dh and fil are always going on that the girls get too many. It's partly cos I wrap things up seperately, buy quite a few small and cheap things (eg new felt tips for ?1), and get them things they'd be getting anyway (like new pyjamas). so out of interest I just counted up - including everything right down to the chocolate coins in their stockings. I reckon when I;ve finished we'll be looking at

pressies from FC - probably about 10
pressies from us - 2
one from each of 3 gps, and 6 uncles/aunts/ cousins

total = 21

how do we compare?

PeachyIsNowAChristmasFruit · 07/12/2006 22:36

6 from fc
one each from Dh and I
maternal Grandparents, 2 aunts, 2 great grandads, Paternal Grandma has binned their gifts , godmothers, should be about it...

15

SlightlyMadSanta · 07/12/2006 22:43

From Santa I guess DTDs have got an embarressing 60+ between them. DD3 has probably got approx 8-10 which is more like it.

Thats without all the relatives.

Pinkchampagne · 07/12/2006 22:46

Presents from Father Christmas - around 10 (haven't bought all their bits yet)
1 present from each grandparent, 1 present from my sister, present from godmother & 3 of my friends buy for the boys too.
I have probably missed some, but going by that list - 17

jamiesamfreddie · 07/12/2006 22:48

wow, 60+ SlightlyMadSanta! We're nearer to you hatwoman, but like you I wrap things up separately - not quite down to individual chocolate coins, but nearly. Read (lurked!) on another thread vis tradition of letting kids open new pyjamas presents on Christmas Eve which I want to do this year. So that's a present I have to replace for Christmas Day.

SlightlyMadSanta · 07/12/2006 22:51

That is 60+ between 2 children - but still embaressingly high. Will probably get the same again when all the friends and relatives are in.

JollyOldSaintNikkielas · 07/12/2006 23:21

50ish between the 2, I buy loads of small stuff(crayons were 12p etc)and some new clothes.

PrincessPeaHead · 07/12/2006 23:32

mine get one thing from each of their siblings , one from us, one from Santa and a stocking with about 8 small things in it (socks, chocolate, a book, colouring pens etc). So that is 13.
Then they will get one thing from aunts and uncles (6) and 2 from grandparents and probably 2 or 3 things from godparents each. One small thing from each of nanny, cleaner and gardener. So about 27...

God that sounds a lot. But we are going to be 22 (all family) for xmas lunch so it could be a lot worse I think...! We try to keep it down as much as possible but it is tricky with an enormous family

Tortington · 07/12/2006 23:34

wow god took me ages actually.

erm well they got some mumsnet vouchers from kind persons.

thats it.

we are going on holiday thats their present

Tortington · 07/12/2006 23:34

no wait - they got some from rhubarb.

Quootiepie · 07/12/2006 23:35

Lordy - about 30 odd?

airy · 08/12/2006 00:06

DD getting 6 presents from Santa, 1 from me and her dad, then she has 6 aunts and uncles, 2 sets of grandparents, great grandma, and four great aunts and uncles that all buy for her!

So I reckon about 20ish, as long as everyone sticks to what I told them and only buys her one present....which they won't!

sorkycake · 08/12/2006 00:09

Ooh I think I might over-indulge my kids looking at this!
Erm, we always go by pile sizes. We stop buying if the pile looks big enough. The piles have to be the same size, roughly.
Dd has got about 20 presents (not including pens etc which we class as stocking fillers. Ds about the same. In our house Santa leaves them all, we don't buy any. They get Christams jarmies to wear every year, but not as a present to open.
I have no idea what else they'll get from Dh's side tbh. I've asked my side not to buy for a variety of reasons this year.

roisin · 08/12/2006 05:12

We do loads or presents - prob. at least 25 each including stocking fillers. But I rarely buy them anything through the year, so everything get's wrapped up as a parcel: loads of books, new felt tips, new pencils/rubbers, that sort of thing, as well as their main present. They also rarely get sweets/chocs, so we always get them a selection box and some sweets of some kind as a special treat.

Then they also get presents from relatives as well!

BudaBauble · 08/12/2006 07:29

Well I THINK DS (5) has 8 actual presents for under the tree from Santa plus about 10 things in his stocking plus about 5/6 books. Gets a present to open on Xmas Eve which is PJs, book and DVD.

