I am sorry if there's another thread going but I can't find anything. I would love some ideas for a main present for my 8YO DD who's already swamped by playmobil, sylvanian and lego and doesn't like dolls. TIA

fuzzpig there are two series I found suitable she likes, one is called Yotauba&! which is about a sweet eccentric little girl of 5 with green hair. This one is read in the traditional back to front way which I struggle to manage but my daughter seems fine with.

The other is Chi's Sweet Home, which is about a little cat who lives in an apartment with a family who aren't allowed cats. It's silly and sweet and also really child friendly. This one reads front to back.

I got them last Christmas when she was 6, when I was encouraging her to try reading chapter books or anything other than picture books (which she typically started doing about a month before Christmas!) and she asked for more for her birthday and again this Christmas.

fuzzpig · 23/11/2015 14:26

Fab! That's brilliant Shemozzle thank you very much. :)

Shemozzle · 23/11/2015 14:32

Sorry she was 7 last year when she got them. (I've lost a year!) But I think they'd be suitable from 6 right up to adulthood.

This is an interesting thread.
My 8 year old dd is getting a leotard as her main present, plus an electric toothbrush, 2 books, a personalised hand guard bag, and a DVD.
Father Christmas is bringing a small Lego set and another book.
I hadn't thought of Playmobil, I assumed she'd be too old. I might take a look...

TwoInTheMourning · 05/12/2015 07:52

Hello. I am also a bit stuck for a main present for my 9YO DD. The only thing she's mentioned she'd like is a watch. I went to Zazzle and 'designed' a really nice personalised one but delivery was £15 so that put me right off, plus no indication of delivery so suspect not before Christmas.

Has anyone seen any nice gem sets, decent size and with the names?

steakpunararemediumwelldone · 05/12/2015 09:23

Two, I saw a mumsnetter ask about watches on another thread ( I have been on too many christmassy ones) and they posted a really funky interchangeable strap one from etsy. Have a look on there!

JamieAndTheMagicFleshlight · 08/12/2015 22:00

Some great ideas on here! I have been inspired to get my 8 year old DGD the mini sewing machine from Hobbycraft, and a book called My Sewing Machine to start her off.

I know eff all about sewing machines, can anyone tell me if I should be getting her anything else with it? Some material or something? It comes with 4 bobbins (which I assume means thread?).
