are like. My dd just went off YouTube videos and media hype! Personally speaking it wasn't worth the money.

Maudlinmaud · 28/09/2017 09:10

Dd wanted this but I couldn't get hold of one for love nor money. She changed her mind anyway and got a furby which yet again has been ignored
Some children I know did get one and they where not mighty impressed. It didn't do much after hatching I believe. But they enjoyed that part at least. Thats just how it goes though, isn't it? I saw mini ones in sainsbury's a few weeks ago and should have picked one up for the stocking.

Jeffstar79 · 28/09/2017 09:27

DD2 got one for her 6th birthday last year played - with it a little bit. Dd1 who was 9 then insisted she wanted one for Christmas - it's never been looked at since it hatched.

snowmanshoes · 28/09/2017 09:32

Both mine had one last year. They were great fun while they were hatching and over the whole Christmas holidays. After that they haven't been looked at much to be honest. If I could go back in time I would still buy one, but ONE, not one each as dd (6) does occasionally have a little play with hers, elder dd never does.

Nanasueathome · 28/09/2017 09:33

They have them in Costco at the moment

Proudmummytodc2 · 28/09/2017 10:04

My DD got one and she loved it while hatching ect and played with it for 2 days it's sat in her toy box since.

To be honest I thought they were a waste of money just because she only used it for 2 days.

lottieandmia · 28/09/2017 12:16

Thanks. They are releasing some new ones this year. But she likes the look of the old ones do I'd better go for one of them.

My DD (just gone 6 at the time) was desperate for one last year and we managed to get it. I don't regret it as she did really want it but (for us anyway) it definitely wasn't worth the money, the hatching process took a loooong time and she lost interest in it and she has rarely played with it since. If she hadn't been so set on it I wouldn't have got it.

asongforthelovers · 28/09/2017 13:39

We wat he’s ours hatch and it’s never been seen since.

asongforthelovers · 28/09/2017 14:40

That is meant to say - we watched my daughters hatch and it’s now never been seen again.

Fluffysparks · 28/09/2017 20:14

They love them as they hatch, but after ten minutes after the hatching they become a hard soft toy that is hard to cuddle, 50% of the time will be in the colour they didn't want (most of them either come in say purple and green or purple and blue) and it never gets looked at again.

Ninjakittysmells · 28/09/2017 20:23

I have no idea where either the hatchimal or furby are in our house - which tells you how often they are played with here!

XJerseyGirlX · 28/09/2017 20:25

My dd loves hers , she is 5. I made sure I read the instructions and taught her how to use it once it hatched and it's actually pretty good.

Ditsy1980 · 28/09/2017 20:29

DD got one and I don't think it was worth the money. DD loved the hatching stage but within a week had lost interest and it's rarely been played with since.

MulhuddartDrive · 28/09/2017 20:32

Dd was 6 last Christmas and wanted one. I was too cheap to buy into the hypeunfortunately hers was on the boat load that hatched on the way to the north pole, so Santa couldn't distribute them. He left a note that she could get one for her birthday in the summer if she still wanted one. She did, so she did. She has played with it on and off for the last 5 months, definitely more than I expected.

CJCreggsGoldfish · 28/09/2017 20:34

My 5 year old DD loves hers, it's probably played with at least every other day. When she's at school my 2 year old DS likes to play with it too. Now, the bloody singing poppy troll doll, that she was also desperate for, was abandoned on Boxing Day...still bitter about that!

Divingheadfirst · 28/09/2017 20:53

Was fun during hatching, literally never touched since. Waste of money and I worked so hard to secure one as he really wanted one. Got it from germany and over priced too.

Longdistance · 28/09/2017 21:00

Dd6 has one.

We watched it hatch, which was fun. Then it's been intermittently played with. It got played with 2 days ago, but couldn't tell you when it was played with before then.

Dd6 loves animal toys.

christmasunicorn · 28/09/2017 21:18

I got one for the dc to share.

They loved it whilst it hatched but the older two haven’t looked twice at it since but ds(5) loves it. He’s asked for another one this year (I lie - he’s actually asked for another 10!). But he likes things like little live pets, zoomer etc.

Yetanothernamechange1234 · 28/09/2017 21:30

I stalked how to get one!! My dd was desperate for one.she loved the "egg stage" but hasn't really played with it since

lottieandmia · 28/09/2017 21:31

I think this year the ones that are currently on preorder are Twin hatchimals but it's unknown how they will look. I think different from last year.

christmasunicorn · 29/09/2017 20:28

I didn’t know they were bringing out twin ones! Bit expensive for one child but would be great if buying a joint present

lottieandmia · 29/09/2017 21:25

I think last year they were £60 and this year they cost £75.
