Since there doesn't seem to be a poncetastic thread, and to avoid confusion with thread titles, would I be out of order to start this one?

First order of business, a toast to our dearly missed Fellatio Nelson, wherever she may be and a quote from her original thread:

^
"OK, first of all, I know it's still September by we need to start this thread now because as you all know, having a truly Poncetastic Christmas involves precision planning, strategy, bravery, heroics, and frequently martyrdom. A bit like the war in Afghanistan, only with nicer food and sparkly shoes.

So, if you, like me, actually want to make the next twelve weeks of your life a misery by hand-crafting your cards, finding a huge bucket for Nigella's turkey in brine, pickling pears, shrivelling oranges in a low oven for those rustic au naturel decorations, dragging half a holly bush back from the woods, and just generally being a smug annoying jobsworth ponce, join me on this thread.

Feel free to post photos of previous tree-trimming, cake icing or table centrepiece triumphs, discuss this year's bauble colour themes, debate the merits of Delia versus Gordon, road-test a selection of canapes and cocktails, (all in the line of duty) and link to lovely inspirational photos/craft ideas for a truly Poncetastic Christmas.

Warning: If your idea of a good Christmas involves Pizza, ITV, gravy granules or anything with 'Aunt Bessies' on the packet, this is not the thread for you".

Both great ideas- thank you! I will experiment and see what works. I suspect it is the weight of the painting paper on the front that is the problem.

TheWoollybacksWife · 05/11/2017 22:16

If it is the case that the card can't handle the weight of the painting paper can you try using heavier card stock? Trim your paintings leaving a narrow red border and mount on the heavier card.

Beautiful paintings - I really love the holly

Ladies, am I behind the poncing times, as I have just discovered chocolate covered oreos all over printrest. Yes, it sounds like something that would sizzle your fillings but the Christmas ones look just lovely and they will be dead easy to make.

MrsHathaway · 06/11/2017 10:58

The ones I've seen are all blasted with gold spray rather than coated in chocolate. They did look festive though!

KC225 · 06/11/2017 11:25

Arrrggggh so annoying, I can't seem to be able to post a picture

Andylion · 06/11/2017 17:09

I love this thread. I wish I had the money, time and talent to be a Christmas Poncer. I shall have to settle for vicarious enjoyment.

Bloodybridget · 06/11/2017 18:11

This isn't strictly Christmas poncing - in fact it may not be poncy at all - but I have made a calendar for the dolls house. They have their Christmas decorations up, too.

wobblywonderwoman that is very fine! Did you paint it or did it come like that - it looks like a silvery colour? I can see you have decorated it, obviously. We have one to do for DGS that is brown, and decided it would be too difficult to paint it, we're just going to decorate with stickers, and use tile and brick papers on the roof and walls.

Bloodybridget · 06/11/2017 23:15

It's a house shape, I should have said.

wobblywonderwoman · 06/11/2017 23:19

I bought it as untreated wood (got it in The Works for about £15)

The spray is from lidl - only needed a lightish coat. The wooden stickers are from the works and from lidl

Took less than half an hour plus drying time.

wobblywonderwoman · 06/11/2017 23:20

Are you into decoupage? That would work well on the house bloody

Bloodybridget · 06/11/2017 23:40

Ah, I wondered if you'd sprayed it. Maybe we should try that. Considered decoupage, but it seems so small and fiddly - 24 little doors with knobs on!

wobblywonderwoman · 06/11/2017 23:51

The spray worked well, very very fast drying
No bumps or anything. It is in the Christmas aisle at the moment. I bought the shiny silver. But car spray paint would also work well.

The little snowmen etc were really cheap

Bloodybridget · 07/11/2017 03:12

Many thanks for the info!

This weekends efforts bags are for my mother and sister, embroidery hoop is for my grandmother.

Also made more chutney, some chilli jelly, some lime and ginger preserve and some christmas morning jam.

Put some vodka to dissolve some candy canes and seperate lot to infuse orange ginger and cinnamon as won't have time for much else now! Xmas Shock

The hoop is gorgeous and I adore the rabbit / hare!

LostMyRubySlippers · 07/11/2017 12:36

The bags are beautiful! I am planning to get the DC to make bags for their grandmothers (we were meant to do it last year!) but I don’t quite think they will look like yours ha ha!

Finally managed to make my mincemeat this morning. Next job is to do the arancello but haven’t bought the vodka yet! Need to get a shift on.
Also have several unfinished —unstarted— craft projects Blush
As ever, my ability to get things done does not live up to my vision Confused I start September with the best of intentions but before I know it, it’s Nov & nothing has been done!

Chillywhippet · 07/11/2017 12:42

Ooh lovely things.
Still behind as having bedroom turned into two rooms so all hell has broken loose.

Not Christmassy but seasonal and home grown. Tried to grow courgettes. Must have saved seeds I think because they grew into these beauties which were useless for eating but made great lanterns

Oh my goodness @MrsCrimbo74 - how long will it take you to wrap each gift- beautiful!

I may or may not have bought a light up reindeer off a Facebook selling page today. It's very cute. Not sure where it will go outside, so may bring him indoors and let the children have him as a pet. It can be this year's 'elf on the shelf'!?
