I need ideas. I do an annual hamper in which goes a festive dvd. I had bought the polar express but i watched it today to check it out and I just think it would cast doubt in her mind. Which makes me wonder when would be the right time?

Anyway what films are good for a five year old? She's very savy so I'm wanting to avoid wonderings about FC. Have seen Arthur Christmas, Flight of the reindeer and Tom and Jerry along with lots of Mickey Mouse.

Following! I am wondering exactly the same, my 4 year old never shuts up has an enquiring mind so I don't want anything which will lead to awkward questions. I'm avoiding miracle on 34yj st for this reason. I was wondering about Elf or The santa clause but I wonder if some of the themes are too adult.

Good old Raymond Briggs Father Christmas? We love that one here. Definitely no question about him being real there!

ArtyFartyQueen · 08/12/2016 14:05

It's not festive per se but I've got the kids the BFG for Christmas Eve!

MaverickSnoopy · 08/12/2016 14:11

We've already got the snowman and watch that right before bed - it's the law! The festive movie would be for early afternoon but I really would like it to be something festive because it's a bit of a tradition.

My kids loved The Mousehole Cat. It's more wintery than Christmas but excellent. From the 90's I think.

ShowMeTheElf · 08/12/2016 14:16

Muppet Christmas Carol.

Waltermittythesequel · 08/12/2016 14:17

Is she too young for Santa Claus The Movie?

My five year old loves Elf.

MissMarplesHat · 08/12/2016 14:18

Elf
Miracle on 34th Street

Lucked · 08/12/2016 14:23

My almost 5 year old would finds polar ice press too scary. He loves the curious George Christmas film.

OutnumberedByFurchesters · 08/12/2016 14:24

Raymond Briggs - Father Christmas was loved by me since I can remember. The book as well is a treasured favourite. Adds a bit of fun to things to see Father Christmas 'behind the scenes' as well as then going on holiday. It then keeps the magic alive longer too :)

Snowman and the Snowdog as an addition to the traditional Snowman?

atticusclaw2 · 08/12/2016 14:26

We had issues for years because so many of the movies cast doubt which is not good when you have young believers

Mine loved the Buddies movies (talking dogs). There's santa buddies, santa paws and santa paws 2.

atticusclaw2 · 08/12/2016 14:27

Miracle on 34th Street is the ultimate introducing doubt movie - definitely don't go for that!!

Even Elf introduces doubt a little bit (although it is still compulsory viewing for all IMO)

DiscoSloth · 08/12/2016 14:28

Muppets Christmas Carol is tradition in our house on Christmas Eve!

MissMarplesHat · 08/12/2016 14:34

Elf is hilarious, we love it Xmas Grin

Stickman or Gruffallo's child. My 5 yr old loves them both, it helps he knows the books inside out and the animation sticks religiously to the words.

Mehfruittea · 08/12/2016 19:48

Just seen the advert for 'we're going on a bear hunt'. It's on C4 at 7.30pm xmas eve.

roseteapot101 · 08/12/2016 20:05

Mine are quite a bit older, so I may be off, but how about the Nativity films? I absolutely adore Mr Poppy the teaching assistant.

artiface · 08/12/2016 22:31

Not festive per se but magical - My Neighbour Totoro

Mehfruittea · 10/12/2016 16:28

We watched Polar Express today with DS 5, he loved it. Little bit of non believing to start with at the beginning of the film but it comes good in the end.

We also watched The Snowman and Snowdog, loved that too. Only 24 mins long so kept his attention the whole time.

PuellaEstCornelia · 10/12/2016 18:25

The Princess Bride. Nothing to do with Christmas but one of the greatest films ever.

FeckinCrutches · 10/12/2016 18:26

Arthur Christmas! It's so lovely

MummyIsAFreeElf · 11/12/2016 05:01

Muppets Christmas Carol and Nightmare before Christmas are musts in my house. My 5yr old loves them and my 2 year old dances to all the songs.
In the run up we also watch
The Santa Claus movie with Dudley Moore and the flying lollipops 🍭
Disneys a Christmas carol
The Grinch (with Jim Carey) and the grinch who stole Christmas (animated)
Mickey Mouse xmas movies
Beauty and the beast - an enchanted Christmas
Home Alone 1 & 2
We also watch all the Christmas specials released in the build up of children's favourite tv shows
