I am sorry if there's another thread going but I can't find anything. I would love some ideas for a main present for my 8YO DD who's already swamped by playmobil, sylvanian and lego and doesn't like dolls. TIA

Lots of quite diverse presents on here. Love reading the lists. My 8 year old dd is getting: painting by numbers set, 3 art and craft sets, a board game, walkie talkies, 2 Chocolate moulds and chocolate to go with it and I'm sorting out an art and craft hamper (art and craft bonkers). She turned 8 in October and the presents that she loved was lucy the dog and monster high password journal

thequickbrownfox · 22/11/2015 21:36

Place marking for ideas! My DD is almost 8 but not really into toys any longer so I desperately need some inspiration.

jenster1976 · 22/11/2015 21:45

Place marking too, as excellent ideas: mine getting speakers for her IPod, new onesie, some random things with ponies on, pony magazine subscription and other ideas ill filch from her!

Bubbletree4 · 22/11/2015 22:09

Placemarking. Am stuck with this age group and now feel stingy after reading this!

thequickbrownfox · 22/11/2015 22:22

Me too - I usually try for a big pile, but it's been easy to buy cheapish large scale things till now. This year I'm not going to manage that!

There's an ice cream maker for £20 on Amazon which I'm considering as my DD loves all things ice cream. She'd love a tablet but I'm not sure about getting her one yet - although I'm wondering if I'm being over cautious. The other thing I considered was a build your own computer which teaches code. I'd be more comfortable with that as she'd access the mathematical and creative stuff without accessing the Internet and all its perils. She obviously uses my laptop, but I'm really reticent about getting her a tablet.

thequickbrownfox · 22/11/2015 22:24

I think this might be a winner. To make my life even harder, it's her birthday just before Christmas so I have double the quandary! So far I have a onesie and hot water bottle cover for that. Might augment with some slippers.

What will your 8/9 year old girls be getting this Christmas?
G1veMeStrength · 22/11/2015 22:29

So far, some Eva thingy books and some PJs.

Possibly - a treasure chest, a camera, some 'old fashioned books'. Ie hard back classics.

G1veMeStrength · 22/11/2015 22:30

I think DD would quite like a build your own computer /raspberry pi but I'm not sure she'd love it and whether it is a gadget for the sake of it iyswim.

StanSmithsChin · 22/11/2015 22:31

Just ordered a set of walky talkies for DDs to share, metal detector (for DD aged 6) and some pony fabric so we can make a fabric pin board

TheFear · 22/11/2015 23:12

Sew Cool sewing machine
Monster high expensive doll who's name I can't recall right now, it floats apparently
Little live pet turtle
Crayola sketch wizard

TheFear · 22/11/2015 23:16

Also books (trying to get her into Narnia), some of those colouring books for older people cause she is good at art, jigsaws and random crap (e.g. lip balm, hair clips etc).

tassisssss · 22/11/2015 23:22

My girlies are 7 and 9...loads of great ideas here.

I think ours are getting a table tennis table for the garage (joint gift also for big brother too) and I think the grandparents are getting a badminton net and racquets for all 3. this is all grand but our littlest is not so sporty and loves pink plastic tatt (or the massive Olaf we saw in Morrisons earlier).

So these ideas are great. Dd1 mentioned the vtech watch so was going to investigate that. Dd2 only has a little live butterfly and tattoo pens on her list! Lego a winner with both, I'd like them to have another jigsaw and new game, 7 yo loves sylvaneans. Have books for them.

redgoat · 22/11/2015 23:25

Thanks for all the ideas. Shameless place making. Lol. X

fuzzpig · 22/11/2015 23:38

DD does love dolls so a few things are related to that (particularly excited about seeing her open the gymnastics leotard doll outfit!) and some lego, but otherwise:

Gorgeous version of the Narnia chronicles
Small musical instruments (to share with brother) - cabasa etc to add to what they got a couple of years ago
A few DVDs, mostly older cheaper films but also got Paddington as she loved it
Puzzle books
Small box of tiny gemstones etc
Possibly new shoes, she's just started ballroom dancing so will need some but not sure if we'd better leave it a little longer

I know she also really wants a frozen dress up thing, and a poster of VG's sunflowers but I'm not sure where we could hang that. And she asked for clothes.

So no massive item this year which is unusual (had done playmobil for a few years but like you we have no more space!) but will still be a ridiculous amount to open I think.

I'm finding it much easier to get DD presents this year, it's DS (6) I'm struggling with (unless I just get lots of Transformers, but they always seem crap for the money - he is getting one though as that's what DD is giving him)

fuzzpig · 22/11/2015 23:44

Oh yes a board game, I've not usually got them for her as she didn't seem to enjoy them as much as DS, but on his birthday she did note that he always gets them and she doesn't!

I might get them that Bounce Off game. Would make a good Santa present as they know I roll my eyes at it when the advert's on... mum would never buy it Wink

fuzzpig · 23/11/2015 00:09

And the other thing which I've now seen on another thread (I should really stay away from MN, I'm sure I'd spend a lot less!) is one of those chin up bar thingies for the door frame. DD likes flipping over railings and stuff so I'm trying to figure out if she could use that, if we fixed it lower.

She loved the skate ramp she got for her birthday.

INeedACheeseSlicer · 23/11/2015 09:23

Playmobil vet examination room
Sewing stuff
Ocean Labyrinth board game
Lego deep sea set
Audio book

Posh fineliner colouring pens and grown-up Grin colouring book

Chocolate

dayslikethis · 23/11/2015 09:45

There's probably not much on my DD's Christmas list which would interest you as the main present is a summer house which is being shared by all 4 DC and so the rest of her stuff is mainly coming from family and is the usual arts & crafts crap, books & lego mainly.

However, the two most popular presents she has had this year have been her

  • camera (end of school year gift in May - we were moving back to the UK a month later and we bought it so she could document her life in the US - she still uses it loads - makes wee videos, takes a ton of photos and loves sending pics to her friends) and,
  • JBL Pulse wireless speaker. She has an iPad mini and listens to music and audio books a lot and LOVES her pulse. She uses it almost daily. It was expensive, but you might find a black friday deal, or if not then there will definitely be other ones which I'm sure would be just as good. She loves the lights on it and all her friends love it too. It's actually a very good quality speaker and we often borrow it for using downstairs for music too.

Shemozzle just wondered what the manga series is that your DD likes please? DD really wants to read some manga but I've struggled to find any that is ok for an 8yo!

OohMrDarcy · 23/11/2015 10:11

DD will be 9 in feb, her main present is a sewing machine! She loves all things creative and has recently got into sewing and asked for one as she wants to make clothes for her teddies!

she'll also be getting a locket (she got me one last year and loves it), and some other making bits.

She's getting ones of those kiddie glitter nail stations from my parents, and a cake pop maker from someone else I think as well as some clothes, decopatch etc
