This year I'm thinking of trying out black Kraft paper decorated with chalkboard markers - I've attached the pic that inspired me, just found randomly on Google Images - and gold accents. Previous years I've done brown paper with greenery, stripes with a candy cane tied on, etc. I thought this would be good as I don't have to worry about tags - although I am making matching tags for the bottles of homemade booze Xmas Grin

What about everyone else?

LBOCS2 thank you, will be sale stalking their gift wrap section this year.

GunShotResidue · 09/11/2015 12:42

Thank you to whoever mentioned bells, I've just ordered 50 tiny gold bells :) I'm thinking of using plain red paper with gold ribbon and huge gold bows. I think for labels I'll use white card and emboss people's names on them in gold.

Only for adults though, DD's main present will be in poundland frozen paper, her stocking presents will be wrapped in bright paper with santa on it.

We only give to family, so presents from us sit under our tree until we exchange them on Christmas day, we spend the morning at my dads with all my family, then the afternoon at MIL's with all DH's family

Heyheyheygoodbye · 09/11/2015 13:00

Arf at people getting annoyed Grin don't worry, I'm not lobbying to make it compulsory!

These all sound lovely. I'm especially keen on the idea of navy paper with copper ribbon!

And I do quite often wrap other people's gifts for them. One cousin always has me over and plies me with wine while I wrap all her kids' stocking gifts! I love it Xmas Grin

My comment about the mishmash was aimed to draw out admissions from those people who rewrap, or double wrap any presents from grandparents etc. so that they all match the theme. Not so I could be snarky, but impressed and envious. I wish I could be so organised.

Limbo is it bizarre to have some presents arrive through the post or delivered in pre-christmas visits?

Heyheyheygoodbye · 09/11/2015 16:30

Goodness no, I don't rewrap. For me I see family in Christmas Day and we are a 'buy a few small things rather than one big one' family so I like to hand over a little stack of matching gifts. It's just something fun and creative I like to do Smile

I appreciate it's not for everyone though Grin and I don't expect anyone else to do fancy wrapping on gifts for me! One memorable year my then-teenaged SIL wrapped DH's gift in foil and mine in a towel!

choccyp1g · 09/11/2015 16:34

Wrapping in foil can look great, especially with a sprig of holly and red ribbon, but it works out quite expensive.

SirChenjin · 09/11/2015 17:05

Hmm...tin foil you say? I see a use for all my used oven tray liners Grin

blibblibs · 09/11/2015 18:01

DC Santa presents are a different colour for each. DS 7 noticed last year that the paper had changed, same colour but different pattern, so I went out and bought enough to last until he no longer believes!

Under tree presents are brown posting paper, 10m for £1 in poundland Smile, with lovely green & red tartan ribbon.

stuffthenonsense · 09/11/2015 18:17

Ooh I love wrapping and wrapping themes, although this year I'm so massively pregnant with twins my arms aren't long enough to be of any use in front of my bump so DH will be wrapping (under supervision but I still can't expect more than sellotape and some paper where it touches, why can't men wrap beautifully?) I really adore OP's black and chalk theme but worry that the chalk would smudge? Will you use some kind of fixer?

Heyheyheygoodbye · 09/11/2015 18:19

stuff I'm using chalk markers as opposed to just chalk so I hope that will keep it in place? If not I will try a bit of hairspray - sealant of champions Grin

Congrats on your bump! Twins, how fabulous.

didireallysaythat · 09/11/2015 19:04

Where do you buy wrapping paper online ? I don't have time to go to the shops and I've not found a good source yet.

LimboNovember · 09/11/2015 19:07

MT

WOW!!! that is serious dedication!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/11/2015 19:37

It doesn't necessarily take any more time or cost to wrap them nicely tbh, for all those pulling shock/horror faces. My wrapping paper cost a pound a roll, tags were 20 for a pound and curling ribbon is really cheap in Paperchase.

MTWTFSS · 09/11/2015 19:40

LimboNovember I doubt I'll actually do it, lol, but I REALLY want it!

Heyheyheygoodbye · 09/11/2015 19:43

Oh MT that's so lovely!!

OP posts:
SirChenjin · 09/11/2015 19:44

Remus - you obviously don't wrap presents the way I wrap presents! Attaching bells and gingerbread men and writing messages in chalk automatically doubles the time taken to fold paper/attach sticky tape/move onto next present.

Ilovetorrentialrain · 09/11/2015 19:44

OP this thread has been an eye opener to me, I had no idea people went to such lengths. Some absolutely fab ideas here. I love the PP's idea with little bells.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/11/2015 19:50

Must admit that I do the gifts for stockings as you describe - no arty, pretty stuff for those!

DrivingMissLazy1 · 09/11/2015 19:51

I love a theme.

I once did various jewel coloured parcels with silver ribbon and silver baubles. They had an expensive look to them.

This year I'm thinking of a flowered paper. I saw photos of Anna Wintours presents last year and they looked fabulous.

Likeaninjanow · 09/11/2015 19:52

I thought everyone did this, until I got married. DH's family think I'm properly WIERD for having themes!

Not decided this year's yet. Last year was the Nutcracker soldier paper, with red ribbon. The kids just get cheapo multicoloured stuff out of the card factory though.

Like the idea of brown paper with ribbon & holly, and I have a holly tree in the garden.

SirChenjin · 09/11/2015 19:52

OMG - you're supposed to wrap the stocking gifts?? Shock

I am officially very crap at Christmas.

bigkidsdidit · 09/11/2015 19:53

I love the black paper. Might do that for grown ups.

I have one type of paper for each dc from Santa and another type for both dc from me. Plus some for grown ups. So four types Grin might do sprouts for the Dc then I can buy red / gold for the Santa presents.

dementedma · 09/11/2015 20:24

We never wrap stocking gifts. I didn't know people did that u til I came on here.
