I had stollen for the first time last year. It was amazing. I can't believe it had passed me by.

I am very excited about it appearing on the shelves again. But are there any that I should try/best places to buy it?

I found sainsburys to be dry, lidl a bit bland.

It's Aldi every time for me, moist and lots of marzipan.

Haggisfish · 30/10/2016 17:17

Aldi-deeeeelicious. Just chomping some now!

PandasRock · 30/10/2016 17:18

Agree with Aldi. It's the best supermarket one.

Ptolemy123 · 30/10/2016 17:22

Booths is amazing!!!

Heirhelp · 30/10/2016 20:55

I think you need to buy them all and do a taste test. Wink

HeadlessHorace · 30/10/2016 20:58

We have Booths' stollen bites in our Christmas food order. I'm looking forward to them!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 30/10/2016 21:08

I had to ban it from the house years ago after I discovered M&S stollen bites. Chomped through two packs without coming up for air Blush.
Don't know if they still do them but I suspect they're too sickly for true connoisseurs.

EssentialHummus · 30/10/2016 21:10

I love Lidl's, with Aldi a close second.

newmumwithquestions · 30/10/2016 21:11

Aldi? Nooooooo. Don't tell me Aldi. We don't have one. And what is Booths - is it a make or a shop?

Lidl abs Booths are joint first for me, definitely the best. M&S is awful, all alcohol to the point you can't taste the marzipan!

JosephineMaynard · 30/10/2016 23:41

The co-op stollen bites were lovely last year, but our local co-op doesn't have any Christmassy cakes (except mince pies) yet. Hoping they'll do them again this year.

BikeRunSki · 30/10/2016 23:44

Booths is a vair, vair naice refined supermarket in the NW which knocks Waitrose into a cocked hat.

RaisingSteam · 30/10/2016 23:45

I think Lidl and Aldi have the advantage on anything German. We've already had a stollen this year from Aldi, it was great.

Undersmile · 30/10/2016 23:49

I find Aldi's stollen to 'alcoholy' tasting. I like Waitrose's best.

Omg I had the Lidl stollen bites last year as recommended on mn. That was an extra few pounds I had to lose in January.

Boobyroof · 31/10/2016 06:46

I've heard people mention stollen before and I had never tried it, so decided to buy mini stollen bites from Lidl yesterday. Oh dear, they are so good I've just eaten some for breakfast Blush

FireflyGirl · 31/10/2016 06:49

Aldi have started doing chocolate covered stollen...

BikeRunSki · 31/10/2016 06:50

newmum go on holiday to the Lake District, there's a big one in Windermere. Right next to the Lakeland flagship store. It domestic naiceness heaven.

Tryanythingonce16 · 31/10/2016 06:54

Costa do a lovely one In a little bag.

Tesco also do a very nice small one in a clear wrapping. I don't think it's their own brand.

ravenmum · 31/10/2016 06:57

You can order original Dresden stollen online if you want to try the real thing Grin though if you like Lidl etc then you probably don't!

youredeadtomesteven · 31/10/2016 07:07

Lidl or Aldi, no questions asked

JosephineMaynard · 31/10/2016 07:17

I got some Kuchenmeister stollen bites from Tesco last week - metallic gold cardboard box with clear wrapping - is that what you mean, Try anything?

I wasn't impressed. Despite a use by date of mid January, they tasted dry and stale.

chattygranny · 31/10/2016 07:18

If you have the time or inclination to make it then Delia Smith's recipe in her Christmas cookbook is sublime. I like to cut a slice off and eat it whilst it's warm. It freezes brilliantly.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 31/10/2016 07:25

I'll skip it this year, haven't been able to find one without palm oil.
