Oddest thing you've put in a stocking

My children are 3 and 1 and the eldest has some odd present requests this year. He will be getting a box of cocopops in his stocking this year. If it goes down well it will be a staple part of his stocking each year.

Anyone else put / putting weird things in stockings?

A big catering size block of mature cheddar for DS - it was his favourite ever gift and he still talks about it now!

Cocksandrubbers · 15/11/2016 10:57

Haha, I came on to say potato, although it wasn't as a punishment from santa ds asked for oneHmmto feed his pet dinosaur.

Twinkletowedelephant · 15/11/2016 11:06

A plunger....ds really really wanted a specific one ...he's was 6

pantherfootballforever · 15/11/2016 11:07

Sellotape, glue and tippex for all of my DC - carrying on the family tradition started by my mum when she was fed up of never finding sellotape when we were little because we always "borrowed" it and neglected to put it back in the drawer! We all had our own one with our name written in biro on the inside of the roll, and woe betide anyone who was caught using someone else's sellotape!

pantherfootballforever · 15/11/2016 11:09

I have given up on the oranges because only one out of our four DC actually like them! We put in chocolate oranges instead!

pantherfootballforever · 15/11/2016 11:09

Oh and this year DS (11) is getting a shoe horn because he is absolutely desperate for one! Why I do not know!

Mummyshortlegz · 15/11/2016 11:27

I love the inventiveness of the requests :-)

panther is it a specific shoe horn? My ds always wants the one they sell in IKEA!

I put a crocheted hippopotamus in dh's stocking one year. I have got into the habit of making him a knitted or crocheted animal for his stocking each year - he's had a little sheep, a green dinosaur, the hippo, a knitted dachshund (with a deformed paw, because I went wrong and didn't notice in time), and this year if I get it finished and don't just put it on the floor and jump up and down on it in temper he's getting a fluffy polar bear.

Mummyshortlegz · 15/11/2016 13:07

What an awesome sounding menagerie!! I wish I could crochet but my mind just can't handle not having two needles!

Ahh that's lovely, sdtg

My dh always gets something with the Tasmanian Devil on. After all this time I've forgotten quite why Grin

pantherfootballforever · 15/11/2016 13:14

It started after he saw one in a shop and asked what it was - I don't think he cares which one he just thinks it's a cool thing Hmm Will likely get the original one he saw as it was only a couple of quid!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 15/11/2016 13:24

Mummyshortlegz - I taught myself to crochet using YouTube videos - I found that made it easier.

Dd is plasters obsessed I used to put fun ones in . Lucky charms cereal it was about £6 basically sweets for milk yuck but she liked them

Maryann1975 · 15/11/2016 20:58

Dd wanted eyes one year when she was little, so I bought her a pack of Googlie eyes. She was really happy and they sat on her shelf for ages (like months) before I was alllowed to move them to the craft box.

Blu tack is a staple
And a food stuff - giant bottle of tomato ketchup or marshmallow fluff or trail mix depending on the DC.

FeedMeAndTellMeImPretty · 15/11/2016 23:27

Dd got pants when she was 2 - an incentive to potty train as Santa thought she was so grown up. The following year when we got the stockings out again she'd left some worn knickers in there as she presumed that's where knickers went! Not a great surprise for DS who had decided to swap stockings.

Chillywhippet · 15/11/2016 23:50

Boiled egg cooking timer, potatoe peeler

Older DDs had mooncups one year

Birnamwood · 16/11/2016 00:06

A ladder Confused

Toddler ds2 was obsessed with ladders and (for obvious reasons) I couldn't give him a proper ladder so I got him a wooden one you put in a bird cage.

Best. Present. Ever

Mine always get toothbrushes and naff Xmas pants.

Last year they had a jar of marmite and a jar of Nutella, albeit ones with their names on.

FeelingSmurfy · 16/11/2016 00:13

A carrot, sticks, small rocks and 2 sprouts

I was really confused going through and finding sticks (sticking out of the stocking) present, a random carrot, presents, a rock....

My parents couldn't look at each other because they were trying not to laugh! They managed to keep it together until I finished the stocking then said something like "oh we haven't even opened the curtains yet, FeelingSmurfy go and open them" and it had snowed... I didn't connect the two though Grin it was a snowman kit! Quickly put together early hours of the morning before they came up to bed, because they had seen the snow

They still argue over who's idea it was though!

pantherfootballforever · 16/11/2016 09:16

Smurfy that might be the best thing I have ever heard!

Natsku · 16/11/2016 09:26

That's brilliant Smurfy! Great parents!

I like the potato idea, going to have to save that one for when DD is a bit older though as she'd be devastated at it at her age or try to eat it raw

CoffeeChocolateWine · 16/11/2016 09:26

Love the snowman kit...reserving that idea for a white Christmas!

Mummyshortlegz · 16/11/2016 11:32

Snowman kit is brilliant. If we ever get a white Christmas I'll be doing it too. I won't be holding my breath!
