And for how many adults/kids?

Get a shock every time at the checkout and think - is this the norm?!?!

£250-300 I mean. Gravy pouches....though ouch may be a subconscious typo, rather than failing eyesight.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 22/12/2016 09:09

£250-£300 here too. 5 adults and a 4yo. No alcohol included (3/5 dont drink, SiL bringing a couple of bottles of wine for me and her!). That does include bits of our normal shop though plus extra stuff (loo roll, shower gel, cleaning stuff) and will keep us going foodwise for about a week in total (done shop yesterday, will prob last til 27th-28th).

cantfindausername2 · 22/12/2016 09:27

In in Aus, so about $400 which is a full shop plus meat, seafood, prawns, fresh fruit and veggies. Alcohol will be on top of this. This is for 2 adults and 2 kids for 2 days. Obviously the food will last longer.

insan1tyscartching · 22/12/2016 10:20

Well we don't drink alcohol here so it's not too bad.We have £140 in Morrisons vouchers and £75 from the change jar that we put into all year and expect that to cover the Christmas shop.Six adults and one child here.

bimbobaggins · 22/12/2016 11:04

I've spent £120 Asda, £20 Tesco,£ 50 marks and Spencer. The Asda one I also stocked up on toiletries. No alcohol included.

LtGreggs · 22/12/2016 11:16

£300 for 6 adults + 2 kids for 5 days, not incl alcohol or cheeseboard. Out of interest, I've just checked my £-per-person-per-day and it's 1.75 x my usual grocery cost :-)

I do expect some leftovers I guess.

LtGreggs · 22/12/2016 11:18

Also mine included some very 'normal' stuff - toilet roll, cleaning bits, etc!

ifonly4 · 22/12/2016 11:22

We spend £45 a week on food and I'll be within this budget this week. I've been buying the odd thing like pickled onions, crackers, stuffing, crisps, orange juice, xmas pudds, salmon which is in freezer over the last few weeks so that helps. I have, however, spent approx £40 on alcohol, so that's extra.

Most of the time there's only three of us, have Mum for one meal, a few friends may pop in so mincepies or snacks will come out then.
We're at BIL's Xmas Day - we're providing xmas pudds, brandy sauce x 2 and taking bottle of wine.

2014newme · 22/12/2016 11:24

£800 for 10 people for 3 days Inc booze. That will also do 5 of us for another 2 days

2014newme · 22/12/2016 11:25

Plus another £250 for party drinks and food

2014newme · 22/12/2016 11:26

Plus 60 nespresso pods

BiddyPop · 22/12/2016 11:34

I have gotten lots of bits and pieces already - €10 on Leonidas choc, maybe another €12 on other choc (we are entertaining), about €15 on GF stuff for a coeliac (biscuits, crackers, cake), €70 on wine, €35 on cheese (we all love a bit of cheese!).

I need to do a shop tomorrow for the cottage, but I don't have to get a turkey (unless I get one tonight and freeze it as I have a half price voucher for local supermarket). I'll probably spend about €100-150 in that shop, as we'll need tea, coffee, biscuits, crisps, fruit, eggs, milks, sausages, and various other bits for 5 days, as well as party bits and the fruit/cream for Christmas Day desert.

And I will put a few quid into a shared case of wine for DPs as a hostess gift for hosting Christmas dinner - jointly from those siblings attending.

Shesinfashion · 22/12/2016 11:34

£350 Asda shop. 4 adults and two kids in Xmas day.

RebelandaStunner · 22/12/2016 11:36

£100 so far. Out Christmas eve. Hosting parents Christmas day and a big party Boxing day. Going today for the rest and will probably spend another £100. Will need to shop next week for basics. DH had six bottles of wine, a bottle of whisky, cake and chocolate from clients so that helps.

StCecilia · 22/12/2016 11:46

Well I have £35 left in my budget! So I'll be raiding my freezer and cupboards and bargain hunting, we already have the turkey. Just 6 of us Christmas Day, I always relish the challenge of what I can achieve on a tight budget Xmas WinkXmas Grin

Wordsaremything · 22/12/2016 11:50

Farmshop £35
Marks £15
For two plus another two for leftovers on boxing day.
Smoked salmon
Roast ham
Pudding.
Gobsnacked at some of the amounts mentioned here!!

Bauble16 · 22/12/2016 11:55

I spent roughly £300. That's for a family of 4.

MadJeffBarn · 22/12/2016 20:49

We have a budget of about £150 for two adults and two kids, and hosting the mil for an afternoon. It's more than we'd spend a month 😂 normally budget shoppers but this is going all out for us!

wobblywonderwoman · 22/12/2016 20:55

We are two adults, two DC and including nappies max 80 or so. I am a teacher and get plenty of wine and luxury foods. I bought a home made cake today for 15 and a bottle of whiskey for twenty but the actual food shop is about 60-80

I shop in aldi first thing Christmas eve every year

BeverleyBrook · 22/12/2016 21:15

Hard to host xmas day for 8 for less than £200 I'd say.

1happyhippie · 22/12/2016 21:22

I'm shopping tomorrow, have a budget of £100 ( really don't want to go over this),
We are having Christmas dinner at my parents this year. I am doing a buffet on Boxing Day for 4 adults and 5 children.
I have a few bits already so I'm really hoping it comes in on budget. I also already have all the drink so that's a bonus!

whensitmyturn · 22/12/2016 21:24

150 in aldi that was for everything for 9 days (2 adults, 2 kids and a toddler), not doing Christmas dinner here though but we do have a buffet on Christmas Eve for 7 adults.

onemouseplace · 22/12/2016 21:33

We are 4 adults and 3 children for 3 days, and then we are 8 adults and 9 children for one day.

I've just finished my Sainsburys order to come tomorrow - £350.

Plus:

Butchers - £85
Earlier boozer order £80

And a few bits and bobs picked up along the way - £20?

That's not actually as bad as I thought given I had a minor heart attack when I saw today's order.

RealHouswifeofBury · 22/12/2016 21:44

£50 M&S
£280 Tesco
£300 Morrison alcohol

4 adults
But more due Boxing Day

DontOpenDeadInside · 22/12/2016 21:45

Admittedly I don't do a turkey (pork and chicken instead) But my Xmas shop, including a week's meals too was about £120. 2 adults, 3 kids plus 1 extra adult for Xmas dinner. Oh we also don't drink, so that brings the cost down.
