What time do YOU put the filled stockings/ presents at the end of the bed

Have had no problems in the past with the dc waking at a reasonable hour to open their stockings but this year they are more excited than ever (5yo and 3yo) and have been waking an hour earlier than usual each day this month just to open their advent calendar! Worried that I'll be starting Christmas at 3am if I leave it out too soon Xmas Grin

End of bed normally, but last year DD (age 7) was opening hers at 1.30 am. And then woke DS and me to tell me about Santa. So re-thinking stocking placement options!

megletthesecond · 24/12/2015 12:28

Around midnight here too.

I bought duplicate stockings from poundland a couple of years ago so pre-fill one for each dc (9 & 7) and simply swap them for the empty one. Means only one trip to each room and minimal rustling.

Clutterbugsmum · 24/12/2015 12:36

Mine go under Santa in the hallway, as DD2 had a phobia about strange men going onto her room so are left there.

joosiewoosie · 24/12/2015 12:41

We are thinking of hanging them on the fireplace before bedtime and then Father Christmas can fill them as he comes down the chimney and deliver them to the foot of their beds when he's checking they are asleep, probably about when we go to bed, around midnight Wink

SerenityReynolds · 24/12/2015 12:47

We're doing a stocking on the
bed for DD for the first time this year (she's almost 3). Agree that the rustling of presents at the end of the bed is one of my favourite memories of Christmas. Can't wait to see what she makes of it! Xmas Smile

Thank you all for your replies. SnowBodyforrrrm and VoldemortsBaubles Xmas Grin

Like so many of you, I have wonderful recollections of the rustle of wrapped presents under foot as a child. I tended to sleep through to morning so strangely I hadn't anticipated this problem. I'm usually wrapping until late on christmas eve but made a conscious effort to finish before today so it's the first time I've actually had this decision to make.

Fancied an earlier night and to sleep through til morning but think I 'll err on the side of caution and do it in the early hours as usual as they'd never get back to sleep again after making a discovery. Thanks for helping me decide Wine

Ours were always at the end of the bed until the never to be forgotten Christmas when ds2 didn't sleep until 5 o'clock in the morning.

From that year on Santa announced that stockings would be left by the fireplace.

(Now both the blighters stay up later than us at the pub and we have the opposite problem.)

Pinkvici22 · 24/12/2015 23:04

I was planning on doing DD stocking now (at end of her bed). It's the first time we've done it (she's 3), but she's wriggling so now I'm nervous!!!

BlueStarsAtNight · 24/12/2015 23:11

Hopefully soon, but I'm nervous as the 3 yr old often still wakes at night. They will go by the end of the beds, but DS doesn't like the idea of FC going into his room so we've told him that Fc will leave them downstairs and me and DH will bring them up to his room - also a handy cover story if we get spotted!

imwithspud · 24/12/2015 23:34

First time doing stockings this year, 3yo and nearly 7mo - 7mo not bothered but it doesn't seem right to do the older one one and not the younger one. We've hung them on their wardrobes in their room. Dd1 often tends to wake in the morning and come straight into our room without a second thought so I'm thinking she will go straight past it and we will have to send her back in to check lol. It's he first year she really understands what's going on, can't wait.

imwithspud · 24/12/2015 23:36

Forgot to add, we've just put them in there about half an hour ago so around 11pm. The stockings start off empty hanging on the mantlepiece, then Santa comes to fill them up and puts them in their room.

LocatingLocatingLocating · 24/12/2015 23:42

DH does it, cos I can stand the pressure. He's just done DS's but has gone back downstairs for another glass of Bailey's before doing DDs, as apparently he heard her stir.

ZenNudist · 24/12/2015 23:57

Stockings on outside bedroom door handles here. 1yo and 5yo. Filled about 2330. Blinkin ILs still up so am nervous that ds1 will wake and it'll blow the Santa myth....

remembermewhen · 25/12/2015 00:03

Presents all went under the tree once she was snoring,
Ones with names etc I'll say who they are from & the ones from me with no names are "Santa"

The plate with the mince pie/ carrot & drink remains I've moved into the bedroom, filled stocking next to it,
I put it there just a wee while ago when I went to bed.

megletthesecond · 25/12/2015 00:03

Stockings on beds done.

Don't forget to make sure santa eats and drinks his snacks too!

remembermewhen · 25/12/2015 00:04

**I put them on the floor next to the bedroom door so wee one won't notice them if she stirs/ until she's actually getting up & I'll be awake by then ... Hopefully !

FarelyKnuts · 25/12/2015 00:09

By the fireplace as I'm heading to bed

whojamaflip · 25/12/2015 00:17

Downstairs by the fire but I think I've been caught out this year as ds1 has just come down complaining he's hungry Shock

Don't think he went near the living room.......

lrb978 · 25/12/2015 00:35

Stocking ( pillowcase because I can't find the stocking ) is on the landing near the bedroom door. DS is 13 now, have always done it this way.

CakeNinja · 25/12/2015 00:58

Have done 2 and will be doing the third shortly.
They go on the ends of beds as mine did. As pps have mentioned, that rustling heavy feeling on your feet on Christmas Day were probably the best 3 seconds out of the entire year, I can honestly still remember it now Xmas Smile

5madthings · 25/12/2015 01:34

I have just put ours in their bedrooms. They were all sounds asleep and now I am off to bed as well. Three hours sat on the floor wrapping when six mths preg was not good, you would think after 16 years and five kids I would have learnt not to leave it til the last minute.....

MummyPig24 · 25/12/2015 01:49

Sacks are laid out downstairs so we fill them once the dcs are asleep. About 9pm last night.

CakeNinja · 25/12/2015 01:53

All done now Xmas Wink
Ho Ho bloody Ho Xmas Angry

We're staying with family - all in one room with DS (3) on a camp bed so I took his in when we went to bed. He's just woken up, walked straight past it hanging on the door, woken us up for a cuddle in our bed, walked back past it without noticing and gone back to his own bed. Then, as I was awake, I needed the loo so have had to unhook it, slip it down onto the floor to sneak out, and am going to have to sneak back in and hang it back up [santa]
