Trills · 14/11/2016 10:45

I have a number of babies/toddlers to buy Christmas presents this year, and I want to get books for them that they probably don't have already.

Assuming that they already have the very hungry caterpillar &co, what would you recommend?

OP posts:
bummymummy77 · 14/11/2016 22:43

Don't know if anyone has mentioned them and not sure if you can get in UK but

Dragons love tacos
Those darn squirrels
Click clack moo cows that type.

And every Oliver Jeffers book.

Sorry Oliver Jeffers very famous.

Owl babies makes a lot of toddlers cry!

bummymummy77 · 14/11/2016 22:52

A lot of these are pretty famous. Grin

Elephant wellyphant

StuntNun · 14/11/2016 22:56

I love The Elephant and the Bad Baby by Elfrida Vipont. An elephant and a toddler team up for a crime spree then everyone gets pancakes.

Misty9 · 14/11/2016 23:11

We love bedtime stories in our house and they have to be about bedtime things to induce sleep!

Anything by debi gliori but especially no matter what, stormy weather, the trouble with dragons. My favourite book for the sentiment is 'I love you little monster'. It brought me to tears the first time I read it:

"It's the only sure way to be happy, the only sure way to be free. Believe in yourself and believe in your dreams and you'll be who you dream you can be".

Also, all the "goodnight" series (digger, pirate, tractor) are still loved by my 2 and 5 year olds.

Goodnight goodnight construction site is dd's current favourite but I think that's quite well known.

I love bedtime books and we need some new ones too :)

QuackDuckQuack · 14/11/2016 23:11

My favourites (and you are targeting the parents) are:

Fox in the Dark
Meet the Parents
Oi Frog!
Dogs don't do Ballet
Giraffes can't dance
Don't let the pigeon drive the bus
Are the dinosaurs dead, dad?
Goldilocks and the three dinosaurs

My toddler loves any Wibbly Pig, Peppa Pig or any lift the flaps book. She particularly likes Rabbit's Nap and this Row Row book

mirokarikovo · 14/11/2016 23:29

Sandra Boynton The going to bed book is lovely and dh and I know it by heartfrom many many readings. It is an ideal last-book-before-lights-out.

Does goodnight moon by Margaret Wise count as famous - it is a must-have

Zagazoo by Quentin Blake is wonderful but will go completely over the head of any baby or toddler. However ours got read it on a regular basis and it very much fits the category of "It's a present for the parents really" - we were given it just before PFB's birth and it was the first book we read aloud the day we got home from the hospital. It helped us to maintain a tenuous grip on sanity when parenthood was getting overwhelming and I highly recommend it.

rewardformissingmojo · 14/11/2016 23:31

Bear snores on. Beautiful language, and the board book we had came with a speaker to make the snoring noises. Much better than it sounds, I promise!

rewardformissingmojo · 14/11/2016 23:33

Dazzling diggers.

I just bought the most lovely book by Julia Donaldson called "The Paper Dolls" - I had personally not heard of it before....just beautiful.

MummyIsAFreeElf · 15/11/2016 04:19

My little ones love Dr Seuss (not common in our circle) the repetition is great and there are loads to choose from. Oh can you say dinosaur, green eggs and ham, the sleep book and fox in socks are big hits with my 5 yr old and have been his favourites from around 2 yrs old
My toddler is a big fan of the dr Seuss flap books

OttoTheOnly · 15/11/2016 04:45

The Giant Jam Sandwich - John Vernon Lord
Dorrie the Witch - a whole series of beautifully illustrated books by Patricia Coombes
Where is the green sheep - Mem Fox (although prob quite famous - was my kids favourite when toddlers)
Anything by Margaret Mahy - she's a NZ author and her books have been enjoyed by all my boys

HungryHorace · 15/11/2016 07:15

Wow Said the Owl is loved in our house.

Also, Ten Little Dinosaurs and Ten Little Pirates are as well.
