3yo twins. They are getting the fire engine and the play house. They do have some patience and other toys coming too. But also have a (crazy) 16mo. And hosting. 😱😱😱😱😱

This is why I stopped buying playmobil.

MissMarplesHat · 15/12/2016 22:41

We pre-built and put in a plastic storage box and wrapped around it.

TigerBreadAddict · 15/12/2016 22:46

The fire engine is the worst for assembly but is a brilliant toy and well worth it

MollyHuaCha · 15/12/2016 22:48

Yes, do it in advance! Have fun...

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 15/12/2016 22:52

My sons pirate galleon took 2 fully grown men 3 hours to put together.

Thanks for the flashback! That's 3 hours of my life I won't get back & it wasn't even for our kids.

fartlek · 15/12/2016 22:53

Oh God. We got Ds the pirate galley when he was 4. DH and I spent 3 hrs of Christmas day assembling it in shifts because our knees and back were so sore. Do it beforehand and save yourself the punishment. Santa can bring it ready-made!

fartlek · 15/12/2016 22:55

Galleon not galley

Only1scoop · 15/12/2016 23:04

Yes get it sorted....dd fairy Castle said 2 hours took us all day Blush

BonjourMinou · 15/12/2016 23:15

Phew I'm pleased my one doesn't need assembly! Thanks.

nooka · 15/12/2016 23:25

My children have grown out of playmobil now, but we have lots of happy memories of Christmas Eve assemblies. Put on a good movie and don't leave it too late. Great toys :)

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 15/12/2016 23:27

I should add there were 4 adults doing DNeph's galleon in pairs in relay over a long afternoon. It was interminable.

justdontevenfuckingstart · 15/12/2016 23:28

We have got oh gd the Ark, never gave any thought to assembly! Oh is a builder. What could possibly go wrong???

Whitelisbon · 15/12/2016 23:30

I spent approx 5 hours on Christmas day a few years ago building the playmobil farm, while cooking dinner and fending off ds1, who was desperate to play with his new toy.
Since then, it has been known as "that twatting farm", and don't get me started on the "fucking bastarding school".

WannaBe · 15/12/2016 23:33

Playmobil is awesome. In fact now that my DS has outgrown it I might have to steal have another baby so I can have some more.

But my eXH was the constructor of the playmobil in our house, and spent hours and hours building it - we had the airport, hospital, fire and police stations, fire engine, ambulance and some police van thing with dogs.

But I would strongly advise putting the smaller bits away for now as A, they could easily be swallowed, and B, their attention to detail has gone slightly over what one might expect and there are millions of them to get lost/spread around the house/step on in bare feet in the middle of the night.

IHeartKingThistle · 15/12/2016 23:35

Everyone always says pre build it but I would strongly suggest that it depends on the child. My DS, even at 3, would not have forgiven me for building it without him.

MadameJosephine · 15/12/2016 23:36

Oh no! I was so pleased with myself for being all wrapped and ready for Christmas. Do I need to unwrap and assemble Noah's ark?

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 15/12/2016 23:41

We have got oh gd the Ark, never gave any thought to assembly! Oh is a builder. What could possibly go wrong???

It's extreme patience and manual dexterity you need (those fiddly fecking stickers), not obvious construction skillz.

celtiethree · 15/12/2016 23:42

Justdont relax the ark def does not need to be pre-built!!! It's one of the easiest ones. For everyone else I don't k ow how you can be bothered. We left everything 'til Christmas Day 😄

justdontevenfuckingstart · 15/12/2016 23:47

Aw good! Assumed it was in a big box cos the animals were all in little plastic cells! Madame hope you got yours half price in Argos. Bloody good buy I think!

Justmuddlingalong · 15/12/2016 23:47

I'll do it! I find Playmobil construction one of the most relaxing things possible.

rightsofwomen · 15/12/2016 23:48

DS2 got the camper van when he was 4. Love it! Not much to put together and that was part of the fun. The following year I got him the farm house which was rather more time consuming but again I didn't pre-build. Reckon Xmas day is one day of the year I do actually have time to do that sort of shit!

justdontevenfuckingstart · 15/12/2016 23:48

thanks celtie

Cagliostro · 16/12/2016 00:26

We always build playmobil. It became a tradition in itself - instructions in one hand, glass of baileys in the other Xmas Grin

A big playmobil set was the main santa gift a few years running and having it unwrapped and set up (with the castle I even put knights in mid battle round it) REALLY had the wow factor on Christmas morning.

This is the first year without any playmobil at all (the kids still play with it but there is just no space for more) which makes me want to cry! I'm not sure it can be Christmas without playmobil!

ophiotaurus · 16/12/2016 00:30

Ugh I remember the galleon it took hours. As did the fire station. So. Many. Stickers.

FixItUpChappie · 16/12/2016 03:32

Im not doing it (stubborn Grin). My 2 are getting a bunch of it this year. The eldest is getting the pirate ship and island, youngest the fire truck and station. I feel the box is part of the excitement and appeal. Maybe I'll enlist some help from the guests....
