Christmas

Trees. How early is too early? 🤔

It's my ds first xmas this year. I am beyond excited, for the first time ever I've been impatiently waiting for the xmas stock to hit the shelves so I can buy nice stuff for the house.

So! With that in mind, would I be totally mad to have my tree up like......1 Nov? Too early? Grin
I can't be the only sado out there!

1st December here too Smile that seems acceptable to me... full month of Christmas plus extra in January.

My mum is a grinch puts her tree up as late as possible and then takes it down 27th, very it's just another day isn't bothered by it in the slightest and think she only bothers putting a tree up now to keep my brother quiet - personally if she doesn't want one can't see the issue but he is more obbsesed than me and I bloody love Christmas Grin

Having DS by C section on 7 December so ours is going up early this year - just hope there are a few pine needle slept by Twelfth night!

Christmas Eve here. Then it is really really exciting. Whole family go out to buy it and then spend a few hours decorating it.

I just don't get the xmas eve thing, although it would be extra festive I suppose which would be nice. The wee man will be crawling about by then so maybe my November tree is a bit precarious 😜 Can you babyproof Christmas?
And to the commenter further up (if the question was directed at me) not Christian in the slightest, was Wiccan for about 10+ years, now humanist I suppose. But you don't have to be Christian to enjoy the festivities.

Mine goes up mid November and comes down the day after boxing day. I hate having the decorations up when its over and much prefer the build up before hand. Put it up when you want, enjoy your little ones first Christmas!

No earlier than the weekend before Christmas here. Generally dd gets to choose if she wants it up before or after her birthday (Dec 23rd) and she pretty much always wants it up for her birthday.

Mid November here i love it. 🎄🎄 Dd will be 2 this year so will have more idea whats happening but also more likely to pull the tree down/apart!!
We made a corner for the tree with a footstool blocking any access to it...this year we have a new sofa so iv no idea how to keep her out this year 😂

Can you babyproof Christmas?
We put the tree inside a playpen to keep exploring babies/toddlers out. Can also decorate the playpen with nice non-breakable baubles which they're allowed to touch.

Our tree always went up before bonfire night, it's lovely to come back to after the fireworks. Last year I slipped and didn't get it up until 2nd week of December. It threw me all out of whack and I kept thinking Christmas was further away than it was.

I'd put the tree up now if I thought DP would let me! Back to November this year!

It's usually the first weekend in December for us.

My DD's birthday is the 23rd and I am somewhat obsessed with her birthday not being absorbed by Christmas so we have her party at the beginning of December and no Christmas decorations are allowed. Once the party is over then it's Christmas all the way!

We then have a family day out on the 23rd, there is no way to avoid Christmas by then.

I do love Christmas and get quite misty eyed about the memory of being in hospital with a day old DD when carol singers came round the ward on Christmas Eve and sang Silent Night to DD.

Sunday 11th December this year unless we decide on a real tree in which case it'll be the Sunday after.
The cats chew the tree lights so any longer gets stressful keeping them out of that room.

Our tree goes up on 27 November each year. It's become a tradition. Back in 2000 I 'lost' (long story and triggering) my first baby and the first few years after on that day every year I was heartbroken and spent the day crying (and many other days of the year). I got a decoration each year for the tree to remember my baby.
I decided a few years ago that actually we would put the tree up and decorate the house each year in the 27 November as a way of remembering our baby and doing something lovely with our dcs.

I still feel sad obviously but it changes that day from a horrible anniversary to something to look forward to

That's a lovely way of remembering hedgehog Flowers

Real tree (Ikea), usually buy it 1-2nd week in Christmas. Mind, on one occasion when we left it later, they were reduced to £20, making it effectively free (once you factored in the voucher-back).

We have one of those reservoir tree stands - highly recommended for avoiding needle drop!

hedgehog Flowers I second that, a lovely way of remembering.

First Sunday of December in our house. Stays up til twelfth night too. Don't see why people get so het up about Christmas decs going up early.

Op, if you don't want to go the whole hog too early, my friend decorates the house with winter-themed but not neccessary Christmassy decorations from bonfire night onwards - it makes it look very cozy and really signals the turn of the season. Who doesn't like twinkly lights and loveliness in the dark winter months?

DC1 is due at the end of November, DH and I love Christmas so this year the tree and decorations are going up on October 30th so we are ready. Normally we opt for the last weekend of November or first weekend of December depending on plans.

Anytime in November is far too early - you'll be fed up of it before Christmas. A week before Christmas is perfect imo.

Ours goes up on the first Sunday in advent (so 27 November this year) and stays up until Twelfth Night. And no, we don't get sick of it in the slightest! Why not fill the darkest part of the year with light and sparkliness for as long as possible?!

DD has been known to put her own little tree up in her room on the day after bonfire night, which is a little early for me but her room, her choice 😁 We leave a few white fairy lights up around the house all year - nothing like throwing wide open windows surrounded by sparkling lights in the height of summer!

We usually put our tree up on the Sunday before Christmas, so this year that's the 18th. I love Christmas but having the decorations up for even the entirety of Decemeber would weaken the thrill of it all for me.

My tree goes up fairly late, but like the previous poster's friend, I have other decorations. I have autumn decorations which I swap for winter ones at the start of advent, and it gets increasingly Christmassy as December progresses.

Ok, well the tree arrived, and as it was an expensive pre lit tree from America I decided to put it together to check it worked (can only send it within 14 days)...then forgetting what I was doing, I started decorating it..the door goes, my son arrives.."Mum! what are you doing? its October!"...I quickly think up an excuse, place a bin bag over it and say we can keep it hidden until December....

Daughter arrives home from work, clocks this in the corner of the room and later on her Facebook...I see the message with photo as well!!!

Regarding the "Christmas tree before Thanksgiving" meme - Thanksgiving in Canada is the second Monday in October. So that leaves plenty of room to put your tree up ages before Christmas. Grin

"I just don't get the xmas eve thing, although it would be extra festive I suppose which would be nice."
If you're buying a real tree on Christmas Eve a lot of places (in my experience) tend to more or less give them away - which is a huge plus for those people who otherwise might have to stretch their budgets a bit too far. Although you're limited to 'what's left' and sometimes that's not much.
