DS1 (15) Blank sheet of paper
DS2 (14) 3 computer games

:(

I've usually done all my shopping and wrapping by now but I have nothing except a few books, a new phone case each and Pjs.

They just have everything and are good at taking care of their stuff so nothing needs replaced.

If they're outdoorsy (DofE etc) then they might like Go Ape. Mostly England but a few in Scotland and Wales too.

BigGreenOlives · 14/11/2015 22:00

DS is similar - I bought him some fancy biscuits, the sort of shower gel he uses day in day out, a box of maltesers, Pringles, one of those boxes which makes 20 different noises, things like that which he likes but don't cost much to give him stuff to unwrap.

PartyCityGhoul · 14/11/2015 22:01

You might find something on Redbubble - they do basically random independant artwork for most interests but printed on anything - t shirts, posters, bedding etc. I found it a godsend for geeky but hard to please DH!

myotherusernameisbetter · 14/11/2015 22:01

yeah they've done a few Go Ape - there is one not too far from us. Problem is that they need an adult to go on with them still and I wont go as I am terrified of heights and DH says he's really not up for it anymore which is fair enough - he is mid fifties and very fit but not great with heights either. Our local one is very high and very physical.

Thanks for the links and ideas, yes, I will be able to get them some stuff to unwrap - bought big tins of sweets last year too as it looks big all wrapped up and stockings full of foodstuff such as bags of popcorn and pringles and cans of fizzy juice and tubs of hot chocolate and fancy cereal. I can usually manage all that sort of bits but generally have a good idea of what their main thing (s) are. Last year DS1 got half the bits for a gaming PC he paid for the other half himself and DS2 got an xbox one. nothing that big wanted or needed this year.

I agree not all teenagers are into the same things. But the OP didn't say her DC were painfully shy. She said they play online games with friends but didn't socialise with them, which just struck me as unusual.

VulcanWoman · 14/11/2015 22:13

Well, you've just learnt something today, it's not unusual.

Minniemagoo · 14/11/2015 22:16

Headphones? A decent set can cost a bit.
If they have phones do they need an upgrade?
If they are into hiking etc.something like a Go pro camera?

SuburbanRhonda · 14/11/2015 22:17

Yes, mumsnet is always an education.

Minniemagoo · 14/11/2015 22:17

Cross posted but wow Margueite that's a great list

myotherusernameisbetter · 14/11/2015 22:23

I didn't say they were painfully shy no, but DS1 is borderline aspergers and is socially anxious - he seems to be fine on-line but struggles with real people sometimes. DS2 not too shy but hangs out in a geeky crowd at school. We don't live near their friends anyway as they don't go to the local school because of bullying.

Having said all that, there are loads of teens that don't socialise for many different reasons - especially boys.

Thanks for that list Marguerite, I'll have look through :)

OP mine are "strange" too and so are their friends. Nothing to add as watching with interest. I've been buying little treats just so they will have something to open besides they like getting random surprises.

myotherusernameisbetter · 14/11/2015 22:26

You've reminded me I'd thought before about a waffle machine - they love waffles - thanks!

I think they'd like a mini fridge for their room but DH has already said no to that, they aren't supposed to have food upstairs anyway.

OP posts:
SuburbanRhonda · 14/11/2015 22:32

Well that extra information does explain why they don't socialise, OP.

myotherusernameisbetter · 14/11/2015 22:33

You've also reminded me I've pre-ordered them the Gaming z box which is due out at the beginning of December - that should be a bigger thing to unwrap too :)

Phones are still decent enough - their contracts are sort of timed with their birthdays so they can wait for that.

They walk about in just shorts and t-shirts all the time so don't need anything cozy, they have e-readers but prefer actual books which I've picked up a few so far and will get a few more, they'd love a pinball machine or a table tennis table but space and ££ doesn't allow.

They do have headphones but I think a decent pair in white for DS1 would go down well.

CointreauVersial · 14/11/2015 22:35

Ahh, I have this problem with DS. He's just turned 16 and said specifically that he didn't want anything for birthday or Christmas, just wanted a "credit" for future use. It's a pain; I can't leave him with nothing to open on the day, so I'm looking for a few smaller bits and bobs. My DDs are sooo much easier; I have a list as long as my arm.

Marguerite - great list!

myotherusernameisbetter · 14/11/2015 22:36

Suburban I just didn't think anyone would find teenage boys not socialising unusual tbh and therefore didn't think it needed any further explanation. Its seems to be the norm in our circle :)

Though before I found myself with two teenage boys I guess I wouldn't have thought that either. We were always out and about as teenagers but that's becasue there was only 3 tv channels and no tech to stay in for and we didn't even have a house phone when I was growing up. If you wanted to speak to someone you went to their house!

OP posts:
CointreauVersial · 14/11/2015 22:38

Ha ha - He'd LOVE a mini fridge in his room. He's such a lazy-arse.

He did express an interest in a swegway, until I told him they were way too expensive, couldn't be used on the road/pavement, and have been setting fire to people's houses while being charged.

Davros · 14/11/2015 22:40

Look at Philsophy Football (not just football related). Table tennis table is one of the best things we ever bought for the whole family. We have a very small garden, it folds up and is no trouble

SuburbanRhonda · 14/11/2015 22:46

Suburban I just didn't think anyone would find teenage boys not socialising unusual tbh

And equally I was surprised to hear there are so many teenage boys who don't like to socialise - maybe we all just assume other kids are like our own Smile

BathshebaDarkstone · 14/11/2015 22:47

Mellifera PMSL at the potassium t-shirt. I'm easily pleased! Grin

wannabestressfree · 14/11/2015 22:49

What about the monthly swag boxes that are delivered monthly that have a t-shirt and gaming bits in them.....

wannabestressfree · 14/11/2015 22:49

Sorry for double monthly :/

Haffdonga · 14/11/2015 22:57

Yours sound pretty normal. Mine didn't start socialising until they hit 16/17. Their Christmas lists are just the same=
DS1: Cash (or a 3 grand laptop fat chance)
DS2: Nothing

Some good ideas on this Fred. Smile
