I need a 'wow' gift for ds9

So he's asked for 3 Pokemon plush toys, he's getting 20! But other than a couple of Xbox and ds games that's all he has. I was going to get him a phone, he would have been over the moon, but I've reconsidered and decided he's too young. He has an iPad etc. Other than gaming he doesn't really have other interests. I'd love to give him something he'd go crazy over but I just can't think. Help please!

Is 20 plush Pokemon not wow enough?

RaveclawZia13 · 05/12/2016 19:29

There are loads of Pokemon cards available in box sets. You can get the first 3 movies in a box set too. If he likes minecraft you can get loads of stuff for that. What sort of games does he like?

DearMrDilkington · 05/12/2016 19:30

What about a knex rollercoaster? They look really cool, should be very impressive for a 9yr old.

Redcliff · 05/12/2016 19:32

How about a trip to insomnia? Me and my 9 year old went this year with a couple of nights in a cheap hotel and a trip to Cadbury world thrown in

OohhThatsMe · 05/12/2016 19:34

I'd try to get him to do something apart from gaming, tbh.

Feckinlego · 05/12/2016 19:35

I'm hoping the 20 toys are wow enough, suppose I'm twitching. He's getting Pokemon cards. Minecraft has been and gone. Knex is a possibility thanks. And I'm away to look up what insomnia is!!

RaveclawZia13 · 05/12/2016 19:39

There is a 3ds game called Yo Kai watch that my partner likes it's similar to Pokemon also inazuma eleven another similar game.

danTDM · 05/12/2016 19:41

Remote controlled helicopter? I got one from Hawkins bazaar for 30 quid, it's pretty wow and huge!

chubbytubbybyebye · 05/12/2016 19:44

What about a drone? You can get them with cameras and take aerial photos.

bigredfireengine · 05/12/2016 19:47

? Segway

Lots of wow but £5000 plus each?

Carneddai · 05/12/2016 19:56

It's a bit sad to think a 9yr old has no other interest except gaming.

How about a bike/scooter/football, or something creative like lego/knex/craft

atticusclaw2 · 05/12/2016 19:58

Table football?
Pool table?

(My DS1 and 2 are sharing a pool table for their main present)

New David wailliams books
Trampoline
Nerf gun

Feckinlego · 05/12/2016 20:09

He has other interests, swimming and karate. He reads a lot too. But when he plays with toys his games always relate to the latest game. These are all great ideas but he has nearly everything suggested. Thanks for taking the time to post.

I was going to suggest table football too.... I'm getting it for ds12/and ds9 to share....massive box and less than £30 from Argos :)

SwedishEdith · 05/12/2016 20:17

What's our budget?

A GoPro camera?

An instant camera?

WankersHacksandThieves · 05/12/2016 20:19

As someone who has 16 and 15 year old boys and who has always overdone Christmas and been happy to do so, may I lend you the benefit of my wisdom?

He asked for 3 pokemon, you've bought 20 which sort of devalues it and devalues his careful choice of the 3 he really wanted - you've then chosen 17 for him.

I think the most memorable thing that would be a total wow, isn't buying something else, it's doing something else. The thing about Pokemon is that "you gotta catch em all".

I'd do a Christmas day treasure trail by hiding them around the house in 2s and 3s with his favourites that he's requested as the end prize. I think a 9 year old fan would love that.

In terms of extra gifts if you still feel you need something else, I'd maybe add a scooter or something for the outdoors (basketball net?) just to give some balance.

I'm sure he'll have a fantastic day and I hope what I've said doesn't come across negative - what you've done is probably exactly what I would have done in the past, I'm just trying to give you the benefit of my hindsight.

NiceFalafels · 05/12/2016 20:23

He'll have more then he wants. He will be happy. No need to buy stuff for the sake if buying stuff

daisydalrymple · 05/12/2016 20:25

Remote control car
Meccano advanced set
Spy stuff (books, glasses, bionic ear etc)
Binoculars

Kirriemuir · 05/12/2016 20:26

Why 20? Why can't you buy him other stuff and stick with the 3 he wanted?

Carrie76 · 05/12/2016 20:32

How about this www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0157Z3I7Y/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1
My nephew's getting it, looks pretty cool

Cindbelly · 05/12/2016 20:35

I think that wow depends on the child. DS is about the same age, and wow presents for him have been:

No fear Quad skates with proper helmet and pads
Nikon camera (from eBay but came in original box looking brand new)
Lego dimensions
Scaletrix

Check out wicked uncle, I've never ordered from them so can't comment on price and delivery but I use them to make my lists every year

Misty9 · 05/12/2016 20:45

I agree with a pp that actually if he's only asked for 3 then there's no need to buy for the sake of it. I'm having similar difficulties with my ds, 5, who only wants one thing but I'm twitching and feel a need to even up his presents with his sisters...but it's unnecessary.

Love the idea of doing something like a hunt with the ones you have :)
