Do you use Christmas wrapping paper you still have from last year?

Year after year I buy nice stuff from paper chase or wherever. I still have some left over from last year. I've never reused it before - should / do you always buy new stuff?

if i have enough paper left over i do, although this year i arent as i only had bits left last year

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 13/11/2016 17:21

We cut ours up for paper chains

Trills · 13/11/2016 17:22

I don't even buy specifically Christmas wrapping paper, I just buy silver or gold and use it all year.

Wayfarersonbaby · 13/11/2016 17:40

Of course! I'm only just finishing off a giant 10m roll I bought in the John Lewis sale about 5 years ago that has lasted really well :)

I find adults who are particularly style-oriented might remember what wrapping paper they got last year (my sister does a "theme" for her wrapping each year and she'd probably remember if I wrapped her present in the same paper two years running Grin) I don't think many other people would, though. My parents and grandparents wouldn't even notice. And my preschooler wouldn't remember what her presents were wrapped in either, I'm certain of that. I will still get separate paper for Santa, though, just in case!

BrieAndChilli · 13/11/2016 17:45

I don't reuse the kids santa paper as I choose each year based on thier interests so this year I've got paw patrol, shopkins and Star Wars paper (any left over gets used for birthday presents for kids friends throughout the year, kids have never seemed to notice!!) but all other paper gets reused, I do stick to red/white/silver type paper so it all fits together generally

Fairylea · 13/11/2016 17:58

Generally I use it until it's gone. However one year when dd was much younger she was perplexed and amused that mummy had the same wrapping paper as Father Christmas had used the year before .... (she has a very good memory!) I told her Father Christmas must have made a quick stop off at Tesco on the way.... ! Confused

LuluLovesFruitcakes · 13/11/2016 18:02

I use it until it's gone...but I do try to use different paper for adults and children. You can tell I've forgotten to buy more when the adults end up with Christmas Thomas the Tank paper

I don't wrap the gifts in my sons stocking either.

Hawaiiisalongwayaway · 13/11/2016 18:06

Of course! What a dreadful waste to just throw it away. God who cares if it is the same as last years.

As for throwing away gift bags, makes me want to weep at the landfill and trees Sad.

BusStopBetty · 13/11/2016 18:09

Used until it's gone. With the exception of the shitty, tatty roll of frozen paper I bought at the height of frozen fever which was binned last week.

Leeds2 · 13/11/2016 18:16

I use the roll of paper until it is finished. My environmentally friendly DD has a lot to say on my use of wrapping paper anyway; if she thought I was throwing away unused stuff, I'm not sure I would live to see another day!

If you are going to throw away unopened rolls, please take them to the charity shop.

For a few years now I've purchased paper in the sales & just kept topping up my box (I have a plastic wrapping paper box under the bed) I also go and buy some reduced birthday wrap too becuase it's oneasy of those things that I always bleeding forget to buy and end up rushing last minute.

I've got some cartoon christmas wrapping paper which Ive had for easily 3 christmases. The children I buy for have it every year, there's no way they'd remember the gift so the paper is going to be an even further distant memory.

Use your old paper OP. I also know a lot of people keep the Christmas cards from the previous year and use the fronts as gift tags too!!

yummycake123 · 13/11/2016 19:50

Yes. I use what I have and only buy a new roll when I've ran out.

DramaAlpaca · 13/11/2016 19:53

Of course. Some years I've so much left over from previous Christmases I don't buy any that year.

Suttonmum1 · 13/11/2016 19:56

Top tip. Santa only uses minimally decorated red paper, aka the 'basics' or similar range that most supermarkets sell at 20p a roll. Then his paper cannot be confused with others. I am still using some paper purchased before my 14yo was born.

P1nkP0ppy · 13/11/2016 20:01

Of course I do, doesn't everyone?
Utterly wasteful chucking it out and buying new. I buy mine in the sales after Christmas and this year I've accumulated so much over the past few years I don't need to buy any cards either!

Lovefromhull · 13/11/2016 20:01

Last year's USED paper here sometimes! If it's a lovely big bit with not much tape on it- it gets ironed and reused ☺

Scrumptiousbears · 13/11/2016 20:01

I never bothered but last year I got all the old rolls out and used every last bit. I'm a bit annoyed with myself as this year I'm on maternity leave with no money so could have saved it Envy

PinkSwimGoggles · 13/11/2016 20:03

no. I only buy unthemed ikea paper and use that all year and for any occasion.

IcedVanillaLatte · 13/11/2016 20:07

Hell, my parents have wrapping paper in the paper drawer that goes back to before I was born.

I'm thirty.

It's quite nice - sometimes, if you dig down through enough layers, you'll find a mid-90s square of wrapping paper that's exactly the right size and shape for the thing you're wrapping. Now that's satisfying.

Oblomov16 · 13/11/2016 20:08

Unlucky? Good grief, of course I use all paper until it's used up.

IcedVanillaLatte · 13/11/2016 20:09

There's something nostalgic about unwrapping a present wrapped in the same paper as something you opened when you were 7 😂

TheWoollybacksWife · 13/11/2016 20:26

Like other pps I buy in the January sales. I try to buy at least three different designs (one for each DC). The two oldest are young adults and I try for more sophisticated designs Blushand I go for a Santa themed one for the youngest.

I'll use the left-overs from last year to wrap any adult presents I have this year (older DC paper) and wrap presents for work (preschool) in the leftover paper from my youngest. It seems to work well for me.

woodhill · 13/11/2016 20:37

Will always use up previous years' paper and sometimes buy plain gold/silver paper to gift wrap birthday gifts

Wayfarersonbaby · 13/11/2016 22:23

I also know a lot of people keep the Christmas cards from the previous year and use the fronts as gift tags too!!

One of my favourite childhood Christmas memories/activities ever was the Brownie meeting every year when we were presented with an enormous pile of the previous year's Christmas cards. We got to cut them into shapes with old-fashioned heavy pinking shears, then to hole punch them and attach a piece of string or ribbon. We'd then make them into packs of 10 and sell them for 10p each after each Sunday service in Advent to raise money for charity. I loved doing this so much that when my DD was born I bought a pair of children's craft pinking scissors and started hoarding my cards for the future....

Do children still do this at Brownies or Cubs? They ought to!

lottieandmia · 14/11/2016 02:01

Right, that has made me feel better about using it again then. It really is a shame to waste it.

Fronts of Christmas cards as gift tags....I've been missing a trick or two.
