What's going in the stocking?

So far it's just socks for nearly 3yo dd. I am sure she'll be thrilled Hmm I'll get the traditional chocolate coins and a satsuma but I am really stumped for ideas. Obviously it can't be huge gifts and I don't want to get things that will be discarded before Christmas day is over! What are you putting in your dc's stocking and how old are they?

I have DD 2 and 4 and they get similar things.

Chocolate coins, a wind up toy (we all get one so we can race them), a glowing butterfly ring, a bath toy, bubble bath, socks, a small jelly cat toy, top trumps, pens or crayons and something that only Santa would bring. All year I'll say NO to one thing, gross sweets or a silly toy, just so they have something they know I would never buy Grin

I still do stockings for teen DC's. Well, more small sacks tbh.

Teen DS will get a choc orange, tube of smarties and a random american sweetie. Boxers and socks. Deodorant, bath stuff and a toothbrush. Stationary and a book. A starbucks voucher. USB stick. Wallet. T-shirt.

Teen DD will get the same sweets, undies and fun socks/tights. Bath stuff, toothbrush and EOS lipbalm. Stationary and a book. A starbucks voucher. Acessorize earrings, necklace and bracelets. Small purse.

I love stockings, we all get one from FC and everyone piles into our bed to open them Xmas Smile.

Teen DD so far has some heart shapes jellybeans, two cans of Impulse, guitar picks and some Popbands (a cross between a hair bobble and a wristband). I'll probably get some nice pencil crayons and chocolate coins.

Mish, I do a stocking for my 13yo dd. Last year, she had a cd, gel pens and fine liners, colouring in postcards, unicorn rainbow tape dispenser, perfume, hotel Chocolat penguins (her favourite animal!), a hot water bottle, some lush bathbombs and a few other lush things, cinema voucher, erm, can't remember what else now but loads of good small things around.
Haven't started this years yet, but will be some similar things again!

I make stockings for everyone in my household. Also for my 36 year old little sister. I've been doing her stocking since she went to university and our parents stopped making them for her.

Just wondering - do you all gift wrap presents in stockings? I normally do but this year we will be away and going through airport security so considering not wrapping them.

Just a second vote for Tiger! I've done 99% of ds (6) stocking in there in the last few weeks for under £25 and got him loads of stuff that's really fun and not just cheap tat! I've only just discovered it and it's my new favourite place Grin

Have also bought various 2nd hand books and dvds from Amazon in almost new condition. Most cost just a penny, although I did have to pay postage. I'll also buy 2nd hand games for her nintendo ds. Can be purchased for as little as £2.50 including postage from Amazon and Ebay. All linked items above were bought on Amazon deals and far cheaper than they are priced today.

DD is nearly 4 and will be getting (I think):

  • unicorn pencil with glittery rubber on the top (£1, Hawkin's)
  • bubbles (50p, Tiger)
  • wind-up dinosaur in plastic egg (£1, Paperchase sale)
  • gingerbread bubble-bath in mini snow globe packaging (£1.25, Boots January sale)
  • Penguin fingerless gloves (John Lewis sale a while ago, can't remember how much - couple of quid?)
  • Mini Snowman soft toy (£4 John Lewis sale, last Christmas)
  • Stickers (£1 Paperchase sale last Christmas)
  • stripy red and green candy cane (£75p in local deli, they sell them year-round, no idea why!)
  • Jelly Belly mini fruit bean selection (£1.50 in John Lewis last week, has best before date of end of November, I'll take a chance on it that DD won't be poisoned by them four weeks later at Christmas grin)
  • Foam bouncy ball with tropical fish on it (£1, Hawkin's, summer sale)
  • Light-up bath duck (£2, Hawkin's, summer sale)
  • last year's Charlie and Lola Christmas magazine which I forgot to give DD and later found in bag in cupboard, she won't notice that it's a year out of date!
  • Woodland animal hair clips (£1, dotcomgiftshop summer sale)
  • pink glitter hair ties (£1 John Lewis summer sale)
  • small tube of 12 coloured pencils (£1, dotcomgiftshop January sale)
  • small notebook (2 for £1, Tiger)
  • pop-up wooden soldier toy (£1.50 M&S January sale) - forgot about that one and only found it the other day!

I think that's pretty much everything that I could fit in! I keep a look out in sales and pick up stocking fillers throughout the year - it really saves me so much time close to Christmas and I love doing it. I normally aim to spend about £20-25 on the stocking. I do end up with a few too many stocking fillers, though, so there are some which will be saved for next year Blush

When the Christmas chocolate items come out in the shops I'll also get her some chocolate coins and something else chocolatey to put in - Thorntons usually do some Snowman choc figures so I might look for some of those to go with the Snowman soft toy. Father Christmas is bringing (downstairs under tree) a matching Snow Dog toy (plus some bath games and (probably) Playmags or Magformers), so i like the idea of a bit of a Snowman theme Smile

Hawkins and dotcomgiftshop have some nice stocking stuff, often in their sale. I picked up some things in there only yesterday - hairbands for 49p and some more of the sparkly unicorn eraser-topped pencils for anyone looking for unicorn stuff! I also love Tiger for stocking fillers.

Fam I'm trying to think back to DS' first Christmas when he was 11 months. I know he had a set of ELC Star links, an ELC toyboc giraffe, a toot toot car, a bell, and a satsuma, which he ate whole Hmm.

This year (nearly 4) he's getting:
Peppa Pig wash mit
Small playmobil kit
Small lego kit
Electric toothbrush (desperate attempt to make toothbrushing less of a battle!)
Socks
And some other ideas I shall steal from this thread!

Any ideas for DD, who'll be 4 months? Purely for DS' benefit, of course!

Oh and for ideas for your DD, OP - last year my DD was the same age as yours, and she had (I'll try and remember)

  • satsumas/choc coins/apple
  • mini penguin biscuits, M&S
  • individually wrapped madeleine cake (for breakfast ;))
  • a small JoJo Merry Christmas bunny (free in a goody bag from JoJoMamanBebe from one of their shopping events!)
  • Bubbles, Tiger
  • finger puppets, Ikea
  • pack of Crayola crayons
  • bath ducks, Tiger
  • sachet of Cussons bath crackles (£1 from Boots - they're in the baby section. DD loved these!)
  • wind-up caterpillar (can get these at Hawkins)
  • light up spiky bouncy ball (bought from National Trust shop but you can get them all over the place)
  • Christmassy red hair clips (JoJo)
  • a Christmas CBeebies magazine
  • a wooden kaleidoscope (Hawkins)
  • a small penguin toy
  • some sweets
  • a mini jigsaw, Tiger
  • a chocolate milkshake carton (meant to be for Christmas breakfast but she only drank it a few days later!)

Of the above, the most well-received were the light up ball, the magazine, the cake, the bath crackles and the caterpillar. But she liked all of the things!

I am totally stealing the Nutella and go dip idea! That possibly combines two of DD's favourite items of food. Though I don't dare think about the state of the bedsheets afterwards (she would likely get stuck in at 5am... Grin)

I got DS (12) a glittery light up bouncy ball last year and he absolutely loved it.

Yes to wrapping the stocking gifts, it adds to the excitement and makes the opening last a bit longer. Maybe if flying you could take paper and sellotape and wrap them on arrival?

And I wrap the items too, mainly because of my own childhood memories of the sheer joy of unwrapping all of the little stocking parcels Smile
