What have you bought for the stockings?

momb · 14/12/2015 16:45

I am the queen of plastic tat for stockings: it must keep them busy for a while as we don't do main presents until after breakfast, there must be an element of usefulness in at least one component, there must be chocolate coins, a Satsuma and a walnut.

This year I've gone for puzzles:

each one will get (as well as coins, Satsuma, nut)
a rubiks cube (not official)
a rubiks snake (not official)
a chinese puzzle box
a purse
a memory stick
a miniature Baymax nightlight (not official)

then depending on age/likes and dislikes they will get token socks or pants, lipbalm, a colouring book, some pens, some perfume, some post it notes and gel pens, toiletries etc.

This for five girls between 11 and 18. I have tried to keep it below £10 each but have gone over (£15) for a couple of them this year.

What do you put in your stockings?

Mine have choc coins
Choc orange
Some other choc/sweets I can't remember
Lego mixel bags
Small minion plush
Book
Lip balms
Bath bombs
( DS has mr tickle bubble bath instead. I secretly think he got the better deal)
Card game (snap/happy families stuff)

ChimpyChops · 15/12/2015 00:22

Both (boys of 8 and 2) both have chocolate orange although 2 year old just has a few Segsations, matey bubble bath, chocolate coins, socks and shiny coins (from oh's grandad).

Then -
Ds8 has a Turtles yo-yo, Star Wars boxers, chocolate skateboard, bobble hat, Never Ending Story dvd, books, Star Wars notepad, gel pens, Star Wars magic flannel, Dr Who calendar (for all those important 8 year old appointments lol), shockwaves spray gel (the best, apparently) and that's all I can remember at the moment.

Ds2 has chocolate penguins, Ben and Holly pocket library, toy ambulance, a fez (obsessed with hats ) 😂, colouring pencils and colouring book and I'm stuck on what else to get.

outputgap · 15/12/2015 00:26

strawberry, dh is a bit obsessed with Tom Minis, as they are known here. I think he got them from Tootally Thomas. You will have a gold Thomas with your wheel. Am jealous.

momb · 15/12/2015 17:05

Sorry Theresatrexinmybed it was china. They took over a fortnight to come but are absolutely charming at only 9 cm tall :-( .

However there is this in the UK on Ebay with click and collect: a bigger gift but if he is obsessed....

If you want to try getting the ones from china they aren't much of an outlay (tiny but sweet) www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262119071837?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

My stockings vary depending on what things they would like for Christmas so sometimes they have a bigger present and a stocking that I have fun bringing in for under £10 and sometimes I might have got them less as a present but the stockings are more.

This year they have asked for very little really so pretty much everything they asked for on their letters to father Christmas is in their stockings and I've got them stuff they need as their present from me and dh (camping stuff and whatnot).

Ds1:

Sweets
Bubble bath
Some new pens and pencils
a couple of books
Lego Harry Potter for wii (second hand)
The lego deep sea starter set (which will be a tease for him as he really wants the massive set and is getting it for his birthday in Jan).

Dd:

All she wanted was a box of chocolates and a family of soft toy penguins. So she is getting 3 penguins and a box of chocolates plus bubble bath and pens/pencils.

Ds2:

Octonauts toy
Bath stuff pens and pencils
choc santa

There must be something else in there to even it up with the others but I can't remember what!

Sadik · 15/12/2015 17:38

DD (13), so far

2 x books (hardback greek myths book just added today as it was in the bargain bin at the bookshop!)
Iron on Ravenclaw badge
Tangerine

Did have a cheapy fountain pen, but my DPs have bought her a nice one as her main present, so that will have to get redirected.

I hope DH has something to go in it . . . Grin

Melawen · 15/12/2015 21:29

I miss getting my own stockings!!

DD (will be four) is getting

Chocolate coins
Chocolate teddy bear
Frozen socks
Balloons
Slippers
A tiny my little pony
Fake tattoos (bugs and butterflies!)
Christmas puzzles
Thomas the Tank Engine
Paper aeroplane
A Christmas DVD
Purple nail polish

And I think that's it - it does fit!!

anyoldname76 · 15/12/2015 21:32

mine always get slippers, fluffy christmas socks, tangerine, choc coins and a carton smoothie then usually 3 other things, this year my boys are getting a marvel superhero mini teddy, a car and a robo fish, my daughter has got some earrings, lip glosses and a pair of earphones. we open stockings in our bed so they have the drink and fruit before the carnage begins downstairs Smile

Nearlyadoctor · 15/12/2015 22:11

I always spend a fair bit on the stocking as don't do plastic tat as can't abide buying stuff that will be in the bin by the end of the holidays.

I also try to give things they'll play with or use, as we have too much tat. Allergies mean no smellies, ever!
They each get:
A book (i try to get something christmassy or winter themed)
A diary (I got the doodle a day type for youngest)
Playmobil blind bag
Jelly beans
Stationery (usually character stationery that I don't allow during the year -school rules!)
Lip balm (nivea stick for DS)
BlueTak (they go through a lot!)
Joke book
A hexbug each
Chocolate coins
Tube of malteasers
Mini spy kit with UV light/pen
No-one but me likes satsumas!

BornToFolk · 16/12/2015 10:04

I've gone a bit crazy on DS's (aged 8) stocking this year Blush for several reasons. Firstly, I think it might be his last year of believing in Father Christmas, but also he doesn't really ask for very much. His list was lots of little bits and bobs like those mini skateboards so I kind of felt like I had to get everything he asked for.
So, he has:
2 mini skateboards
1 Hexbug nano
1 tin of Match Attax cards
Several more packets of Match Attax cards
Colouring pens
Good writing pens (he was very specific about this on his letter to Father Christmas!)
Colouring book
Hulk soap on a roap
Mutant Mania figures
A Deadly 60 book
Some little wooden/metal puzzles and trivia cards (bought in Jan sales last year :))
Plus a load of sweets and chocolate.

Also a fleecy onesie for Xmas Eve. I'll probably also twitch and get him a festive bath bomb and some hot chocolate for Xmas Eve too. Grin

NowBringUsSomeFuzzpiggyPudding · 16/12/2015 11:10

NCISaddict · 16/12/2015 12:28

I still do stockings for my Dc aged 23,22 and 19 but this year I've got nothing so far. Blush
I was thinking of pretty notebooks for DD plus pens (she writes a lot!) Shower gel for all, chocolate of various sorts, pair of pj's each because I know they need them and it's boring to spend your own limited earnings on them.
Other than that I'm out of ideas.

Jeanniejampots80 · 16/12/2015 13:08