I will prob add to it a bit. He is an only one and financially we are quite OK so I think i tend to err on the side of not spoiling him too much - as a result he gets less than some.

Sugarfree · 08/12/2006 08:59

Present from us,present from each brother (2),my sister,my parents (2-3),MIL,FIL,friends (2),so whats that?
10-11.
I was saying to MIL that I hadn't started stocking fillers last night and she said "Well, don't get much, your boys get far too much at Christmas anyway."
Bitchwitchcow!

crunchie · 08/12/2006 09:09

well mine get Chanukkah pressies and christmas ones

So Chanukkah they get a present every day for 8 days 7 of these are stocking filler type, so some stickers or a lip gloss, one main pressie - this year duvet covers and cushions (useful and pretty!)

FC only does the stocking, which includes knickers, bubble bath, hair bobbles etc

They are then getting clothes, a new scooter, a dvd, a cd and a couple of books from us. A present from each of them to the other.

So I guess in all 6 presents plus assorted stocking fillers.
Then they one pressie each from my family (4 more presents) and god knows how many from DH's family - usually about 6 each!!

FAR TOO MANY - That's for sure

hatwoman · 08/12/2006 09:09

stocking fillers count

OP posts:
LucyJones · 08/12/2006 09:17

Ds (2) will get about 10 small things in his stocking, one present from FC, 1 from my parents, 1 from in-laws, 3 from Aunts and Uncles.
DD (3 months) the same number except nothing from FC and only 3/4 things in stocking (for ds' benefit really)
We get more for them from our parents but they delivered them at the end of November so I went through them and opened some books and clothes already so that ds isn't overfaced on Xmas Day. This is the last year we'll be able to do that though as next year he'll know more about what's gone on

tarantula · 08/12/2006 09:19

dd gets tons of pressies but all cheap things. I havent counted. Her two main presents cost £30 together and the rest came to about the same but that includes lots of books and nice bath stuff/tights/socks etc which I'd have bought anyway.

fartmeistergeneral · 08/12/2006 09:23

love the new word, bitchwitchcow! Will try to use that at least once in conversation today!

I do get quite a few presents for both my ds's, but most are from charity shops and playgroup/school fayres etc. I just remember the wow! when I was young and seeing all the presents under the tree and want that for my boys. I'd rather get them lots of small things than one expensive big one.

MerryMegandSnowySoph · 08/12/2006 09:35

About 30 each.

6/7 each from santa, a load from maternal GP's. Loads from there dad, a few from there paternal uncle & loads from the paternal granny & proberbly one or two from DP's parents & sister.

Marne · 08/12/2006 09:52

30 ish, but i hav'nt bought many silly little things (they only get broke), 2 oor 3 big things each, loads of books to fill up dd1's new shelves, clothes and a few smaller toys. Too much realy

xmasmummy · 08/12/2006 09:55

i devise a list of things i would like them to have for xmas. everyone who gives money, it buys something off the list and i buy off the list too so they all get equal. mum gets 4 or 5 pressies each for them and their stocking fillers. in total they prob get about 20-25 pressies each but most of it only small stuff

maycontainstress · 08/12/2006 10:05

Far, far too many.

They're not having a 'main' present but getting quite a few games etc. They also have most things from FC. They'll also get shitloads from my exh as he'll try to outdo me, which he easily will because he's spent the maintenance money on his Christmas shopping .

So far they've got about 12 things each, including stocking fillers (some of them 50p). I'm going to buy them a couple of jumpers, something new to wear on Christmas Day. They always get tons from my relatives too.

Reading this has left me far less panicky over whether I've got enough for them.

HoHoHorsewoman · 08/12/2006 10:37

Mine get a stocking with about 6 pressies each in it. DD1 has 1 main present this year, but also has 4 items of clothing (because the main present cost half of what I was expecting and, as GPs were contributing, I made up the difference with some new clothes). With DD2 it's more a question of how much they cost rather than the number of gifts. I wouldn't spend more than £50 on her (she's only 3), so it's a DVD here, a book there. Things she will enjoy but not going overboard. TBH our family is HUGE and they get so much from others it seems obscene (although IL's presents are usually so dire or inappropriate that they go straight to ebay, anyway! )
