Something you want
Something you need
Something to wear
Something to read

What do you generally feel about this. I have never followed this myself but I have tried to cut down more and more each year. It doesnt really make a difference to me as my child has a december birthday so is inundated with more gifts.
I think the idea is quite good if you have a small house or if your child gets lots of gifts but only plays with a select few. At christmas I do consider books and clothes to be gifts whilst some people see them as a necessity. My child obviously gets books and clothes all year around but the books I buy tend to be chosen by my child and are a treat as they would be more expensive or something I wouldnt normally buy the same goes with the clothing such as a favourite character or a particular brand of clothing.

I'm struggling to think of things to get DD and DS, so they won't get huge piles of stuff. They'll get more than 4 things though (just!).

They aren't really asking for stuff yet. Maybe that'll change in the run up to Christmas (at 2yo last year DD wanted some paint and a hug!).

We tend to make more of their birthdays than Christmas, but I'm sure priorities will change as they get older.

We do this as gifts from Santa, then they get gifts from us on top, as well as a stocking full of smaller things. Xmas Smile

I'm not a fan of the rhyme, I spoil my girls, I love choosing things I know they will adore. Yes there's some plastic tat but the joy it brings them makes me and dp happy.

I do buy a lot second hand so some years I could buy a want, something to read, something to wear and a need for under £10! If the budget was tight I would just give those but if we can afford more why not? There's only a small window of time where a big pile under the tree seems so magical.
