I cant believe we actually left it till xmas eve once and thought - with young dc, it was what you did Hmm hours later - shattered beyond belief....never ever ever again.

I am half wrapped now, broken the back of it Smile

Carneddai · 05/12/2016 21:08

Great tip art wine and wrapping go hand in hand

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/12/2016 21:08

This year I've bought some cylindrical boxes (for clothes etc)
Metal hanging tins for money/gift cards
Little card wallets for earrings

I have tissue and ribbons

I think the stocking gifts will need wrapped though (my DC are teenagers, they had their CEH on the 1st)

YY to the ironing board, tape on a dispenser, good sharp scissors and no interuptions. ( Brew for me though)
Xmas Grin

11mo and wont play in cot.... x

iklboo · 05/12/2016 21:15

We put mulled cider in the slow cooker. Present 1 = beautifully wrapped, present 2 = nicely wrapped, present 10 = looks like the cats have been at it. Do we care? Not by then Grin

Cagliostro · 05/12/2016 21:51

I can't start wrapping yet :( we've got a landlord inspection this week and so don't want to get distracted when there's a few house things left to sort.

I really want to do it - I am really in the mood for it this year. I did most of the present shopping early so we're pretty much done, and I got loads of lovely wrapping paper in the sales really cheap. So I will set to it with ribbon and such. Saturday I will make a start.

TheBriscoesLady · 05/12/2016 22:54

I ADORE wrapping, ADORE it. My favourite part of Christmas! I love the look of co-ordinated wrapping with ribbons, bows and gift dressings. I would definitely be the Rowan Atkinson character from Love Actually.

If anyone lives in Essex, send me your gifts for wrapping Xmas Grin

AcrossthePond55 · 05/12/2016 23:08

I hate wrapping with a passion. I also hate the fact that I put it off until the last minute then lock myself in the bedroom on Xmas Eve with Xmas movies and a bottle of Malbec and wrap like a mad thing.

There's a charity booth in the local mall that does wrapping for a donation, usually $3.00 per item and up depending on size/difficulty the item. I also hate the fact that I'm too cheap to pay for wrapping, even for a good cause.

ginauk84 · 06/12/2016 13:32

I have to start wrapping as soon as the tree goes up as it looks so bare without presents underneath! So I started mine a week ago and have done presents as they have arrived so I am up to date and think I have pretty much finished my shopping :)

SerialReJoiner · 06/12/2016 13:39

So, hang on, if you are wrapping as you go, are you putting them under the tree as well? We always put all pressies out on Christmas eve after the dc are (finally) asleep. Dramatic impact etc etc.

One of the reasons I have never wrapped as I went was lack of storage and the fear of corners and edges of the paper getting creased and wripped. And people spying of course. It is easier to cram unwrapped gifts in a shopping bag under the bed, I think.

Dionysuss · 06/12/2016 13:50

I've done mine. I absolutely hate wrapping. The thought of having to wrap anything else is stopping me from buying anything else. This year I treated myself to a wrist sellotape holder and a decent pair of scissors, making it less unpleasant.

All my presents were hidden in groups depending on the recipient. Each batch was wrapped in a short session.

My wrapping looks terrible, I've never been able to get it right. There's too much excess paper, or gaping gaps. Whereas my sister has hers looking perfect, with matching ribbons and bows, I think fuckit and add more tape.

DeleteOrDecay · 06/12/2016 13:50

No we have ours hidden in a closet in our bedroom and a couple in other places, luckily we have the space. Most of them are for others so will get farmed out to the recipients over the next few weeks.

OvO · 06/12/2016 14:34

I spent 3 bloody hours wrapping stocking presents last night. Eleventy million tiny awkward things. Ran out of sellotape so didn't even get finished.

Fueledwithfairydustandgin · 06/12/2016 14:35

I adore wrapping and have to hold myself off doing it or I feel sad when it's finished Blush did DSs last night. We have people staying on the 17th and my spare room is overrun with presents so need everything wrapped and in boxes by then. I wish I could do other people's shopping and wrapping for them. I'd be in my element

CakeNinja · 06/12/2016 15:46

Serial I put presents under the tree as and when they're wrapped, apart from the Father Christmas ones and any last minute things.
I hate seeing trees with nothing underneath, they look naked!

elQuintoConyo · 06/12/2016 15:59

I twist stocking presents up in tissue paper, no sellotape.

I wrap DS's presents up because he is 5yo. But others' presents go in fabric bags I made, like SerialReJoiner and we use the same bags every year. I also hemmed giant flat pieces of fabric that I use like paper to fold round the gift then tie up with ribbon. Revolutionary Grin

Most things I wrap as I buy, but honestly we don't buy much! Some of my family are in Oz and I post things unwrapped as customs often open random packages around Christmas time and that includes tearing through paper. Same if it's in your suitcase. Extra wrapping for my poor dsis Grin

elQuintoConyo · 06/12/2016 16:01

I don't put things under the tree as they come, never have done. We now have a dog, so i'll leave everything on the dining table and sneak down in the morning to put it under the tree while DS is doing his morning wee Wink

EnidButton · 06/12/2016 16:04

I did mine the last week of November. I really like wrapping and doing all the fancy bits with ribbons and bells etc.

No presents are under the tree until Christmas Day. I don't know anyone who has them out before then tbh but it seems to be normal on here so maybe it's just this part of the country.

I have them in a wardrobe, I cleared out especially, in my dressing room.

SerialReJoiner · 06/12/2016 16:13

I like that idea, Quinto. Much like that Japanese method of wrapping? I've done something similar before with gold shimmery fabric. It warmed my recycler's heart to see my friend's ds using the same fabric as part of his wise man costume a week later. :)

DeleteOrDecay · 06/12/2016 16:20

The reason I don't put presents under the tree before Christmas is because we have an 18month old who would be into them the minute my back is turned. It's already challenging enough trying to keep her away from the tree itself. I'm not convinced I could trust the 4yo to stay away eitherGrin

Arrowfanatic · 06/12/2016 18:28

I just started wrapping today whilst the kids were all at school. I LOVE wrapping and usually myself and DH do it Xmas Eve with plenty of bubbly, but last year he had to work so I started early and good job I did as I ran out of paper. So figured I'd start early, plus I have stuff being taken abroad so that needed doing anyway.

winterisnigh · 06/12/2016 18:51

This year I treated myself to a wrist sellotape holder

winterisnigh · 06/12/2016 18:53

I usually put a few under the tree now ish - just to create some longing and excitement but after 4 years olds current relations with her advent calender - which has 15 doors open and 15 chocs eaten Hmm I think I had better wait till xmas eve.

CakeNinja · 06/12/2016 20:13

I've got one of those wrist dispenser things too, they're a total gamechanger! I have mountains of presents to wrap, I don't even care about the expense, they're amazing.

Blossomdeary · 06/12/2016 20:17

Oh how I love giving gifts, but hate, absolutely hate, wrapping them. That * selotape that splits down its length or I lose the end!
