Wrapping presents

Random question but do you wrap your Santa presents to your dc?

DH and I never had our presents wrapped they were just sitting out on Christmas morning. But I always see in films and tv shows the presents are always wrapped.

Of course. Seperate paper

PatriciaHolm · 17/09/2017 20:09

Wrap everything, though to be fair nothing was ever from Santa.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/09/2017 20:12

When my DC were little they had the Stocking Gifts wrapped to give DH and I some extra time Xmas Grin

We used to put them in the same room on Christmas Eve (they'd only tolerate this for one night) , we'd hear DS creeping downstairs then run back up to tell DD "He's been" !
We started putting wrapping paper across the living room doorway and a small fibre optic light on a timer that Father Christmas would switch on when he went back up the chimney .
Under the tree , presents from us are in each persons' paper (so I don't need tags and it's easy to see which is DD and which is DS pile)

Now they're teenagers , it is more important to wrap them really well, they only get a few presents because they cost so much (think £15 Urban Decay lipstick for DD or £45 XBox Game for DS )

Last year she wanted lots of earrings (silver so £3ish each) I wrapped in those little card wallets with tissue.

I'm not a huge fan of wrapping so good sharp scissors, good sticky tape in a dispenser , big rolls of thick paper and the ironing board as a wrapping table.

The only thing I don't wrap is the tiny teddy bear I buy for DD each Christmas because that would be cruel Xmas Wink

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 17/09/2017 20:19

We've never done presents from Santa, they have all been from mum and dad (with Santa as a glorified postman). But yes everything wrapped (apart from bikes, which just have big bows)

Brittbugs80 · 18/09/2017 06:12

Everything from relatives arrives wrapped, we wrap DS presents and in our house, Father Christmas brings one present and that is wrapped and left in a red sack somewhere in the house on Christmas Day.

I've seen children on ex side who were disgusting as they were told Father Christmas brings everything and presents given by family/friends had the labels removed and replaced with ones that said from Father Christmas. No thank you's were ever given for gifts received and they get everything on their lists every year, because Father Christmas is magical and brings you everything you ask for Hmm

MuddlingThroughLife · 18/09/2017 07:17

Although everything in our house comes from Santa and the kids used to make large lists when younger, when it came to actually writing their letter to Santa they were only allowed to ask for five things and were warned they may not get everything they've asked for. Presents from relatives were from relatives not Santa.

I only have one who still believes now. Probably last year of believing. 🎗

NoseyJosey · 18/09/2017 07:26

Santa adheres to family traditions, so can wrap some but not others. Kids want to believe, so they accept any information that plugs holes in their dream. It's beautiful.
Wrapped in this house too, but I always watch it get ripped off and think of the hours I spent wrapping. Luckily I LOVE wrapping

00100001 · 18/09/2017 07:27

We wrap everything.

Stocking presents included. I will wrap up individual tubes of sweets and lollies etc.

Used to take a good 40 minutes to open stockings this way. DS would bring his into our bedroom shouting about how his stocking was full. He'd chuck it on the bed, grab our stockings for us from the side a

And we all open them. Comparing notes ("ooh, FC got me orange hot chocolate sachet, I wonder if you have one....." He'd then rummage about for a likely candidate and exclaim that "I have a mint one!! How does he know that is my favourite???")

Then we have to choose which bit of chocolate we are going to have for breakfast in bed Grin

christmasunicorn · 18/09/2017 07:32

Everything in our house is delivered by Santa and everything is wrapped!
Dc write their list then leave it under the tree with the mince pie and drink. That's why they don't get everything they ask for because it depends what Santa has left in his sack by the time he reaches our house. They are also only allowed to write down 6 things.

BiddyPop · 18/09/2017 07:40

Everything under the tree is wrapped and clearly from various relatives and friends. That includes both DH and I for each other, and something from us to DD.

Anything that Santa brings is in or around the stocking in the middle of the room and nothing there is wrapped.

