Japanese Sweets, is this a thing!

DD has put "Japanese sweets" on her Christmas wish list.
NO idea what she means.
Is this a thing I don't know about?
If so, can anyone point me in the right direction of where I can purchase such delights?

I've no idea, but am hoping someone with more information will come onto the thread, because my son loves all things Japanese.

Oddly enough, my two eldest were on about Japanese sweets months ago - I had no idea what they were talking about.

Maybe it is a thing...?

I presume she just means sweets from Japan. You should be able to order them online, may be expensive though!

My friend's two DDs are into these - we went to the Wing Yip oriental supermarket near Croydon the other week, and they came out loaded with all sorts - chocolate filled bears' heads, erm, straw-type biscuit things in different flavours etc. etc. If you're anywhere near Croydon/Purley (am not entirely sure where we were!) it would be worth a visit.

Dont worry about ordering from Japan... if you're near a large town or city, Chinese supermarkets usually have Japanese stuff in. Pocky can be got from Selfridge's too.

The best Christmas present I gave to DS aged 14 was a parcel of Japanese sweets and drinks. And some noodles. I ordered online from a company in the UK.

My daughter watches hours of Japanese YouTube videos where kids mix powers in a special tray and it turns into jelly sweets.

My Entertainer has started to sell the sets, they're about £8-£12. I've had a look on the website but have only been able to find this -

There is a monthly box you can get, I get the general one (stationary etc plus one edible thing) but I know the same company does a sweets one. Let me know if you want a link (had a quick Google but couldn't see so will have to go through my emails)

OP - Google Japancentre.com. Loads of sweets you can buy online, and you can find out the most popular etc which might be a good place to start.

I live in Japan. Those sets to make candy sushi or ice creams are about two quid each. I need to start an export business!

Peach that's not a bad idea, everything Japanese is huge for a large number of teens and 20 year olds over here currently.

My Japanese friend sent DD a massive box of them. They are fantastic. Not sure how much the sweets cost her but the postage made my eyes water!

I think the monthly subscription thing is "Kawaii Box". I got a free one for DD from a blog competition, she loved it but when I looked into the subscription it was quite pricey. We got one of the make your own jelly sweets did things, TBH it was more fun to make than eat, DD didn't like it much.

I'm quite partial to Japanese bean paste sweets, but that's probably not what your DD is after as they're a bit of an acquired taste.

DP subscribed to an online service that sent us Japanese sweets once a month - was interesting for a few months.

I'm afraid I don't know where he found it - but I'm sure a Google would turn something up.

I've seen them on YouTube. They could mean "DIY candy kits" or general Japanese candy like Pocky.

My son loved the foaming "moko moko" toilet .

Blippo is a site that sells japanese and kawaii products. Lots of sweets on there, including sweet potato kit kat and a variety of poo shaped sweets Hmm

Yep, they are a Thing. My DD's BF is addicted to them and recently got a rollicking from her mother who discovered £££££s had been spent on acquiring them. Teenagers are odd things - but at least it's not cocaine and loose men.

Thank you I've just spent a small fortune on stocking filler sweets for my son at Japancentre.com - he's going to be delighted when he gets three packets of Raman noodles too Grin
