This seems to be coming around ever so quickly now.

I am also looking at theatre tickets as presents. DH bought me some last year and it was such a nice gift I want to get some for other people (mum and sister mainly).

Cursed child tickets are like gold dust - I tried in May but just couldn't get any then either, despite having a relatively good queue number.

PippaFawcett · 29/05/2017 11:15

Well, my hope of having a newly refurbished house by Christmas has gone as we were hoping to have a builder start this summer but that has fallen through and the next one can't fit us in until 2018 [cry] I have been telling myself all year that it will all be done by Christmas! Sad

flapjackfairy · 29/05/2017 11:52

Never mind Pippa. Time flies by so fast that before you know it you will be looking forward to christmas 2018 with all your renovations done !
I honestly dont know where the time goes!

HandbagCrazy · 29/05/2017 13:32

What work are you having done Pippa? It annoying but as flapjack said, the year will fly by.

I've finished my birthday / baby shower crocheting and am just starting a Christmas present - a rainbow scarf with a cloud at one end and a sun at the other for my niece 🎄

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 29/05/2017 20:11

Aw Handbag that scarf sounds lovely Smile
I've been feeling oddly festive today so I've been looking at new traditions for us to start this year as DS will be a week off 1 year old on Christmas Day. I really want to take him to a panto or show in December but he'll be way too young I think for the big shows near me - has anyone taken a littlie to anything like that and they've actually enjoyed it?!
DH also thinks I've gone mad as while I've been looking at pantos the Christmas episode of the Simpsons has come on the telly and I got really excited Grin

PippaFawcett · 29/05/2017 20:49

Not much work in the scheme of things but finding a builder has been a nightmare, so moving the kitchen, knocking down a wall, getting rid of artex, and the bit I really wanted to do was to get lovely carpets before Christmas so everything is cosy. I LOVE Christmas now I'm an adult and have DC and it is a race against time with the DC and their belief in Father Christmas. As you guys say though, it will be Christmas 2018 before we know it!

TheWoollybacksWife · 29/05/2017 20:55

What county are you in Pippa? If it's Northants/Leics I can recommend two builders.

PippaFawcett · 29/05/2017 21:11

I'm too far from there but thank you.
Think we have found one if we can make the quote work for us, but he can't start until 2018 which is the standard lead in time here Sad

Peppa I hope it goes as planned though I can understand how you feel!

Yes I would say one is too little to
Enjoy a panto. Babysprouts would be bored and cause mayhem

NoWordForFluffy · 30/05/2017 07:45

I took DD to a panto when she was 2.6. It was a shit panto and we were both bored. She refused to sit still and we left just after the interval! I didn't even bother to try last year. I've decided to delegate it to the in laws from now on; it's definitely a grandparent thing to do! 😂

BiddyPop · 30/05/2017 15:10

Woolly that sounds like an excellent package present!! Can I be your DD?? Xmas Grin

Pippa its hard when you have it all planned out and then hit delays - but if you are confident in the builder, it's probably worth getting a better job done later which you can love for lots more Christmases to come! Look on this as a "camping out" Christmas - go mad with kitsch, paper bunting, newspaper snowmen chains on the windows, strings of popcorn on the tree - treat it as a year of temporary madness. And next year, go for the wonderful completed look.

I went out today in sunshine, to walk to the bookshop - I was soaked getting in their door (next street parallel to my office!). But I managed to get a jigsaw for DDad - Haynes image of Apollo 11 lander module. He's really gone into jigsaws again recently - either warplanes and engineering pictures and the like, or big cathedrals and biiiig arty paintings. So I think he will enjoy this one.

I got soaked again coming back - I ended up confusing half the office when they also got back from lunch as I was in a blue dress this morning and had a red top and black trousers this afternoon (my emergency outfit in case I get called down for a meeting with bosses on a day I am less formally dressed - or I get soaked/spill my coffee/get covered in dust from archiving.....).

