A little early for Christmas talk? Blush

First year single and in new home with DC and thinking that Christmas might actually be lovely. Christmas Day will be small no in-laws or my family.
(Although Stbxh welcome for as much of the day as he wants)

Will have hot chocolate and watch the snowman and the snowdog Christmas eve.

What are you looking forward to? Do you have lovely Christmas traditions?

From choice I spend Christmas Day alone so it's really just another day -except I eat and drink a lot Grin

No tree, no decorations, no cards festooned on walls - just the best food and drink I can buy - bliss.

Fuckingitup · 11/11/2016 16:09

just the best food and drink I can buy

Sounds good. Many years ago my flatmate and I had a pyjama day Xmas day with duvets in front of TV with lots of fancy nibbles. Was bliss.

I've just skimmed through some of the Christmas threads. There are some serious Xmas fans around! Grin

DC now 10 so probably the last Christmas we can reasonably expect Father Christmas to put in an appearance. So we're going all out this year (after a very quiet time last year) - lots of presents, just immediate family, lots of food, and lots and lots of TV. And a DH at home, rather than him working all hours. Heaven.

Rumtopf · 11/11/2016 18:01

I'm looking forward to it this year so much!
I'm not quite sure why, I just am. We have a big friend's dinner on the 10th, a large family lunch out on the 11th, theatre tickets are booked for Xmas eve, my parents are coming for a lovely cosy lunch on Xmas day and then my sil and her big family are coming on Boxing Day evening for 2 days! So, so looking forward to spending some time with my favourite people.

GloGirl · 11/11/2016 18:06

Always sprayed our Christmas tree liberally with Pet away spray from Pets at Home, then only let them have access to it for first 5 days when we are also in room. Hissing clapping and shouting if they so much as raise a paw to it. Worked with our cat and puppies. They are pretty good learners. May as well start now - cat will be with you for years!

goose1964 · 11/11/2016 21:39

Introducing my son in law to a proper Christmas, his family don't really make an effort

catinbooots · 12/11/2016 01:40

I'm just looking forward to all of it!

I haven't had Christmas with my family for the last two years - so I really want to make this one extra special

Cagliostro · 12/11/2016 01:53

I'm a bit sad that we won't be at my parents' like the last few years but am quite looking forward to not having to stress about the DCs running about and being excited (mum lives in a flat)

I have enjoyed spending xmas with them lately but still feel to some extent like we are just celebrating round them rather than with them, as they don't really join in with most stuff. So in a way it will be nice to just be us.

On a more fully positive note I'm super excited about the DCs opening their gifts, spending time doing craft and playing games :)

ThisIsReallyNotMyName · 12/11/2016 01:56

Going to Australia for 6-weeks!

Scarzo · 12/11/2016 02:40

We are coming back to the UK for Christmas. I haven't spent Christmas with my mum and dad for 10 years. My dc have never had Christmas with my side of the family. I'm so excited I feel teary just thinking about it!

We had such lovely, big, family Christmas' growing up. It's something I really miss, living os.

I'm also looking forward to the cold, Dark, wintry weather that makes Christmas feel Christmassy Grin

Famalam13 · 12/11/2016 05:58

DS1 will be 10 months so very excited to have our first Christmas with him :) Not at home which is a shame but we will be next year.

AshamedAndDistraught · 12/11/2016 06:16

Looking forward to christmas and having it without worry.
this time laSt year I had just been served a court summons and lost our home. We spent christmas worrying and terrified about court and on new year s eve I actually contemplated ending it all. Life was in turmoil and my children would be better off without me fucking up their lives. It took another four months for it all to be over but it is (was aquitted though my mental health has suffered)

So this year now in a rented home going to try to make it the best ever. Going to be madly decorated there will be lots of twinkly lights christmas films with the kids, nice food and drink, just trying to relax and enjoy everything that i so nearly lost

newmumwithquestions · 12/11/2016 06:32

I'm looking forward to seeing DD's face. She's 2 so it'll be the first one she starts to get. She's already excited but doesn't really know why. She's pointing to pictures of Santa saying its christmas, it's christmas.

TheDowagerCuntess · 12/11/2016 06:33

Christmas Day itself will be pretty low key, but looking forward to the kids' excitement, opening presents, stockings, bubbly and a nice leisurely lunch outside.

I'm most excited about heading 'home' on Boxing day and three weeks off work. Sun, relaxation, beaches, camping and catching up with everyone up there. Can't wait.

JeanGenie23 · 12/11/2016 06:41

I'm looking forward to a few days with my mom and inlaws. We have had a bad year health wise in both my side and my Dhs side of the family so it will be wonderful to sit in cosy jumpers eating endless amounts of chocolate and sipping on baileys Smile

HollyBollyBooBoo · 12/11/2016 06:45

I'm looking forward to two weeks off work. For once in my life I am not going to book an activity every single day, I want a couple of days where DD and I stay in our jimjams, eat crap and watch back to back movies.

Fuckingitup · 12/11/2016 06:50

It's so lovely to read of everyone's happy plans. It really is about more than shopping for everyone.

AshamedAndDistraught I'm glad you are still here and looking forward to Christmas. After a pretty awful year just being here for Christmas with DC makes me happy.

Things I am most looking forward to are:
Both our girls are coming home for Christmas
Two weeks off work
Low carbing will be suspended from Christmas Eve until the New Year so I'll be making the most of that!
A few nights out planned
Watching lots of TVs
Lie ins
I last had prosecco on my birthday in September and won't be drinking again until Christmas so I'm looking forward to that first glass of fizz.

Is it too early to start winding down? Was tempted to type my out of office message on my work computer........you know, just to be organised Grin

OpheIiaBaIIs · 12/11/2016 07:26

This thread is just lovely. Ashamed I'm so happy that this year is so much better for you, I hope you and your DC have the most magical, best Christmas ever Flowers

Fuckingitup · 12/11/2016 07:41

This thread is just lovely

It is isn't it? I thought early on starting this thread was an error for me as it might remind me of what I haven't got. But actually other people's happiness is catching. Smile

Having hubby off work for 2 weeks! My husband is a chef and for as long as we've been together Christmas has been manic for him. Fortunately he has always had xmas day off but that's pretty much it. He changed jobs this year so we get to spend the whole festive period together as a family which is just brilliant. I'm sure he'll end up getting on my nerves though 😂

KC225 · 12/11/2016 10:50

First Christmas in our new house after we moved from UK. Very excited. Mum has already sent over roses, quality Street and hero's. Have a box of crackers too. Doing a Scandi Christmas eve as that's where we moved to and a proper British Christmas day. Can't wait.

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 12/11/2016 11:38

Everything! I just can't wait!!!!

  • It's my turn to have DS for Christmas Day. Last year I was so lonely
  • My DP will most likely join us on Christmas Eve/Christmas morning.
  • My family are flying over for the new year and staying for a few days.
  • My family will meet DPs family (and DP actually) when they fly over too...it's the last part of the jigsaw in getting together.
  • Christmas markets start soon here!
  • Snow
  • Decorating the house and getting the tree with DS for first week of advent, as its my weekend with him then too!!!
  • I have too much holiday, so I have time off for myself this year the week before Christmas, and have booked a boozy lunch with all my friends for my birthday.

Basically I'll be surrounded by loved ones and not stressed. Grin

Haaaaaallelujah!

Fuckingitup · 12/11/2016 12:16

I can hear your excitement lemonpledge Grin

having my kids back and sitting down for dinner with them. As long as South West Trains call off their strike and they are able to get home.
