Smiggle advent calendar

Anyone else with one of these?
Both of ours had broken yoyos in the first day - way to turn a great surprise into tears in in 30 seconds! Neither child managed to get a single spin out of it and they can't be fixed. Cheers, Smiggle

I need to call them back to get a straight answer about the things they said they would replace. I had pointed out to them that they couldn't unilaterally decided to change consumer rights because it was more convenient to them. They were supposed to call me back on Thursday but haven't. Think they are just hoping people will just go away.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 03/12/2016 11:15

They seem to have been offering refunds on return of the calander as well by the way I was offered one. I also like 125 miles away from the nearest shop so they would spend an awful lot of money posting items individually. Maybe I should let them do that Xmas Grin

elfontheshelfstolemychristmas · 03/12/2016 12:07

My nearest is about 25miles away. Not massively far but far enough that I can't just pop in after work and requires a day out which I just don't have the time for at the moment. I have to say I'm glad I didn't pay full price and certainly won't be a returning customer

CotswoldStrife · 03/12/2016 17:05

Grr! I got a response to my email yesterday which didn't answer a lot of my questions - I'll try again. I had asked if they would replace stuff in a batch rather than take it back in dribs and drabs.

Have also been offered the discount, as if I'd be using them again at the moment. I bought the calendar at a discount with their new-customer-email offer but it was still more expensive than it's worth!

My DD also loves the pencil that was today's gift, so I am unlikely to be able to return the whole calendar much as I'd like to

Cagliostro · 06/12/2016 17:41

Just heard about this, how very annoying :( seemed like such a great idea if it was all scented rubbers and stuff like that rather than broken rubbish

Guitargirl · 07/12/2016 20:25

The DCs are absolutely loving the keyring from yesterday, they have spent all evening asking it ridiculous questions and giggling at the answers.

CotswoldStrife · 09/12/2016 10:14

Our watch isn't working - I am so mad Angry. I am waiting to hear from them via email. I opened the long edge, slid my hand in to prise the cardboard away from the plastic tray (it is glued in a couple of places) and then slid the tray out.

DD likes the stationery aspect, it's the cheap toy tat that is disappointing her. I can't believe I paid out so much money for it, never again. Such a waste.

Floggingmolly · 10/12/2016 11:48

How does the key ring work, Guitargirl??? Ours doesn't do anything, probably broken, surprise surprise...

NameChanger22 · 10/12/2016 11:51

DD kept asking the keyring if her mum is stupid - the key ring kept saying 'the stars say no' - ha ha. I love the keyring.

Guitargirl · 10/12/2016 12:56

flogging - you shake it (whilst asking it a question) and then the answer shows up (in small writing) in a sort of luminous blue colour in the circle on the back. But you need to look at it in good light, I can't see the writing in poor light (feeling my age).

Floggingmolly · 10/12/2016 13:35

Ah, thanks Smile

Muskey · 10/12/2016 13:41

Things haven't changed much I bought a smiggle advent calendar for dd about two years ago. Half of the items either didn't work or were broken.

oompaloompaland · 10/12/2016 13:55

Oh dear - I rather like the advent calendar. Looks like I might be in a minority. I admit that the yoyo was plastic rubbish, but it wasn't broken, and the rest of the presents have been quite good. But there again, I am used to chocolate advent calendars, so maybe I'm simply enjoying the change from those. (And DD was bought it by friends, so we didn't have to fork out for it - that makes a difference too).

changeymcchangeface · 10/12/2016 20:15

Yes oompa , a chocolate calendar is usually £1-2 so for £25+ we're expecting more than just "better than chocolate"!

DeloresDeSyn · 12/12/2016 04:11

Glad to find this- DD opted to have the calendar instead of one of her Christmas presents so it was a really big deal to her that the yo yo broke (and as others have said, that there was a yoyo in there anyway!), and then she got chattering teeth which barely chatter.
We received our replacement toy a couple of days ago, the snake. Today it broke too!
Ideally I want to return the whole thing for a refund, especially if more is going to be broken, but we are on day 12 (Australia) here so I'm not sure whether that's possible.

wheezles · 13/12/2016 23:49

broken yoyo here too, I binned it, annoyed now.

DeloresDeSyn · 22/12/2016 23:20

Thought you all might like to know that Smiggle refunded us for the calendar (we collected all the gifts opened so far together and took the whole thing back), too many other things broke or stopped working and I had had enough.

I had a very nice email from Smiggle asking to send DD something to make up for the disappointment. It hasn't arrived yet so can't report what that is -hopefully not a yoyo-

CotswoldStrife · 27/12/2016 18:48

To update this, I took our watch back to a store today and they exchanged it straight away (they did check it was broken first, which is absolutely fair). I said that the store staff were a lot better than the email contact and they did express the presumably company line that as a company they were disappointed in the quality of the gifts in the calendar this year.

The responses to emails have been slow and completely inappropriate, they clearly didn't read them properly at all Sad

OopsDearyMe · 28/12/2016 03:35

Well it serves you all right for purchasing things from this place, it disgusts me that people purchase these items at the over inflated prices... Idiots and their money as the saying goes!!!

Bleurghghghgh · 28/12/2016 04:53
Hmm
BrickInTheWall · 01/01/2017 23:07

I have just found this thread!!
We had two smiggle calendars in this house and very unimpressed. In particular with the yoyo, chattering teeth and 4 coloured pen. However we were all ill in the lead up to Christmas and didnt really put a lot of thought into this.. DH or the kids have just chucked out the stuff that was broken!
I dont suppose I will get very far with a complaint if I am unable to return the broken things. I have still got the confirmation email when I bought them.
Has anyone had any luck getting replacements or a refund without having to return items? I know its a long shot..
