(Christmas) AIBU to not cook chips with Christmas dinner

I've just been asked by one of our potential guests via DH if we'll do chips for the kids. My answers was absolutely 100% not under any circumstances.

Dh said I'm being absolutely unreasonable.

Hell will freeze over before I'll cook fries on Christmas Day.

AIBU?

Oven space is generally at a premium on Christmas Day. No way would I be trying to squeeze in a tray of oven chips.

What if they turn up with boxes of micro chips.

CharminglyGawky · 01/10/2016 18:53

Chips on Christmas Day! Shock

Palomb · 01/10/2016 18:54

Dh just raised that because I cook veggie food for some family members I should cook whatever people like. It's hardly the same is it?

I look forward to cooking Christmas dinner all years. I love cooking. As a family we eat oven chips about once a month why would I cook them on Christmas Day? I've told Dh that the answer is NO. He's not at all happy.

No it isnt the same thing bloody chips

MotherOfDragons27 · 01/10/2016 18:57

Tell your DH he can cook them if he's that unhappy about it! No way would I do that either. Stick to your guns OP.

Palomb · 01/10/2016 18:57

I feel a bit bad about it as I love the people
Involved to bits but I cannot and will not do it.

Maybe I'll suggest a pub lunch after Christmas Day and we can all have chips.

I have a fussy mcfussy pants and at 8+ they can suck it up and eat what you're having/cooking for the occasion. Besides they will no doubt fill up on quality streets or crisps anyway. Roasties are giant chips anyway are going they? They can have them.

I'm totally with you for 1 of the 365 days of the year they will survive and if they don't like it sndxardcobsessedvwoth chips they are likely not to fade away 😂 X

PoohBearsHole · 01/10/2016 18:58

Ok don't know what happened there....

Palomb · 01/10/2016 18:59

Dh said he'd cook them. How is that any better? It isn't really about cooking anyway them TBH.

MrsJayy · 01/10/2016 19:00

You are wavering NO CHIPS pub wont sell chips either i dont think

Palomb · 01/10/2016 19:01

I'm not wavering, the answer is absolutely not.

OP posts:
StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 01/10/2016 19:02

Tell him there's no room in the bloody oven.

PoohBearsHole · 01/10/2016 19:02

so not about the cooking if oven space, it's the principle totally. And being a vegetarian is different, you wouldn't cook chips for a vege so why for a non vege but a fusspot? If you enjoy cooking (as you seem to) I would expect you would relish the opportunity for producing a vege option. Or you'd always produce chips!

Doilooklikeatourist · 01/10/2016 19:03

No chips on Christmas Day
They are mad to even ask
No room in the oven at all
They'll be asking for Aunt Bessie's Yorkshires next
( faints )

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 01/10/2016 19:03

Dh can cook them and they will be put on after everything else is out of the oven because there is no room. They will have to start on everything else and have chips later by which time they will be full of roast potatoes

canyou · 01/10/2016 19:06

How do they fit in the oven?
Our oven use is
Pastries in
Pastries out, Turkey in
Turkey out, ham in
Ham out Roasties, veg, stuffing, pigs in blankets , veggie loaf into oven I do cook croquettes for a DN who has ASD/food consistency issues
Above out, serve while pudding/pie bakes
No room for chips

RuskBaby · 01/10/2016 19:06

I don't eat roast potatoes but happy and more than enough with meat, veg, stuffing, pigs in blankets - no way would I contemplate cooking or indeed eating chips.

00100001 · 01/10/2016 19:09

Seeing as DH is cooking chips, tell him he can cook the rest whilst he's at it!

Of course you can have chips for the children on Christmas Day. Just make your own fucking Christmas dinner in your own fucking home.

snakesalive · 01/10/2016 19:14

Ha ha ,that made me laugh...mine try every year to get me to cook pizza...we are all vegan with nut roast to look forward to...I'm drooling already....my answer ,yeah sure....when hell freezes over.

Wayfarersonbaby · 01/10/2016 19:15

No chips! FFS your guests should be delighted that someone is cooking a lovely Christmas dinner for them! I might be inclined to agree if the kids were younger than 6 but at between 8 and 13 they should be able to go to someone's house for lunch and have the good manners to eat at least something they're given without asking for special treatment. It's not like Christmas dinner is either horrible or a limited choice of things to eat.

Stick to your guns, OP - in any case most tweens will have spent all Christmas morning eating chocolate and sweets and might not even eat the chips anyway!

snakesalive · 01/10/2016 19:16

Don't anyone dare say ,pizza is better than a vegan Christmas dinner...I pride myself on a scrumptious Christmas meal...never have any complaints

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/10/2016 19:17

What's your nut roast recipe?

ToffeeForEveryone · 01/10/2016 19:18

I agree it seems ridiculous, but if they've asked ... they know their kids best, it's probably an attempt to keep any fuss to a minimum on the day. I'd probably go back and ask if roasties would do, but if kids will only happily eat chips I would just suck it up and serve them.

To the kids only mind!
