***********************An important question regarding the Christmas appeal from SOAPBOX*********************************

andaSOAPBOXinapeartree · 17/12/2006 20:48

I need to get peoples views on how to distribute the mountain of stuff I have received for the Christmas appeal!

Thanks to a marvellous response from several sponsors I have got loads of things here that need to be distributed for the Christmas appeal - in reality probably much more than would pass the boundaries of good taste!

Can I get your collective views as to whether I should just package the lot up and send them out, or whether MN would prefer me to hold on to some of what are quite substantial gifts for distribution during the year to those having a difficult time?

I could keep the gifts and distribute when a child is sick or when relationships break down or when birthdays come round and there is no means to pay for a gift - those kind of times when it would be nice to send a little something to the children.

I'm happy either way - so over to you to let me know which you think would be best

Aww glad your ok & all well again, we have had the flu really bad, dd has been the worst but she is getting over the last of it now.

Am off to bed now but will catch up with you this week as have more time as ds has now finished nursery so no running around getting ready & trying to do all the things that need doing whilst he is there.

I never sign into MSN anymore i always forget but now you have reminded me.

Hope you & the kids have a lovely christmas to, you deserve it

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/12/2006 21:48

I think your suggestion of hanging on to, and sending out throughout the year is a lovely idea.

I think it will be clear who those in need are....and would say that maybe if something comes up - a suggestion of say 5 or more folk to you to send something be of significant vote?

JackieNoHoHo · 17/12/2006 21:50

Store it if you can, Soapbox, but PROMISE us that you'll put out regular requests for contributions to pay for postage and packaging costs - it wouldn't be fair for you to have to do all that.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/12/2006 21:50

Could stuff be sent to you to store throughout the year as well for this kind of thing, or do you not have the room?

munz · 17/12/2006 21:54

ven love that idea - after all the grateful help we have had this xmas i'd really love to give something more back than just a few bits and peices I had already of J's/in the attic.

munz · 17/12/2006 21:55

(sorry I should have said all the help we're grateful for this xmas )

magnolia1 · 17/12/2006 21:56

I think keeping it and sending over the next year is a fab idea but agree you should have help with postage ect....
As a reciever I am so greatful and wold feel much better about it If I am able to help with postage in the future

UCM · 17/12/2006 21:57

Yes, a thought, who is going to pay for postage etc? It's not fair that you should do this. I think that if we start up a 'send a pound coin sellotaped to a postcard (in envelope of course) or 3 1st class stamps to Soapbox campaign, you will get lots of help.

also agree with the holding on to stuff, it would be nice to nominate people throughout the year.

Saturn74 · 17/12/2006 21:58

I think storing them up for during the year is a great idea. Could MN have an account that people could contribute to for postage costs, or to donate towards buying more gifts?

olittletownofberolina · 17/12/2006 21:58

Soapy, do contact me if you do go ahead with this and want help with coordination.

olittletownofberolina · 17/12/2006 21:58

(it's foundintranslation btw)

CranberryJelley · 17/12/2006 21:59

I agree, keep and send during the year.

UCM · 17/12/2006 22:01

The problem with accounts/and officialdom is that is then becomes a business/charity and there are legal implications I think.

I personally think we should keep it really really simple as this DID work this year.

colditz · 17/12/2006 22:20

I am very very worried now that I am the person who was nominated that you are having doubts about, please don't laugh, but please can someone email me? If it is me, mail me an address so I can send back. Please don't be offended by me saying this either, I have a bit of a complex about taking things I don't deserve.

ISawTortoiseKissingSantaClaus · 17/12/2006 22:22

colditz I certainly wasn't thinking of you.

FLAMEinEckItsYuleAgain · 17/12/2006 22:22

Another vote for holding on for during the year.

I am still stunned by this whole thing...

andaSOAPBOXinapeartree · 17/12/2006 22:22

Colditz - please don't worry - it certainly is not you

OP posts:
Nemoinapeartree · 17/12/2006 22:24

colditz I know what you..am another fretting is it me even though I know we have nothing...think it is hard in this day and age for any of us to accept help.

magnolia1 · 17/12/2006 22:24

Coditz, I am exactly the same and paranoid it's me

colditz · 17/12/2006 22:24

Thankyou I am a bit silly about things like that, I try not to be, but I just am.

Soapy, you know you are now elevated to Mumsnet Demigod status?

olittletownofberolina · 17/12/2006 22:25

colditz, don't worry, I was nominated and feel exactly the same.

colditz · 17/12/2006 22:25

So, why are you suspicious then? Have you found out one of the addresses is in bucks palace?

FLAMEinEckItsYuleAgain · 17/12/2006 22:31

I just wanted to add (worrying about the doubts here too) - my finances have suddenly started looking up since this all started, and I am very very about it - not rolling in money, but not the "oh sh*t" situation as at the start... the rest of the swirling chaos of my world has dropped even further down though, and having the help we have had is one of the things that is pulling me through.

andaSOAPBOXinapeartree · 17/12/2006 22:44

Now you're all at it

If you have not had an exchange of emails with me regarding the matter - then it isn't you!

Is that clear enough now

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/12/2006 22:47
