What foodie treats MUST you have in at Christmas?

When we were kids, mum always made fudge for grandma and stuffed dates for grandpa.
Am just trying to make a list of stuff to get this week and can't think what treats to buy, for those afternoons in front of the TV/playing with new toys.

So what do you all have in to munch on?

lots of lovely cheeses ("Little Baby Cheeses" )
nuts
chocolates (nice ones, not bog-standard every day ones!)
dates and figs

wickedwinterwitch · 17/12/2006 20:02

Stilton and port
salami
chocolate

HowTheFillyjonkStoleChristmas · 17/12/2006 20:02

veg box scheme in south west/wales

their website is my downfall

tissy · 17/12/2006 20:04

PPH -I know they smell of puke, but they taste delicious!

(We really must have a puking emoticon, btw, how about it, MN Towers?)

WhenSantaWentQuietlyMad · 17/12/2006 20:09

Champagne, Chateau-Neuf-Du-Pape red wine, brandy, baileys, port, mulled wine. Yes, alcohol and more alcohol.

Lots of nice quality chocolate (pref 'real' Belgian) and for some bizarre reason, M&S stuffing for Xmas day. Must be a throwback to childhood or something?

Mercy · 17/12/2006 20:12

Tissy, I haven't had a cheesy football for over 30 years, that's brought back some memories. Addictive but tongue-burning irrc!

Am no foodie (far from it) but each year we must have

After 8's
Dolcelatte
Turkish delight (the real deal round here)
Laphroiag (sp?)
Sausage rolls - Delia style
Mulled wine - homemade
Cava - and lots of it!
A decent port and sherry - any advice on this please?

Mercy · 17/12/2006 20:15

Oh, and when my grandmother was alive/younger, she used to send us clotted cream, ham etc (from Devon)

jeangenie · 17/12/2006 20:18

champagne, smoked salmon, more champagne

that's it really

Frostythesurfmum · 17/12/2006 20:21

We always have champagne and smoked salmon too.
A tin of chocolates - this year Heroes.
Brandy butter.
Babysham.
Snowballs.
Turkish delight.
Brazil nuts.
Roasting chestnuts (that we always plan to roast in an open fire and never get round to).
Shortbread biscuits.

smoked salmon and champagne OBVIOUSLY

MrsSpoon · 17/12/2006 20:59

Always make millionaire's shortbread during these hols for some odd reason. So ingredients for that is probably my only must have. Other than that plenty of wine, crisps and choc for eating whilst slobbing about.

Pomegranates, walnuts, lokum (aka Turkish Delight)baklava,a honeycomb and special Van cheese.
All will be coming from Turkey with dh on Thursday.

Vats of damned fine wine.

Oh yeah, and a bottle of Bailey's for dh.It is the one last vestige of naffness that I have failed to beat out of him.
Happily however, the huge tin of Roses died a death years ago.
I would die of shame if they crossed my threshold.

Heathcliffscathy · 17/12/2006 21:17

malory where are you?

champagne piss up sounds just the best thing ever.

i have major hiccups right now (the crianza we are drinking seems not to be doing anything)

the only thing i'm worried about is your propensity to boden.

i'm sure you wear it with style and panache though.
