Which one do you have? Would you recommend it? Do you still use it or is it gathering dust?
Dp has made recent murmurings about one of these, I don't drink coffee and he never really drinks it at home as the cafetière thing is a bastard to wash.
Any wise words? Xmas Smile

I can't choose between a nespresso or a tassimo.
The aeropress looks a bit ugly, sorry Blush I know it wasn't one of my requirements but the other machines do look okay.
It won't be used for hot chocolates or anything other than coffee. And I think I could possibly live with it on the kitchen windowsill.
Thanks so much for all your helpful suggestions and comments, they look as though they're equal on the faulty/leaky front aswell which is making it harder to choose!

We had a Dolce Gusto but the pods didn't excite me much so never really used it a lot. Now have a Tassimo and love it, great choice of pods including the Oreo hot chocolate which tastes amazing! Also doesn't take up a huge amount of space and I love the teal blue colour of mine. You can get them in whatever colour to match your kitchen. Glasses from IKEA ;)

ginauk84 · 06/12/2016 13:25

I didn't think much to the Nespresso pods, as we were looking at the two, Tassimo pods I think have a better choice. Not had a problem with any faults or leaks on mine, have had it a year now.

CakeNinja · 06/12/2016 15:37

Okay, perhaps I'll just plump for a Tassimo. Where shall I get one from? Amazon?

OP posts:
itsbetterthanabox · 06/12/2016 16:22

I love my Tassimo. Had it for 3 years and use it daily.
It's best for us to have a Tassimo as partner likes hot choc, chai latte etc.
But if it was just me who loves coffee I'd go for nespresso as there's way more types of coffee you can have.

CakeNinja · 06/12/2016 16:28

Woaaaaahhh about turn, this will only be used for coffees - so nespresso is the best for just coffee? Dc won't want hot chocolates, I hate coffee and dp doesn't like the fancy lattes or whatnot!

OH has a dolce something or other - it's crap and the pods can be so expensive (compared to making filter coffee, using a cafetière or one of those stove top espresso making thingys). They don't make great coffee either... I've had instant coffee made with frothed milk that is better. I've never been taken by the tassimo/nespresso machines I've used in hotels or at friends houses either, although the pods are definitely more exciting. Sorry I'm not much help - I love moaning about this GrinGrin

goose1964 · 06/12/2016 17:21

I have a dolce gusto, it makes good coffee but the pods are quite expensive if you're on a tight budget

MadgeMak · 06/12/2016 17:23

We have a nespresso, still going strong after 4 years and it gets used at least twice a day.

SunnySomer · 06/12/2016 17:25

My Nespresso has so far lasted 7 years but is sometimes leaking slightly. Used loads and loads. I can't comment on the comment recycling, though I do only use the Nespresso pods because I hate the idea of throwing the plastic alternatives in the bin. There is a massive range of types of coffee, though sometimes I long for the sludgy dirtiness of a cafetière coffee.

deelishiS0 · 06/12/2016 17:26

Depends I had Nespresso but they only do espresso small coffees. I like bug mugs of coffee so I don't use it now. Bought the dolce gusto makes lovely mugs of Americanos

CakeNinja · 06/12/2016 17:27

Okay I'm going with a nespresso. Thankyou!

We have had a Tassimo for two years and use it very regularly.

Although we have occasionally used it for Hot Chocolate it gets used for coffee in the main.

Not sure but I think the Nespresso pods are more expensive

TheChristmasCardy · 06/12/2016 18:37

I would choose one where the pods are easily available.
We used to have a Dolce Gusto one, easy to pick the pods up in the supermarket, you can just buy one box at a time, so don't need lots of storage space.
Now we have a Lavazza one - the pods aren't as widely available, so we have to order online and buy in bulk, or make a special trip to a shop that sells them.
Friend has a nespresso, and I think it is even more of a faff buying the pods, as you have to buy in bulk - no shops locally that sell them.

Ceaser1981 · 06/12/2016 19:49

I have had the style like a coffee shop, didnt like it and gathered dust. Then i bought a nescafe dolce gusto last year and we use it everyday, its good for lattes, hot choc etc, limited to the exact pods but i normally get them 3 for £10 in asda. I only paid 40 in tesco and got 10 worth of voucher to buy pods online. It also does cold drinks too, ice cofffee, peach ice tea and lemon tea. Highly recommend. Mine is the piccolo, not automatic which suits me as i can choose how strong or weak i want it

Frazzled2207 · 06/12/2016 19:50

Re. nespresso, because it's no longer patented there are loads of cheaper pods available, including two brands that are 100% compostible. No recyling required Smile

MrsMillions · 06/12/2016 20:31

We've had our Nespresso machine at least 5 years and it's still working well. We're up north though with lovely water, relatives down south with hard water have had to replace theirs already despite owning for less time (and yes they had descaled regularly).

If you're not near a Nespresso shop they're really efficient at delivering online orders, always next day from what I can recall. You need to order a big box to get free delivery but he'll get through them eventually!

I've not been impressed with third party capsules, it feels like the machine is straining to pierce them. Anyone else found this?

CharliePurple · 06/12/2016 20:34

Another vote for tassimo. We use it daily and you can buy the pods much cheaper on line

galaxygirl45 · 06/12/2016 20:42

I had a Tassimo for 5 years, and it lasted well - I got very bored of the pods though! My dad has had his for about 7 years and is still going strong. I now have a Dolce Gusto and absolutely adore the Cafe au lait pods, around £7 for a 30 pack and it's my morning luxury. They make a good smallish mug, or 2 pods make a big mug. Hate hate hated the Nespresso we had in a NY hotel, I was ready to throw it out of the window after 3 days and it was horribly strong coffee each time......was a huge disappointment. It's worth bulk buying pods online whatever you buy.

PreemptiveSalvageEngineer · 06/12/2016 22:47

Why not try a vacu-press? Takes up no counter space, is way greener than all those pod things. And don't even get me started about the Nestlé corporation....

MadisonAvenue · 06/12/2016 22:57

I had a Philips Senseo, Lidl used to do a coffee pad which was compatible (the Senseo ones are like a round teabag) and one pad made a lovely cup of coffee but they stopped stocking them. I found the Senseo pads too expensive as I only drink coffee and don't like instant. They weren't as strong as the Lidl pads so two were needed per cup and suddenly I was spending a small fortune on coffee each week. I've since replaced it with a filter machine.

Trumpton · 07/12/2016 07:08

We bought the Aeropress on recommadation and it makes a lovely cup of coffee however it is much the same as a cafetière to clean .
Hema do fill your own pods that can be reused 100 times with your own choice of coffee .

Just bought a Nespresso Pixie from Currys. Was a real bargain at £79.99 as it usually retails at £159.99. It is very stylish looking. You can't have it delivered - either buy it in shop or Oder and pay in advance online, then collect www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/household-appliances/small-kitchen-appliances/coffee-machines-and-accessories/coffee-machines/nespresso-by-magimix-pixie-11322-coffee-machine-aluminium-10149301-pdt.html

CakeNinja · 07/12/2016 17:40

That looks like a nice machine cheese, but the water capacity is really small? Or is that quite average? From looking at some of the others, that seems to be at the smaller end I think. Although I guess that's reflected in the price? Hope you like it, I'm still in the undecided camp!

We have a nespresso that is still going strong after 3 years. It is amazing and we use it half a dozen times a day. The nespresso capsules are easy to buy online.
