How many people do you buy for?

Excluding OH and our children, we have 16 people to buy xmas presents for.

The 16 people are our parents, siblings (a couple of partners) and nieces and nephews, plus one other family member. We also have two new babies due, so next year, we'll have 18 to buy for!!!

We spent about £20 per person. I try to buy throughout the year and bargain hunt to keep it all manageable.

Just wondering how many people everyone else has to buy for?

Parents and in-laws
3 kids
2 niece/nephews and sometimes their parents
Lodger especially if staying over Xmas
MrNC.
Best mate.

And stash of biscuits and booze for teachers, cleaner, neighbours and anyone else who gives us stuff.

10-12 people with actual presents but lots of food and drink and hospitality - often have 60 people for NYE (much easier than finding a babysitter!)

This year there is:
My dad and stepmum
One set of grandparents on my side

My sister, brother in law, and there baby (due October)
My brother
My uncle and aunt
Mother in law and farther in law

About 30. This year though I'm doing a joint present for adults, wine and chocs, that should cut me down by 5 and just buy something for their dc. Can't believe I didn't do it years ago.

CheerfulMuddler · 25/09/2017 15:46

Mum
DH mum
DH dad
Brother
Sister in law
DH brother
DH sister in law
2 nephews
Goddaughter
Four friends (though DH and his best friend are often late and lackadaisical about this - depends if he's seen something he thinks she'd like)
Cleaner
DS childminders

DH does his parents, BF and brother and sil though. And cleaner and childminders just get a bottle of wine.

ElmerFudge · 25/09/2017 15:52

Mum
Dad
Sister
DH
BIL
Friend (she lives abroad from her family)

We keep things simple at Christmas with a price limit / choose your own gift policy.
Same with food. Enough goodies for a couple of days, nothing too indulgent.

SheepyFun · 25/09/2017 16:26

9, including DH/DD

DH is (and always has been) responsible for buying for his family. I stay well out of who he buys for and what he buys. Dealing with his family (arranging meet-ups, presents etc.) is his responsibility, which makes my life much easier!

CurlsandCurves · 25/09/2017 16:31

Mum and dad-joint gift bought with my brother and his family from all of us.
2 nephews and 1 niece.
2 kids
1 teacher (only buy for the primary school teacher, apparently no one buys for secondary school tutor)

That's it. DH and I don't buy for each other and brother and I agreed to just buy for the kids a few years ago.

Nanasueathome · 25/09/2017 16:35

Elder son and daughter in law
2 grandchildren
Daughter and partner
1 grandchild
Younger son
Sister

Have cut down an awful lot but still seem to spend a fortune

notangelinajolie · 25/09/2017 16:37

Me and DH don't buy each other anything.
Jointly we buy for
Our 3 kids
His Dad
My mum.

That is all we have in our little family 😞😀

noramum · 25/09/2017 16:37

4:
2x PIL - often a joint gift though

my mum - I spoil her as she never spoils herself, so normally 2-3 gifts plus a birthday gift (beginning of January) which all go to her together by post

1 Secret Santa with 3 friends, we buy normally clothes for the children. We agree on a budget and get a name from an online tool one of my friends uses.

Easy, cheap and no stress at all.

InDubiousBattle · 25/09/2017 16:39

We buy for:
Dad
DP's parents
3 siblings plus 3 partners
4 nephews and neice
4 other dc of friends

So 17 plus our dc. Me and dp don't usually buy for each other. In previous years we've generally spent £30 each for parents, siblings and their partners, £40 each for neices and nephews and around £10-15 for friends dc. This year I want to halve that!

SweetIcedTea · 25/09/2017 20:37

Only 12 thankfully including the dog and cat.

I've cut back over the years I don't buy for neighbours, teachers, colleagues etc. just immediate family and very close friends.

PodgeBod · 25/09/2017 21:06

Just jotted down 35 and I'm sure I've missed some. I'm so jealous of those with less then 10. It's ridiculous and I'm out of work so we just can't afford it.
Is it rude to give a heads up? "I know we usually exchange gifts but things are tight this year and you didn't make the cut?"
