It can't just be me pinning ideas for Christmas greenery baskets for the front porch? No? I'm alone?

I can't remember how early the poncetastic thread starts!

The 25th of september. Not for ages yet!

VivaJen · 03/08/2017 12:51

I'm looking forward to that one Moo. I've got boards aplenty and I think I might just be making my Christmas cakes and puddings this weekend.

thundernlightning · 03/08/2017 20:43

The 25th of September is so far away! Can we do a pre-ponce thread?

Haudyerwheesht · 03/08/2017 20:49

Yep 25th sept - day after dd's birthday handily enough

Annwithnoe · 04/08/2017 00:52

Another vote for a pre-ponce thread Smile.

VivaJen · 04/08/2017 13:29

Ok let's discuss our ponce prep! I have ordered a Kelly Bronze turkey, I think that's pretty poncey! (pretty pricey too!)

KC225 · 04/08/2017 20:21

I'm thinking my idea of a ponce differs from the board? ponce, please discuss.......

Mychildcouldnotbreaatfeed · 04/08/2017 20:23

Ponce?where I come from ponce means pimp.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/08/2017 21:28

Get yer minds out the gutter Xmas Grin

I am Planning My Ponce as I type !
I have ivy cutting waiting to make a Poncetastic Ivy&Snowdrop Plantar with a Candle in a Jar.

Too early to make my cake though.

thundernlightning · 04/08/2017 23:34

DS (15 months) has become fascinated by pine cones so we've been collecting them and dipping them in white paint for future wreath making. And, of course, planning Crimbo cakes. Usually I make my gran's gastly/great 1950s recipe. This year I'm thinking about doing that (for tradition) and maybe a modern recipe (for ponce.) Recipe suggestions anyone?

Annwithnoe · 05/08/2017 14:44

I'm going to make Christmas pudding next week but have to wait for DH to leave the country as he has pudding issues. Not a huge fan myself to be honest and I'm not sure who will eat it how that my DF has been diagnosed with diabetes, but I feel that I can't pass into my fourth decade without making a traditional pudding at least once, right?
I'm drawn to the idea of making home made vanilla essence gifts but I may have to replace current friends and family with new people who bake from scratch, and appreciate the difference between it and Dr Oetkers flavoured syrup Hmm. I feel I may have fallen in with the wrong crowd.
Seriously though has anyone made this (vanilla beans steeped in vodka)? I don't trust blogs and pretty pictures anymore. Does it really work? Might have to experiment and keep that one a bye for next Christmas which gives ample time for people replacement too

Love the Poncetastic threads! It's early though!

However I started early by buying a Christmas tree. In July. A Balsam Hill pre-lit one. I blame Mumsnet as someone started a thread!

DH was away on business and due to problems with Balsam Hil's website he kept getting fraud alerts through on his phone. So he phoned to aske me what was going on. I had to tell him I was buying a Christmas tree. There was a bit of a silence on the phone. Grin. I have looked at them over the years usually in November but couldn't resist in the sale.

We will have a houseful this year - my sis, BIL, 8 year old niece and nephew who will be 7 months old. And prob my dad. And maybe my MIL.

I love the Poncetastic threads but am a buyer in of ponce rather than a crafter. Will try make something this year though just so I can join in!

thundernlightning · 05/08/2017 15:16

Annewithnoe I've made those homemade vanillas! All you do is bung a half doz vanilla pods in some vodka and leave it alone in a cool, dark place. It's ridiculously easy, and I've never had it not turn out.

Annwithnoe · 05/08/2017 20:34

Thanks thundernlightning great to have a positive review. I definitely want to make some for myself anyway as I spend a fortune on the stuff.
Is it possible to leave it steeping too long do you think? I was thinking of getting started soon?

Annwithnoe · 05/08/2017 20:46

cider I think poncing lies in the attention to detail, the dedication to perfection, and adherence to the central doctrine that tinsel is an abomination but whether you make or buy in is irrelevant.

VivaJen · 05/08/2017 20:51

70 those planters sound lovely, don't forget to post pictures when they are done.

Annwithnoe good luck with the vodka, I'm hoping to make either cranberry gin or vodka this year, bought some bottles in Lakeland today (I know, I know, I should have been scouring charity shops and vintage fairs for pretty bottles in true poncetastic fashion 😀)

CiderwithBuda · 05/08/2017 22:31

Anne with one - I have to confess to tinsel! I bought some and wound some lights through and wound though a garland for a mantelpiece. Very last minute. Worked quite well but I did feel guilty!

CiderwithBuda · 05/08/2017 22:32

Plums. What Poncetastic thing can I do with plums?

Have apples too.

wobblywonderwoman · 05/08/2017 22:41

I don't know if I am skilled enough to be a poncer... But love these threads. I tend to buy of the etsy website but this year I am going to decoupage charger plates for Christmas dinner and I am considering buying a tool to etch into wood to make a decorations for the house .. Hobbycraft sell them. I just need to get a bit of tutoring (YouTube)

NoWordForFluffy · 05/08/2017 22:54

Home made chutney, Cider

Apple compote? Plum and apple chutney?

thundernlightning · 06/08/2017 02:21

Annwithnoe I've never heard of anyone overdoing it. And you really do need a few months for it to be good. I say go for it!

mathanxiety · 06/08/2017 06:06

You can never start too early.

VivaJen · 07/08/2017 16:11

I agree, to have a truly poncetastic Christmas you have to put the hours in and you get far more points for slaving away months in advance to make your own rather than buying. That being said you can still have plenty of ponce points with bought stuff! Grin

2014newme · 07/08/2017 16:14

You can pick up a kelly bronze turkey any time when from most supermarkets, butchers or farm shops, no need to order one in August

VivaJen · 07/08/2017 17:34

Yup, there is no need to order one in August (or even July when I actually did it) but then there is no need to buy gifts in March, book activities in June or plan your menu in September but most of the people on this thread do like to plan and prepare early.
