Easter is just Easter. We just get eggs. Trying to get the garden sorted for summer at the moment

Paw my DDs are both April babies (as I'm I). My lovely DD2 turns 18 just after Easter. Now that's truly frightening GrinShockGrin

It's a lovely time of year to have a baby. The sun is usually trying to make an appearance, the nights are lighter and everything smells fresher. By the time summer comes around your baby will have filled out and will look utterly scrumptious with chubby arms and legs in little short leg bodysuits. Plus you can relax after the birth and help eat all the chocolate to keep your strength up Grin

Notanotherpawpatrol · 03/03/2017 12:57

Sprouts We don't usually do anything massive for Easter, just eggs, but if I cancel it and pretend it isn't happening the baby won't arrive. That's how it works right?! Grin
That's a very good point wooly, I'll need to eat all the chocolate...Just to help milk production of course Wink

295 days to go now I'm depressed!!
There is nothing to easter no excitement, no tinsel, no running round buying presents and wrapping them. I am Mrs.Christmas always have been. I have all my fairy lights round the house downstairs over mirrors and entwined in decorative twigs which I turn on every evening because they make me happy! A little bit of Christmas all year round!
I think I get SAD when the lighter evenings start to come in I am a lover of the darker evenings because Christmas is coming. When we reach the longest day in June I am on countdown to the darker evenings!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/03/2017 10:33

Ooh I like Easter, I decorate (not so much as when the DC were little though)

I have a wreath for the door (I need a new one though) a willow hoop with little eggs glued on.

Nice tablecover (mine is sage green paisley)

I bought some Easter bags (£ Shop) for their eggs - they don't have egg hunts in the garden now but I do make them wear Rabbit Ears Xmas Grin

I like marzipan, almond, lemon (and chocolate) so the HotCross Buns with lemon curd and lemon drizzle cake.
nice excuse to do a proper sit-at-the-table meal (DS hates this , having to spend his precious time with us Grin )

the long weekend

getting out in the garden to tidy up if its nice enough.

Easter this year is the 16th April so not way too early like some years

flapjackfairy · 04/03/2017 14:01

Oh kissme you must be my soul mate, i always have my christmas candles and lights on every evening and detest the light nights.
I am overjoyed to see the nights drawing in again and yes the longest day is celebrated as the half way point and i start to go into proper xmas build up again.
Are we a bit mad ??

HungryHorace · 04/03/2017 16:13

Strictly is the start of Christmas for me. Longer nights and more snuggling on the sofa of an evening!

I try to include some of things I love about Christmas into Easter, so we have a special family lunch with everyone at the table and nice starters and pudding plus seasonal food such as simnel cake and hot cross buns (on Good Friday). I don't decorate but this year I am planning to have a spring theme for accessories so will change throws and cushions and have some scented candles and fresh flowers/plants around.
On a side note can anyone suggest some spring candles? I love m and s mandarin and clove for Christmas but the spring ones all seem to smell of air freshener!

blacksmiths09 · 05/03/2017 10:16

We are still (just) managing to not burn any of our favourite Christmassy candles. We are half-way through redecorating the 3rd room of our house due to the accumulative soot damage over the past few years. Still got one more bedroom then we start on the hall/stairs. I'm really missing my candles.
We went to b+m bargains yesterday and spent about £20 on various Christmassy smelling plugs-ins, wax melts and reed diffusers. We've been trying these since we realised the extent of the damage from Yankee candles when we took down the Xmas decorations.

kissmelittleass · 05/03/2017 11:11

Hi flapjack! love that your the same as me :)
We are on the nice side of mad! I see other people getting happy for spring and summer and I just want to put my Christmas tree up! I honestly don't like the long lighter evenings and yet everyone else is raving how great it is that the evenings are getting longer. Do you know what I can't bear, its when we get to May June time and its basically bright at 10pm! Now that is just not right in my book!!
I have been like that since a kid and have never changed I always say even if I live to be a 100 I will be up on a chair putting my fairy on top of the tree!!
I love the fairy lights round the house and put them on as soon as its dusk I am always on the look out for anything with lights or any glittery sparkley things!!

flapjackfairy · 05/03/2017 15:38

I think we were twins seperated at birth Kissme
I totally get it . I would love dark nights all year long!
Even worse in my opinion are the light mornings ,I dont want to be woken at 4.30 by the sun blazing in through my curtains. Roll on autumn is what i say !!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/03/2017 17:50

Constantly , I'm a Yankee Candle fan ( people either love'em or hate 'em)

I've tried the Easter themed ones (Bunny Cake, Jelly Beans, Celebrate) but I'm not keen on florals anyway. (Except Sweet Pea)

For Easter, I go Lemon Xmas Grin there are tons of Lemon scented ones

I try and get the big jars from QVC if they have offers or there's the Yankee Stores (Bluewater has one)

73kittycat73 · 05/03/2017 18:33

Strictly is the start of Christmas for me.

