How many people do you buy for?

chanie44 · 20/09/2017 22:47

Excluding OH and our children, we have 16 people to buy xmas presents for.

The 16 people are our parents, siblings (a couple of partners) and nieces and nephews, plus one other family member. We also have two new babies due, so next year, we'll have 18 to buy for!!!

We spent about £20 per person. I try to buy throughout the year and bargain hunt to keep it all manageable.

Just wondering how many people everyone else has to buy for?

Excluding my DD, I buy for 19 people.

Out of those, 7 are immediate family who I spend more on and the other 12 are extended family and friends' children who get token gifts.

Brittbugs80 · 21/09/2017 20:25

We buy for 5 parents, 1 Grandad, 4 sister's, 3 brothers in law, 4 nieces, 2 nephews, 1 great nephew, 1 nephew in law, my two bosses, 14 children I babysit for, my friend and her husband, my old work colleague and her baby, DS teacher and teaching assistant, 6 after school club staff, swimming teacher, 3 cubs leaders so 50 people altogether.

Then obviously we buy for DS and each other.

That's one reason I start shopping early!

peterpancollar · 21/09/2017 20:59

20 altogether and this is the reduced list. If we exclude ourselves, that's 16 gifts for close family & friends.

LittleMousewithcloggson · 21/09/2017 21:18

Cut right back as was getting ridiculous. Don't buy for siblings or nieces and nephews any more, instead we meet up for a pre Christmas outing. Just buy for:

Husband
2 children
4 grandparents (from kids)

Also gifts for teachers and coaches - normally vouchers

IJustGotHitByADeer · 23/09/2017 20:21

I'm knitting and crocheting for 15 people - some family, some friends and one or two from church. Also buying small gifts for family. I LOVE Christmas and luckily I come from a family who will appreciate and actually use homemade gifts Smile

ja9r · 23/09/2017 21:35

Over 50. its crazy.

Dh and 3Dc

4 parents
8 siblings & partners
8 nieces / nephews
4 aunts/ uncles
12 children of friends
3 'family' gifts to cousins families

10 Variety of teachers / coaches

I'd be keen to cut down a bit. But I'm not going to be the one to instigate. Tried to suggest to one of the friends we don't see so often... but didn't work!

singadream · 23/09/2017 22:26

I keep it v small. My parents and pil. Dnephew and niece. Dh.

Kids make something for teachers.

One friend always sends for my dc. I would prefer they didn't. If I remember in time in send her kids.

I persuaded db and sil that we should just do kids. They were miffed but agreed.

Unihorn · 23/09/2017 22:33

Haven't done siblings in about ten years. Same with grandparents. My parents insist we don't buy them anything but I have to as they do for me and I'd feel awful! Used to buy for ten nieces and nephews but have finally called it a day on that so am now just down to two children!! So much relief.

Jfw82 · 23/09/2017 22:39

20
DH
Ds
DSS and dsd
4 parents
3 grandparents
DB and dsil
Dsis
BFF her DH and dd (my god daughter)
3 other good friends

ja9r · 23/09/2017 22:43

I do love shopping. And having so many folk to buy for gives me an excuse to shop all year around. I get a kick out of a good bargain but have always used this to the advantage of the recipient rather than saving money myself.

anyoldname76 · 24/09/2017 08:26

we buy for my 2 neices, my mum and dad, dh nan, dbro and sil, joint present for dsis and bil x 2 and a secret santa present at work. i dont get presents for friends or their children as weve agreed it just starts mounting up.

crazypenguinlady · 24/09/2017 08:31

My parents (usually do seperate)
Eldest brother
Middle brother and SIL (either separate or joint depending on what they want)
DPs parents (already sorted)
My Gran
Three children (friends' kids)
I think DP might get a few things for his mates

Me and DP are just doing a small token item for each other and then our son. It's his first one so can't wait Grin

Crispsheets · 24/09/2017 08:35

Partner
Ds and girlfriend
Dd
That's it. Even when I was married I never did PILs and extended family. It makes life so much easier.

BanyanTree · 24/09/2017 08:40

Excluding my DH and DC I buy for 7.

TroysMammy · 24/09/2017 08:43
  1. partner, mother, father, sister, brother in law, niece.
pinotgrigio1 · 24/09/2017 08:55

Far too many! But, I do enjoy it!!

Parents
Grandparents
Nieces and nephews (we have lots!)
God children

We then buy small thank you gifts for teacher, TA and nursery.

There's probably someone who I've forgotten there!

CakeNinja · 24/09/2017 08:58

46 not including dp and the 3dc so 50!
Bloody hell, it's a lot isn't it? Shock
Lots of nieces and nephews on both sides, lots of godchildren, both of our parents remarried and had further children so double the grandparents and siblings etc.
And we are all really close!
This total doesn't include teacher presents as they just get a token bottle of wine or box of chocs bought on the way to school!

goodeggsarehardtocatch · 24/09/2017 09:00

Excluding our dcs and dh, I think we are up to 46. TBH 18 are token gifts Chocs, bottles of wine and amazon vouchers but it does mount up

goodeggsarehardtocatch · 24/09/2017 09:06

Just added it up it's actually 56 ! Bugger

rachrach2 · 24/09/2017 09:09

About 40, seems so many! We have 3 siblings between us all married with 3 children each, 5 grandparents still alive, 4 godchildren, parents and then a few children of very close friends and cousins. I'm hoping to drop two this year, I just need to email them.

I've made a good start already and my children get quite a few second hand things like playmobil. We don't buy for each other and our family buy us things we ask for for the house mainly.

SellMySoulForMoreSleep · 24/09/2017 09:19

Ooh, I've never added it up but there are

4 parents
4 siblings
7 nieces/nephews
2 friends
4 members of family in New Zealand
2 teachers
4 leaders cubs/beavers

27! Blimey!

This doesn't include each other (me and DH) or our children (2).

No wonder I'm broke in January!!

Opheliasgoldenwine · 24/09/2017 11:28

DP, DD, MIL, PIL(maybe), four siblings, my mum, my grandmother, DP's grandmother, I think that'll be it for this year. DP will be by miles the most expensive Sad

ohtheholidays · 24/09/2017 12:46

About 100,but I have a large family and we buy for my DH's family and we have 5DC and we buy little gifts for our pets and for the childrens teachers and the children buy little gifts for they're friends as well.

Luckily I love Christmas if my DH had to do it all on his own I think he'd run away and hide until January Grin
