(Christmas) AIBU to not cook chips with Christmas dinner

I've just been asked by one of our potential guests via DH if we'll do chips for the kids. My answers was absolutely 100% not under any circumstances.

Dh said I'm being absolutely unreasonable.

Hell will freeze over before I'll cook fries on Christmas Day.

AIBU?

Yanbu at all!

Chips on a christmas dinner??????

PoldarksBreeches · 01/10/2016 18:41

How many children and who do they belong to?
Tbh I don't see why they can't eat roast potatoes but if they really won't then a tray of oven chips wouldn't kill you.

QuiteLikely5 · 01/10/2016 18:42

I know it's not tradition but will it harm you to put some frozen fries in the oven for twenty mins?

Mybeardeddragonjustdied2016 · 01/10/2016 18:43

Is it because macdonalds will be closed?
So disrespectful!.
You need to be inviting a more upper class guest if this is the case!

Lunar1 · 01/10/2016 18:43

It's grounds for divorce to ask for chips to be served on Christmas Day. Give the daft sods roasties ant call them chunky chips.

Palomb · 01/10/2016 18:44

There's be 5 kids between 8 and 13.

It wouldn't harm me apart from making me want to blow my top when I'm watching them leave my lovingly prepared real food in favour of fucking French fries.

OliviaBenson · 01/10/2016 18:45

Equally it won't harm any kids not to have chips for the day!

Stick to your guns op!

Palomb · 01/10/2016 18:45

It is disrespectful isn't it.

I WILL NOT cook fucking McCain on Christmas Day.

RunnyRattata · 01/10/2016 18:46

Depends on the reason for their request really.

MrsJayy · 01/10/2016 18:47

CHIPS at Christmas CHIPS !!!

FurryDogMother · 01/10/2016 18:47

No. Do not cook chips. That is all. They will survive.

GlitteryFluff · 01/10/2016 18:48

They're old enough to shut up, eat up and be polite.

MrsJayy · 01/10/2016 18:48

Roast potatoes are just the same well better

Lunar1 · 01/10/2016 18:48

Unless there are additional needs there is no need for chips on Christmas Day, what will they want next? Ketchup and turkey dinosaurs. Hmm

Ginmakesitallok · 01/10/2016 18:48

Is there an acceptable reason? ?

ALemonyPea · 01/10/2016 18:49

How bloody rude of them! Stick to your guns.

Aderyn2016 · 01/10/2016 18:49

I would because I want my guests to be happy and if they are eating chips there will be more roasties left over for me

Crystal15 · 01/10/2016 18:49

Chips?! Can't they have extra roasties?

PrincessOnTheInternet · 01/10/2016 18:49

You can't cook chips on Christmas Day - YANBU!

chunkymum1 · 01/10/2016 18:49

I would say that (other than just letting you know of food allergies/vegetarianism etc) asking your host to provide a specific food is rude in the extreme. The only exception would be if the DC have some form of SEN that makes unfamiliar food a problem. Assuming that's not the case stick to your guns- they can have chips when they get home if they're getting withdrawal symptoms.

OSETmum · 01/10/2016 18:50

Hell no, I would not cook chips on Christmas Day! Surely there's enough choice for Christmas dinner that the kids can find something they like? Do they eat chips everyday?

Palomb · 01/10/2016 18:50

They can have roasties, mash or dauphinois.

Chips are not on the menu.

guiltynetter · 01/10/2016 18:51

no no no! I was a horribly fussy child who when it was Christmas dinner usually ended up with a roast potatoes and mash for Christmas dinner but my mum refused to cook anything different. it's only for one day.

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/10/2016 18:52

8-13

Ffs eat what your given

Like hell would I cook chips on Xmas day
What's wrong with roasties

sonlypuppyfat · 01/10/2016 18:53

I can't believe anyone would think it acceptable to eat chips Christmas day, and even more unacceptable to ask someone else to cook them
