Christmas

Is anyone else in full-on Christmas mode yet?

Or is it just me?! Last night we had our 'mini Christmas dinner' evening - it's a tradition in our house where we have a mini roast dinner with cava, a cracker each, and a Christmas film (this year it was Lost Christmas, the Eddie Izzard drama from a few years ago which makes me cry every time) on the first Saturday after bonfire night. It's not as madly Christmas as it sounds but we do it to mark the start of the run up, given that bonfire night is the last 'big' thing before Christmas. It's lovely, and when DD was little it was super magical (she's 18 now and loves it just as much).

Anyway I've woken up today with a slightly sore head and I'm feeling soooo Christmassy. I just want to get on with it! Not in a putting up the decs way (although a neighbour has hers up!), just all the lovely lovely Christmas stuff. Is anyone else 'there' already and just too bloody impatient to get going?!

We do a fake Christmas Dinner as well. I always make a mushroom Wellington for the vegetarians and the recipe I use makes 2 and a half large wellingtons, for some reason. So I make it in November ( quite time consuming and don't want to be fussing with it in December) freeze 1 and a half for Christmas Day and have the first one on a Sunday in November. Trial out any other new festive recipes, use up any old crackers, crack open some wine, invite a couple of friends and make it proper Christmassy. I'm panicking a bit as only have one free Sunday in November and not sure my friends can make that day.

For Christmas radio, here in Ireland we have Christmas fm, they choose a different charity every year and all proceeds for texts go to the charity. It doesn't start until the last weekend in December, but they have an app that plays Christmas music all year, it's called Christmas fm! Love it! Xmas Grin

Not in 'full on' mode, but been sorting out the decorations / buying new ones, and choosing Christmas presents for people this weekend. Not really that big a fan of Christmas normally, but we are settled in our new house this year having had the last couple either immediately pre or post house move, so I think that makes a difference.

The Starbucks red cups have appeared in our coffee shop in work as well, which has also made me feel festive!

I'm in full blown Christmas mode too Grin Wrapped half my presents ,written out my cards and soaking my fruit for the Christmas fruit. In fact I was listening to Christmas music whilst I was carving my pumpkin last weekend Blush
My mood tends to plummet in winter , I think because of the darker evenings and the cold so Christmas is the one thing that keeps me going (sad I know ). I always remember my dad hating Christmas when I was younger and would really put a damper on things. I want my kids to enjoy their Christmases so try and really build it up for them. Also , I find if I do it all at once then it takes a bigger hit to my bank balance as opposed to spreading it out - I'm a lot more chilled that way.
Saying that , I never inflict it on others (apart from my partner , kids and mum Grin) so don't put decorations up until December.

Thank goodness I'm not alone!

I hear that Smooth Xmas is back on DAB for those looking for a Christmas music station, it's fab - lots of cheesiness plus lovely vintage classics. When it starts broadcasting I know we're really getting there.

I'm currently deliberating over whether to change the habit of a lifetime and go for coloured lights on the tree this year - we need new ones and I've fallen in love with the coloured lights bedecked tree in the window of my local JL. It's so colourful! But I'd want to mix it with coloured and clear lights elsewhere in the room (warm white net lights in the window, red ones over the bookshelves etc) and I don't know whether it'd look cool and eclectic or chaotic and tacky... Opinions gratefully received!

Been watching the Christmas cookery shows with hot chocolate and a roaring fire - nothing makes me feel as warm and fuzzily festive as watching Delia stuffing her turkey Smile

You are not alone! It is always christmas here, and I genuinely think it is one of the nicest topics on mumsnet. You can spot an outsider miles off ffs

I am running g at about 40% at the moment, on the christmas scalendar. Set to improve on the 15th when I get paid and an finish up my Xmas shopping :)

I am absolutely bursting to give my dgmil her present, she doesn't talk much but we've gotten quite close and I've bought her something she told me she used to dream about as a little girl. I really can't wait to give it to her Grin

For me, it's too early....but love lurching here and seeing what all you crazy Christmas forumers are doing Grin

I passed a house last night they had all their Christmas lights out, wreath, tree up. I wondered if they get sick of it all by Christmas.

I am Christmas shopping now though - love to get an early jump on that.

I think once Halloween is over it's fair game. We've been watching the Peppa and Ben & Holly Christmas episodes all week, and those awful cheesy Christmas TV movies that are everywhere. Have about half my present shopping done (Tesco toy sale last week) and bought nice cards months ago, but haven't written any yet. Will save decorations and Christmas music until December though. We're driving home for Christmas on the 18th, and I've told OH it'll be Chris Rea in the car all the way...[santa]

I love this board. I went to watch Christmas lights switch on last night , had my first Starbucks red cup and started wrapping today.
Starting Christmas production and crafts to sell at the fair this week.
Bring it on !
However , this year I am restraining myself from mince pies until December the first .

We have a roast dinner 2-3 times a week. Nothing to do with Christmas though. I will get into full-on mode on the 23rd December earliest.

I do like Christmas but if I started getting all festive this early, I'd be sick of it by the time it got to December. I will be buying some presents this week but there will be no Christmas movies etc for a few weeks yet.

Presents bought, and mostly wrapped, a lot few new decorations bought, shopping list sorted online, as soon as the slots open I will book one. I think if I played Christmas music openly it would be too much for the rest of them, but I play it on my way to work Xmas Grin

I am feeling especially Christmassy this year, but we have 8 month old dgd living with us, and I feel like I have permission to go a little OTT, like I used to when the dc were small

I'm really excited and want to start watching Christmas films/decorating, but it's DS birthday I a week and a half and apparently I'm not allowed to do anything Christmassy until after then!

I have done all of my Christmas shopping though [santa]

Im 80 percent done on gifts, and have the wrap and tags, but am holding off wrappi g til December as I want to delay the start of "christmassy feeling" otherwise Ill be waiting aaaages!

DD will be four just before christmas so I am eagerly anticipating how wonderful a day she is goibg to find it. We have lots of crafts and stpry books waiting for December to start.

DS is just one, so am fretting as I like to put my gifts for others under the tree whenit goes up but he is into EVERYTHING.

I'm sending DH up into the attic to put the Hallowe'en decorations away (had to dry it out, it was misty/drizzly) and get the winter bedding and clothes down .
I'll sort through, wash it and make up the beds . We have winter bedding that we jazz up with Christmas fleeces so I can get away with it in November .

DS birthday in December so no decorations apart from the Advent Tree till after his day.
