Totally agree with you, Rat, it really is! Can you imagine leaving shopping/wrapping/cards/baking until the week before the big day?! I want to enjoy months of Christmas joy Xmas Grin

Ratbagcatbag · 14/06/2016 20:36

God no, I want everything sorted and to be relaxing from the end of November. Xmas Grin

mimsnet · 14/06/2016 22:04

SideOrderofChip · 15/06/2016 06:56

I need everything sorted by December!

HairsprayBabe · 15/06/2016 10:38

How early do the rest of you put the decs up? it really makes me sad when I hear about people not putting anything up till the 19th and then putting them all away on the day after boxing day! Especially if they have kids Sad

I put mine up as close to the 1st as possible and don't take them down till 12th night! over a month of beautiful christmassy sparklyness Xmas Grin

SideOrderofChip · 15/06/2016 10:46

To my husbands disgust mine go up end of november

TheWoollybacksWife · 15/06/2016 10:58

My tree goes up on the second weekend of December - usually it's the day we watch Sports Personality of the Year Xmas Smile - and we all help. I spend the latter part of the week before decorating the bannister and the mantle on my own. The crib goes up on the morning of Christmas Eve and the Kings go in at epiphany. The decorations definitely also stay up until 12th night. I take them down on my own and pack them away carefully.

Ratbagcatbag · 15/06/2016 11:33

Tree up generally the second week of December. Me and my best friend do it in a tradition we started 13 years ago. Dh's only involvement is carry said decorations from the loft. Now dd is here we did it in an afternoon last year so she could help.
Sorry to be a spoilsport though but it goes down New Year's Day afternoon.
I do like having all presents purchased and wrapped by the end of November so I purely have to deliver them with cards in December. 🎄🎄

HairsprayBabe · 15/06/2016 11:49

YY crib goes up start of Christmas week, and Baby jesus appears on christmas morning!
I do try to stage them slowly, but I only have teeny tiny rental house so I might as well do it all in one go!
I always help my Mother with her house as its is MASSIVE and beautiful 1920s build... swags in the hall, three trees, lights everywhere... I'm not jealous of her at all HA but she still lets me help so I don't mind too much!
They recently had the dining room redecorated in beautiful William Morris wallpaper and I cannot wait to see how lovely that looks when all the decorations are up Xmas Grin

mimsnet · 15/06/2016 13:25

They go up around the 13th (I like them up for my birthday) Xmas Grin and they go away on Twelfth Night Xmas Smile

mimsnet · 15/06/2016 22:23

First Christmas mission of the year: Find some white led lights for the tree in the front garden Xmas Grin
Does anyone know a good place (online ideally) for any?

mimsnet · 16/06/2016 00:06

191 Xmas Smile

Night all!

BiddyPop · 16/06/2016 09:16

Mimsnet At the moment, Ikea have reasonably decent sets of white LEDs on a solar panel for power - we've got 1 string on a tree in the back garden which are lovely (DH will put the blue, mains electric, led strings on the front garden tree in December).

Our tree and decorations go up reasonably early - occasionally last weekend of November (while watching the "Late Late Toy Show" - an Irish traditional start to the season for many's the long year!! [FGRIN]), the latest is normally 18/19th. Only come down on 6th January (although last Christmas, it was 3rd as that was the weekend and DH really was fed up - I was allowing him to take the lead on all things Christmas last year after DFIL, but we will be back up to at least near normal levels of festivity this year). I also want to put out the big crib this year - which means I can put the baby in on Christmas Eve night, the regular crib has the figures glued in.

lollyj84 · 16/06/2016 09:47

We put ours up the first weekend in december. We eat sweets and chocs and wear xmas hats. I put the xmas cd on and Dh and i have a few drink. Last year i let Dcs have a small lemonade. We make an afternoon of it. Would love to get some decs for outside this year.

HairsprayBabe · 16/06/2016 13:02

Awh that sounds so lovely lolly I put Micky Bubbles on and break out the Mulled Cider, would be wine but DP won't partake and I cannot drink all of it and still have a coherent scheme!!!

We have a "Hunting Lodge Chic" style going on... I may even have sewn new tartan cushion slips for the sofa to really ramp up the festive feel!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/06/2016 21:49

we put the Advent Tree up for the 1st (and any Advent Calenders that we have) but nothing else until after DS Birthday (7th)

Usually 2 weeks before (we spend a day getting them out of the attic and sorting them out, what goes where)
They are taken down on the 1st Jan.

I really covet tartan fleece bedding Hairspray , love the Hunting Lodge Chic Xmas Grin
Last year was loads of pastel tartans and stag prints instore

mimsnet · 16/06/2016 22:58

Thank you, Biddy. They look fantastic Xmas Smile and I really like the idea of them being solar powered, too. I can have great lights and be a little smug over my eco credentials Xmas Wink
We have the rustic/cabin chic look in our bedroom and we love it - the brushed cotton stag print bed sheets are utter bliss; 70 you should definitely treat yourself Xmas Grin

I showed DH the M&S brushed cotton tartan duvet set online.

His response was............well, not positive Xmas Grin

I have 5 months to change his mind / find some less lurid bedding /or trade in DH. (Though the reviews did say it stains the duvets and we paid £££ for our duvet so maybe best avoided)

Hmmmm.

That's quite a tough decision there 70. Maybe just maybe Keeping the dh wins, but only very marginally Xmas Grin

nickdrakeslovechild · 18/06/2016 09:06

last year Asda did fleece tartan duvet covers. They are lovely and pretty much not been off our bed since Xmas Blush