Same here, it's the first 'sign' for me too. I do like a bit of Christmas in July too. Smile

Hi, I know you were replying to Flapjack, but I could have wrote your post too! I've always loved rain and dark nights. (Both together=bliss. Grin ) I don't hate Summer like I used to but my favourite season is Winter. Smile

73kittycat73 · 05/03/2017 18:42

Don't know why bold didn't work there, sorry about that. Confused

ConstantlyCooking · 05/03/2017 22:40

Thanks 70. I will investigate lemon scents..

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/03/2017 22:46

Our "Countdown to Christmas" used to be "Merlin" then "Dr Who"
Then Merlin was replaced by Atlantis (remember that )

Then Dr Who was only a few episodes and DS didn't like Peter Capaldi so we didn't all watch it together .

I love it when we get to 100 Days, the final 3 months .
Autumn, the DC going back to school, Hallowe'en, Guy Fawkes, DS Birthday all leading up.

Last year we went away in late October (Tenerife) I was meh but once we got there , it was really god , and they had Christmas decorations up in October Xmas Grin in the shopping centre across the road. Tree, Lights, Father Christmas the full works.

We got back in time for Hallowe'en so got the decorations up for that.

SideOrderofSprouts · 05/03/2017 22:49

My countdown starts in September. Back to school. Then babychips birthday. Then harvest festival. Halloweeen. Bonfire. My birthday. Then its all go 😍

Definitely Easter excitement here!
I have loads of Easter decorations! No tinsel but.....a little tree for eggs, stuff to hang from ceiling, loads of cute bunnies and stuff to put out.

I also got a shed load of Disney Infinity characters for xmas, so held a load back for Easter egg hunt. DD9 will probably also get a lego game for the x box and dd 4 will probably get belle dress up dress. And far less chocs than usual....I also play JC superstar the musical non stop Blush Grin.

However am also super excited about xmas this year as we have booked Lapland UK [shouting with joy] emoticon.

IadoreEfteling · 06/03/2017 11:27

kissme let me know if you find any soft fairy lights for house, they seem to be super bright led ones now, I got gorgeous branch in JL in xmas sale, perfect, turned it on and it had all the warmth and glow of a school strip light, had to take it back.

kissmelittleass · 06/03/2017 11:51

73kittycat..Hi, yes me too I love rain and dark evenings! I much prefer winter weather, I adore snow and hope every year we get a bundle load of it!
I get overwhelmed when I see xmas cards in the shop early, I always stop to look through them. I just love the scenes especially the old xmas scenes of the old xmas houses all lit up with door wreath and snow falling (bliss) and the old street scenes. I just want to magic myself in there :)
This morning as I was passing a guy answered the door to the postman in a long red santa dressing gown!! This made me smile he must love xmas just like me I thought!

Iadore..I have bought some nice fairy lights not too harsh in the bigger stores of Primark in the home section, also have some soft lights from M&S I bought a while back.

HandbagCrazy · 06/03/2017 20:01

Oh I also love the dark evenings - sat in my living room, fairy lights in, fire going and a lovely wintery candle.

For me I start planning in August although I pretend I don't until the last birthday is over on 25th and the start planning properly in September.

I have also developed a habit of going away for a weekend in October / November somewhere lovely and cold (and usually snowy). DH simultaneously loves and hated these trips - loves it that we're away, hates that it means there is then no off-switch for my Christmas mania 😂

Ooh it seems so far away

purplecabbage · 06/03/2017 21:04

I love the dark evenings too, the max potential for cosiness - candles, twinkly lights etc. Dark wintry nights with the wind howling and rain coming down just demand it!!
IT's going to feel quite strange I'm sure in a few weeks when the clocks are adjusted and we vault into light evenings.
Still getting good use from penguin motif flannelette pjs, and the nordic mugs are in daily use.

For the Feb Rudolph day made good use of left over dried cranberries: into the Magimix with desiccated coconut, walnuts (again post Xmas) and dates, blended into chunky pieces then formed wholesome energy balls. Definitely visitor/gift worthy and have noted the combo. Began a v early draft of Christmas family meals - it is as yet too early to call but we may end up this year at SIL on the day itself, in which case we will rerun the day wholly to our tastes on the 26th.

As far as when the Christmassy anticipation starts to build - firstly am loving that peeps can be excited from Solstice day - which I feel to be the start of high summer, and yet, yes indeed the nights do draw in and at this point we are moving defiantly closer.

For me, I am influenced by the cultural cues - the mood that shifts distinctly after Hallowe'en, which is when I give myself permission to go 'full blown', ie start rewatching Nigella, James Martin & co. And writing and rewriting lists in earnest. I think the darkness and onset of cold weather really are a trigger to focus on something bright and hopeful. A midwinter season of feasting and merriment!!

I will enjoy Christmas in July too!! And throughout the year I have no problems watching a themed movie at any time, to connect to the sentiments of the season.

I start pre-pre preparing in July when I start infusing Christmas vodkas. Grin