Did I post last week? I don't think I did. I brought my knitting to Brussels with me as I had checked my suitcase. So I restarted the cardigan for new DNiece/Nephew expected later in the year, and managed a reasonable amount over the 2 evenings - but then forgot that check-in only opens 2 hours before the flight so was at the airport 3.5 hours before it, so I got another hour to work on it before checking in the bag. I must try to get the rib of a front done before my next trip, and see would I get away with my shorter needles in the cabin, or maybe try and buy some bamboo ones in the right size (my bamboos are all larger sizes and I am concentrating on finishing this project for now).

Gosh soon we will be in the 100's! v exciting!

Anyone have any good ideas for father's day gifts? My own DF has the cheek to be born mid-june so I struggle getting 2 gifts for him in one month! and FIL is also tricky to buy for!

So far DF is getting some dark chocolate and ginger puddles and truffles from hotel chocolate, and nothing else!

I have diddly squat for FIL either!

PippaFawcett · 31/05/2017 14:12

Biddy, that is a great idea! Perhaps this is the year to let the DC go mad with glitter!

I love how we can reference summer and Christmas in one post!

SideOrderofSprouts · 01/06/2017 09:10

Of course! It's a skill Xmas Grin

OP posts:
BiddyPop · 01/06/2017 10:35

Oooh Sprouts I like your thinking [summerhat] Xmas Grin

(Meh - that probably won't work - my thinking is a sombrero type big floppy hat beside the Santa hat! Grin )

Not a lot of Christmas going on this week - we are replacing the bookcases and drinks cabinet in the sitting room with a built-in unit. So all the books have to go upstairs temporarily (DH is muttering about needing to reinforce that floor!) and drinks/glasses to the kitchen table for a couple of nights (what will the neighbours think when they see the stash!), but it should be lovely and sleek by next weekend. And DH is making me get rid of a load of books, so more culling needs to be done.....

But the good news is that there will be a nice shelf space for candles for Christmas and for putting cards. And there will be LOTS more floor space for the tree as the tv unit is disappearing altogether!!

Well, DD's birthday has been and gone which means it's the second half of the year. The half that has Christmas in it!

I was feeling a bit sad yesterday actually - she's 20 now and her birthday was far more subdued than even last year, she wasn't excited for it for the first time or anything. She adores Christmas and usually starts looking forward to it from August but I'm thinking this might be the year that changes. She's an only child so when that excitement finally goes, that's it 😢 I shall just have to school her in the ways of adult festive anticipation!

I got a two-day free Readly pass yesterday and have had a lovely morning perusing all the back issues of the Christmas editions of magazines. When you read them back to back though you realise how little the format changes year to year - Good Housekeeping was essentially exactly the same two years running! Still, made for a lovely morning with a coffee and a huge slice of birthday cake. Lots of recipes and ideas I've made notes of, and lots of lovely photos of Christmas trees and decorations 🎄

VivaJen · 02/06/2017 11:14

QuimJonUn I love Readly for that! If you change the settings to include American and Canadian magazines you can get some Christmas magazines from there (I love American Christmas decorations).

AnyFarrahFowler · 02/06/2017 14:31

DS & I are watching Arthur Christmas Grin
As you were.

flapjackfairy · 02/06/2017 17:21

Oh quim i feel your pain. My 17 yr old dd has got first boyfriend and no longer wants to hang out with her old mum.
This growing up business is pants !
And Any i love that film and you have made me hanker for a good old christmas film now. Dh out tonight so might indulge and defrost a mince pie for good measure. You have to take your little pleasures when you can !

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 02/06/2017 17:48

Thanks Sprouts and Fluffy, I think we'll give the panto a miss this year then Grin
V exciting that advent is only 6 months away!!
Quim I have loved Christmas as an adult a lot more than I did as a child so hopefully your DD does the same Smile
I've bought a few presents for the box today; a book for DS that I found for a quarter of the normal price (I've been admiring it for a while), a book for my sister and a new wallet for DH. There's something so satisfying about storing them away! Grin

RuggerHug · 02/06/2017 19:25

My people!!!Grin the Christmas candles and ribbon arrived today, I feel I'm properly getting organised since 'the box o'stuff' is forming. Smile