IggyAce · 18/09/2017 07:47

In our house Santa brings the DCs one gift each with I normally wrap on plain silver or red Wrapping paper. Everything else is from us and to save me writing out tags I have a set wrapping paper for each DC.

jo10000 · 18/09/2017 07:59

I never had them wrapped and after a year of dd feverishly unwrapping and being disappointed until she got to the one she wanted we told Father Christmas the next time we saw him that for the sake of the environment we didn't wants ours wrapped. Much better since and no comparisons with other kids.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 18/09/2017 08:02

I always wrapped them, but in different (cheaper!) paper than presents from us - bit of a giveaway otherwise. In our family Father Christmas only ever brought relatively small things, other presents were under the tree and labelled from whoever.

Unihorn · 18/09/2017 08:15

I always thought everyone had all of their presents from Father Christmas, apart from relatives' presents. It wasn't until I met my husband that I discovered otherwise and I was quite shocked. I don't ever remember comparing what I had with my friends when I was little though so I don't think it crossed my mind to consider the differences in what some children were brought compared to others.

SpiritedLondon · 18/09/2017 08:22

Yes because you received presents ( as did I) but I promise you if you don't receive them you definitely notice !

user1471495191 · 18/09/2017 08:28

We remove and recycle/bin any unnecessary packaging and make up toys (unless it is something where construction is part of the fun), then most presents are wrapped accept for any particularly big/challenging ones which might get hidden. A few token gifts and stocking fillers from Santa are wrapped in different paper. Big presents from us and then family presents mixed in (family buy and wrap but Santa delivers everything together Wink)

AreWeThereYet000 · 18/09/2017 08:33

We wrap everything and all gifts that are put out from us on xmas eve are from Santa, presents given before christmas from family and friends go under the tree and as tradition the kids are allowed to pick one present from under the tree to open xmas eve, the same as my parents did for me

AtlanticWaves · 18/09/2017 08:42

Everything is wrapped.

Stockings are from father christmas.

Presents under the tree are from us and relatives.

When I was a child, the presents under the tree would appear bit by bit and I just loved it. We were very good and never touched or tried to open them. I love looking at a tree with presents under it!

My 2 have always been too little to do that - I think we might need to wait another year or so. So we just put the presents down on Christmas Eve once they're in bed.

At the moment they can open their stockings with us once they're awake. But have to wait for Grandparents to arrive before opening the tree ones.

Isadora2007 · 18/09/2017 10:14

The presents from us only go out on Xmas eve- tree presents are ones to be delivered by us to friends or neighbours and then ones given over December BY friends or neighbours.
All our presents are wrapped, even stocking ones. Though maybe not tubes of sweets and I unbox a choc orange so it fits in the toe of each stocking.
No santa here so none of that concern.

ALittleMop · 18/09/2017 10:17

yep
wrapped cackhandedly in tissue paper when drunk on Xmas eve
santa presents are stocking only

ime kids do talk about it at school etc but are accepting of it being different in other people's houses. what you do have to do is be consistent in your own home year to year. If you change it all hell breaks loose. Take it from me.

SimplyPut · 18/09/2017 10:39

Father Christmas fills the stockings and brings one gift each. They are all wrapped in brown paper with north pole stamps and red ribbon.

Every other present is wrapped with some placed under the tree before Christmas and a few on Christmas eve.

Justgivemesomepeace · 18/09/2017 10:42

Everything is wrapped here. Everything is wrapped in everyone elses house I know. Never heard of not wrapping presents unless they're in a gift bag.

booellesmum · 18/09/2017 10:51

We don't wrap Santa presents. The kids leave their santa bag under the tree on xmas eve and santa fills it.
Presents from family already wrapped and under the tree.
It has worked well for the last 16 years!

drspouse · 18/09/2017 11:02

Nothing in stockings is wrapped, that is from Father Christmas
Everything else is from someone specific and is wrapped. Unless it's in a gift bag.

I think the children will cope with the fact that different things happen in different houses.

Proudmummytodc2 · 18/09/2017 11:08

We wrap here.

But if we buy things like wooden kitchens, bikes ect they are built and left out but everything else is wrapped.

It was the same when we were kids everything was wrapped for us.

I even put wrapping paper over my living room door and the kids have to break through it they love it. I suppose everyone is different.
