What's going in the stocking?

So far it's just socks for nearly 3yo dd. I am sure she'll be thrilled Hmm I'll get the traditional chocolate coins and a satsuma but I am really stumped for ideas. Obviously it can't be huge gifts and I don't want to get things that will be discarded before Christmas day is over! What are you putting in your dc's stocking and how old are they?

Mine are having a large stocking and less items but bigger presents under the tree

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 27/09/2016 15:55

I saw some multicoloured bags of chocolate coins in the Co-op the other day, make a nice change from gold ones.

Elizabethtailored · 27/09/2016 18:18

Please could someone tell me where the magic flannels are from as I hunted high and low last year and no joy!

Humidseptember · 27/09/2016 18:32

I have made awful mistake of buying TOO BIG stocking Shock so I am going to have to really bulk it out this year with chocolate orange, tubes of sweet etc..

for older dd 9 - this year will be lots of card games and magic games from Djeco. Perhaps a story CD as well.

Younger is much easier!! any tat really...novelty toys and so on.

Humidseptember · 27/09/2016 18:33

I wrap some things and let others be.

SouthWestmom · 27/09/2016 18:34

So do you do stockings and Father Christmas gifts?

We do stocking with tat and asked for gifts and then presents from us and family later.

IsItGinTimeYet · 27/09/2016 19:19

We do stockings and a main gift from FC. All other gifts under the tree from us and family.

Thanks Bella :) Four months is hard. DS liked ribbons etc at that age (still does). He has one on a stick which I swirl around and he loves. Bubbles are a big hit too and at that age he loved Lamaze toys. Some little socks?

Famalam13 · 27/09/2016 19:28

Ooh and black and white books?

BellaGoth · 27/09/2016 19:44

Elizabeth most supermarkets sell magic flannels, usually with soap rather than regular flannels though. Boots and wilkos have them on their websites.

Thanks fam, great ideas!

THANK GOD FOR THIS THREAD.

Equimum · 27/09/2016 20:13

DS1(nearly 4) is getting: a train for his wooden railway, a Playmobil person, 3 X Schleich animals, hot wheels car, slinky, giant magnet, magnifying glass, touchable bubbles, toothbrush timer, chocolate coins, a Paw Patrol character.

DS2 (16m) is getting (so far): magnetic cars, ELC clicky toy, pull-back Thomas, spunning light toy, light-up bath toy, Schleich elephant, bath mirror, nursery rhyme CD, choc coins, Playmobil 1.2.3 helicoptor.

StillRunningWithScissors · 27/09/2016 20:41

Brilliant thread. I had no idea what to get DC, then thanks to this thread remembered we have a Tiger store locally. Checked their web site... Think I've sorted the whole stocking now :-)

maamalady · 27/09/2016 21:54

Some great ideas here, thanks everyone! Today I have bought an Oball (see pic) and a cuddly rabbit for DD2 (will be 9 months), and some hair clips for DD1 (will be 2 and a half). Also some dinosaur bath squirters that they can have two each of.

What's going in the stocking?
ArriettyMatilda · 28/09/2016 00:41

I've really enjoyed reading everyone's ideas here. I think dd will be getting a character toothbrush, hair clips/bands (as we are always losing them), dvd, torch, magnifying glass and possibly some schleich animals if I can face starting another collection of a certain type of toy. I might get her a car or a train too. Part of me can't help but feel she has enough toys and really doesn't need anymore for at least another whole year. Luckily her stocking isn't huge and I may bulk it out with craft stuff and useful things.

Elizabethtailored I found magic flannels in the large pharmacy in my town last year. Dd was distinctly underwhelmed when we made it grow. However she does really like that it has the gruffalo on it. I may just buy a novelty bath mit or a character flannel.

Famalam13 dd was one for her first Christmas and I remember putting in shakers, a penguin cuddly toy and a light up ball. There was definitely more but I've forgotten!

I will be wrapping them, it's half of the fun! We have been doing a stocking and one slightly larger present from Father Christmas. And then she's still had a mountain of presents from us. I think I will try to rein it in this year as she will be three and so more likely to remember. I don't want to set unrealistic expectations and we can't fit anymore junk in out flat

Equimum your stocking for your eldest sounds perfect for my DS. Any chance you could just make 2? Wink

JasperDamerel · 28/09/2016 09:07

We actually reuse stuff that's already in the house, so some things in our stockings are the same every year. Every year the kazoos and Swanee whistles from the music box get wrapped up and appear in stockings for a game of Swanee kazoo, and so a set of finger puppets which we use to improvise a puppet show in bed on Christmas morning.

WiltingTulip · 28/09/2016 09:36

Could someone please give a link for the tiger shop so many people have bought from??? Thanks!

JasperDamerel · 28/09/2016 11:48

They don't sell online,alas.

My mum always brings stuff from her local Tiger when she comes to visit.
uk.flyingtiger.com/en-gb/about

They have changed their name to Flying Tiger.

WiltingTulip · 29/09/2016 06:48

Oh thanks for that!!

AlwaysNeverOnTime · 30/09/2016 07:27

DS is 3, DD is 5. Mine always get

Character socks
Character pants
Kinder egg
Big chocolate coin from Starbucks (don't know how this one started Grin)
Fruit shoot
Small cuddy toy
Character cutlery
And then a few small toys each.

I love doing the stockings.

Goldenhandshake · 30/09/2016 13:24

The Works and Tiger are both brilliant for stocking fillers, poundshop usually have a few gems too.

NotCitrus · 30/09/2016 13:51

My kids got given absolutely beautiful but huge named stockings. Which of course they love and want filled.

Foam swords, umbrellas, and boxes of Star Wars/Frozen cereal fit the bill. Maybe a huge bubble blower for dd. A requested cuddly animal so ds and dd will play adorably together for a bit. And a set of Lego or similar in the hope that ds will go assemble it and let me have a lie-in...
