Where did you buy your Christmas Eve box?

I would like to buy one. Ideally personalised but don't have huge amounts to spend. Ideally it won't say Eve on it in case I decide to do it before or on Christmas morning. I'd like it to be big enough to store the baubles and decorations in the rest of the year.

Mine is an old hamper that I picked up from a charity shop! Not particularly Christmassy, but I put tinsel round the handle Smile

Babyblues14 · 27/08/2017 23:16

Never bought one myself but have seen nice ones on amazon

MrsJoyOdell · 27/08/2017 23:20

Hello Lovely on Facebook - gorgeous stuff and the lady who runs it is indeed lovely Wink

MrsJoyOdell · 27/08/2017 23:21

Fgs that was supposed to be a Smile not a Wink I am not the owner of the page!!

tootsieglitterballs · 28/08/2017 08:19

I'm on the hunt for something too - I'd like it to say 'the glitter balls Christmas box' instead so it can be used throughout the month.

I'm going to have a gander on etsy tonight.

Rainatnight · 28/08/2017 08:25

This might be a stupid question, but what do you do with a Christmas Eve box?

Topseyt · 28/08/2017 08:29

Not a tradition I have ever had, nor will ever be starting.

Bit like a stocking on Christmas Eve, as I understand. I've only ever heard of them on here.

wobblywonderwoman · 28/08/2017 08:29

rain I think they are little hampers for children given on Christmas eve with PJs and bubble bath and hot chocolate etc

I bought two red and white snowflake sacks - about 40cm so still small enough. Try home bargains in a few weeks.

MrsChopper · 28/08/2017 08:32

Rain my friend has one. She puts in new sets of PJ's, snacks, a dvd and sometimes a game for the family. It gets opened on xmas eve and they all have a cosy night waiting for santa claus Smile

Notreallyarsed · 28/08/2017 08:32

Ours are old shoeboxes (DPs boots, so a decent size), wrapped in Christmas paper with letter stickers spelling out their names on top.

Rain we put pjs, bath stuff, hot chocolate sachet and popcorn in ours with a DVD between them. Tbh it's a handy tool for calming them down on Christmas Eve before bed more than anything else Smile they all know that the boxes mean wind down time.

Afreshstartplease · 28/08/2017 08:34

Watching as want one of these two

4 dc here so needs to be big

Rainatnight · 28/08/2017 08:34

Aw, that sounds lovely. This is my first Christmas as a mum and I'm insanely excited (though DD will have no idea what's going on...). One to file away for later.

Lowdoorinthewal1 · 28/08/2017 08:36

I have a wicker basket that I got in one of these house clearance/ antique type shops which I have tied Christmassy ribbons to.

We have it on 1st Dec so the things in it (Christmas PJs, Christmas films etc) can be used throughout December. Our elf (who does not do tricks) arrives with it.

xyzandabc · 28/08/2017 08:36

I use an old shoe box. It was an adult boot box so quite big. Just wrap it up like a present every year.

ShowOfHands · 28/08/2017 08:41

We've always done it. You'll get accusations of diluting the magic of Christmas or spend spend spend as happens every year so before that starts...

  1. I spend very little on presents full stop. £20-50 per child is IT.
  2. Christmas Eve is my favourite day of the year
  3. Our box costs pence
  4. It doesn't matter a teeny tiny jot wtf other people do with their time and money. If I want to have trained tigers dragging in a solid chest of jewels and caviar on December 24th, I jolly well will.

All that said...

We use a cardboard box filled with torn up newspaper. We put in it...

New PJs (not Christmas ones and bought by my mother)
Hot chocolate
Bubble bath
A new book
A letter from Rufus the Master Elf detailing the children's year from his point of view (he's a funny and grumpy old bugger)
Oats for the reindeer

It's fun and the DC enjoy it.

Bobbybobbins · 28/08/2017 08:43

Lol at the trained tigers!! Grin

AlwaysHangry · 28/08/2017 08:46

Take a look at festive studio I got my daughters from there and it's gorgeous.

Afreshstartplease · 28/08/2017 09:01

Love those boxes on festive studio always What size is it you have and how much does it hold ?

AlwaysHangry · 28/08/2017 09:13

I got the 30x20x15 size and I got all the the treat pack in plus some pyjamas and a small stuffed polar bear! It's a pretty decent size and such good quality. It's now gone back to the North Pole to see if santa thinks she has been good for it to return this year Wink

Afreshstartplease · 28/08/2017 09:14

I have 4 dc. Do you think id need the biggest one?

AlwaysHangry · 28/08/2017 09:30

I would definitely go for the bigger one. It will make your life easier to fit everything in.

BiddyPop · 28/08/2017 11:25

We have a cardboard box that is only a little bigger than a shoebox (was part of a set of 3 gift boxes quite a few years ago!). It holds the Christmas DVDs during the year, and DD's stocking and the smaller books. (We have a large collection of Christmas books, including a number of Mr Men and a Thomas the Tank Engine seasonal specials).

DD knows that I do the box, so no need to hide things in the same way as some others, and I can put things in that are in use up to Christmas Eve but which are part of the Hamper ritual.

Ours holds the stocking, the plastic plate and glass (which are used throughout December but put into the box for Santa's use), family copy of "Twas the night before Christmas", lush bath bombs for DD and I, posh hot choc for all 3 of us (lump of choc on a wooden spoon), DD's festive slipper socks (possibly new if needed), new PJs for DH, DD and I, and DD's snowman covered hot water bottle.

The last couple of years, the PJs have started to come in a bag alongside the box.

The Christmas Candle sits on top of the lid of the box, as we organize lighting that first, saying a family prayer (remembering the good and bad things about the year just gone, and family members not with us whether away or have died), and then open the hamper for DD to lay out the stocking and snack for Santa, then head upstairs for her festive bath and new PJs, before enjoying her hot choc and one of us reading the book in bed.

redexpat · 28/08/2017 19:50

Mines a wicker hamper that was a gift to us one xmas. Keep your eye on charity shops and carboots.

LexyD1986 · 28/08/2017 20:00

I got mine from www.bubblegumowl.com they do two different sizes, we got the big one as it's a family box. They ingravre it with what you want, ours is just a Christmas box with our Family name on it. They also have personalised ball balls
