And for how many adults/kids?

Get a shock every time at the checkout and think - is this the norm?!?!

I wrote a budget. It came to £118, but I was using Morrisons pricing and will be getting a lot of it in Aldi, so it will probably be a bit less. 2 adults, 2 children. It doesn't include Christmas cake, which I made ages ago, which probably cost around £10-15 in ingredients.

littlefirtree · 22/12/2016 23:11

£225 with alcohol all finished.

Itsmummydear · 22/12/2016 23:22

My shop sounds normal and along the lines of most OPs...

Main shop for 8 adults 1 child and one baby was £288 including alcohol but myself and 3 others don't drink, that includes a big part of our weekly shop for two weeks will just need to get fresh veg, fruit, bread, milk etc

Although, as a family we share the load so Sis is getting the Turkey, Brother doing his "famous" gravy, Aunty the potatoes and veg and my job is dessert buffet... it's our tradition and the kitchen is a lot of fun on xmas day haha...

The things I've frittered away money on (but it's Christmas of you can't do it now when can you!!) are party accessories like table cloths, napkins, games, photo props, bunting etc

Really excited this year and have gone to a lot of effort to make it really festive as it's my first - DDs 1st Christmas - one for the memory box for sure...

Have a lovely xmas everyone!

Spent £140 today, turkey still to buy at about £50. We're hosting, 7 adults and one toddler on Christmas day. Bought virtually no alcohol though as we barely drink and there's some in the house for family who do.

Itsmummydear · 22/12/2016 23:46

Inn intrigued at the shopping items list for the people on here who seem to be managing the festive period on a tighter budget - I'd love to know how is done!!

£80 tesco, £65 Aldi, dinner for 16 people, plus Boxing Day dinner for 6, and lots of snacks, cheese, pate etc. will do a booze run tomorrow but not going mad as guests are bringing a bottle and I already have quite a few bottles of wine that I've been given as gifts.

Emochild · 23/12/2016 01:28

£70 in aldi today and £30 in asda

That's for 3 of us for a week -although dd2 has already started on the Pringles so it may not last

ChristmasEvePJs · 23/12/2016 01:35

Just home from 24hr tesco!
We are hosting 18 on Christmas day.

Got the alcohol this afternoon in Sainsburys, gin, whiskey, port, champagne x 2, wine x 8 and mixers = £203 Xmas Blush

I was £187 in Tesco but that included nibbles and a few basics for the coming days.

Have the meat to collect on Christmas Eve, order will be in the region of £140/15o so over £500 all in but a slap up meal including alcohol for under £30 a head isn't too bad really (the alcohol will last a lot longer than one day!!! )

CakeNinja · 23/12/2016 02:08

£232 at the butchers (whole fillet of beef, whole rolled sirloin, 24 short ribs, sausages and bacon).
Dp is off to the supermarket tomorrow, probably another £300 with all the veg, cheeseboard for evening buffet, booze etc.
There will be 16 of us on the day, 11 adults (4 non drinkers) and 5dc.

Bobsmum02 · 23/12/2016 02:20

So far I've spent:

£50 in Iceland
£100 on a tesco shop coming tomorrow
£50 in Costco on Turkey and cake

Still need to buy beef and alcohol tomorrow and now I'm wide awake going through my have I forgotten anything scenarios!!

TheScottishPlay · 23/12/2016 10:05

There's only the three of us (DH, DS and me) for Christmas Dinner this year. We're hosting a family afternoon tea tomorrow though. I'm finishing off my list just now before heading to Sainsbury. I think around about £150 for our shop.
It's getting stormy here now. We had no electricity on Christmas Eve last year for 8 hours. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Saladd0dger · 23/12/2016 10:08

£200 in Asda. That's also our weekly shop in there including nappies and a tin of baby milk. Only 4 of us (2 adults) so only £15 on booze.

P1nkP0ppy · 23/12/2016 10:14

Roughly £65 because we're going to SiL on Christmas Day and hoping that the two of us will go to the beach on Boxing Day with a 'posh' picnic.

We're having a second Christmas Day on New Years Eve when DD gets back from working abroad for the past 3 months. I'm planning a really nice vegetarian meal with all the trimmings.

Itsmummydear · 23/12/2016 11:54

Frazzled 74 how have you managed to feed so many on your budget? Is it a case of cooking everything from scratch and have you bought sweet things and cakes etc too?

RemusLupinsChristmasMovie · 23/12/2016 13:24

Just done ours. We spent Nectar points and the money from the whisky jar and only had to pay £7 on top of that (which was my bottle of Prosecco!). Have bought other wine, whisky, pop, mince pies and stollen in addition, from other shops. So, about £25 if not counting the £27 in the whisky jar, and about £50ish if counting it!

Neverpeelmushrooms · 23/12/2016 13:53

It is approaching £500 all in. That is for 11 (8 adults, 3 kids). All meals from yesterday til the 29th. I don't think that's bad for a weeks worth for 11

ILikeyourHairyHands · 23/12/2016 16:09

Umm, £500 at Waitrose, £350 at Booths and about £150 at Aldi.

Just the four of us for Christmas day, but lots of socialising between then and New Year.

And plenty of expensive booze, side of smoked salmon, caviar, seafood, giant ham and pork pie, cheese, chocolates, cake...it adds up. And I LOVE food!

frazzled74 · 24/12/2016 00:47

Tescos shop was Turkey, pork and gammon, plus all the veg , and Christmas pudding, I did have a voucher for £8 off, then got loads from Aldi for £65, crisps, biscuits, olives, Yule log, smoked salmon , salmon en croute, pate , cheese. I'm not doing starters and not doing flash desert, just Christmas pud, but ice cream, Yule log, mince pies available for people that don't like it. I spent £40 on drinks today, mainly Schloer and j20, I already have lots of wine. I will need to shop again on the 29th .

Itsmummydear · 24/12/2016 09:10

I must try Aldi! Shopping with a 10 month old is a quick dash but could be done on a different day... thanks frazzled

neversleepagain · 24/12/2016 09:13

£40 in Tesco
£30 in Aldi
£20 at butchers

Includes all christmassy good for about a week. 2 adults, 2 kids.

neversleepagain · 24/12/2016 09:17

Plus our usual weekly shop on top.

BeastofChristmasIsland · 24/12/2016 10:09

Think we're at about £300-350 so far in M&S, Sainsbury's, Tesco and the local farm shop/butcher/game dealer. 4 adults here for the duration and another 8 coming on Boxing Day, although they'll all be bringing various things with them.

80sMum · 24/12/2016 10:15

I'm not hosting Christmas Day this year, but last year we spent about £300 on food and soft drinks and a further £40 on alcohol. That was for Christmas lunch and supper for 6 adults and 3 small children. I am always shocked by how much it costs. We did of course have some leftovers, but not a huge amount.
