You're going to someones house for a relatively standard Christmas roast dinner.

What one thing would you want to insist on having to make it a proper Christmas dinner?

Cranberry sauce? Brussel sprouts? Christmas pudding for dessert?

For me it is bacon wrapped cocktail sausages. I get a little bit itchy thinking "what if" they weren't there Hmm

narcycow's description of Christmas dinner and accompaniments is like food porn!!

Pigs in blankets and good assuage meat stuffing. Yummy

icclemunchy · 19/10/2015 19:41

Pigs in blankets! Or pig sex as my DP delightfully calls them (pig in pig Shock) my mil tries to do them with big sausages and cut them to make more portions, it's just all wrong!!

PesoPenguin · 19/10/2015 19:42

I'm even worse than you dh OP. Mint JELLY would be my 2nd choice! In fact I have mint jelly, apple sauce and stuffing on each forkful of turkey!

peaz · 19/10/2015 19:47

Pigs in blankets here too. We aren't having turkey this year, and will probably do beef wellington, but I'm still doing those bad boys!

TheOriginalWinkly · 19/10/2015 19:50

Proper stuffing. I made stuffing and brought it with me the year we had Christmas dinner in MILs. Fucking Paxo on Christmas Day? I don't bloody think so.

ouryve · 19/10/2015 19:52

Stuffing. Everything else is secondary.

heheheheheheh · 19/10/2015 19:56

Sprouts in gravy. I could eat a whole plate of sprouts in gravy.

MrsDeathOfRats · 19/10/2015 20:05

Pigs in blankets!!!

I have t had any in years as dp is Muslim so we don't have pork I'm desperate for someone else to host so I can sneakily eat a few without being seen

InQuiteAPickle · 19/10/2015 20:18

Definitely pigs in blankets!

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/10/2015 20:36

I wasn't planning on doing a roast this year, but reading this I might have to do bread sauce, stuffing×3 sprouts and gravy.
All the best bits.

ComeInBaldrick · 19/10/2015 20:47

Yorkshire puddings. It's taken me ages to whittle it down to just one thing though!

Sparkyduchess · 19/10/2015 20:49

Pigs in blankets. I also make a huge batch on the 27th for ds's 'breakfast', family tradition!

timelytess · 19/10/2015 20:50

Roast potatoes.

Wouldn't make, serve or eat 'Pigs in Blankets'. Disgusting.

NarcyCow · 19/10/2015 20:51

Kilted sausages?! How many things are there that people festively clad their sausages in that I don't know about, or is it a bacon kilt and therefore just a Scottish blanket?

duckbilled · 20/10/2015 09:39

Pigs in blankets here too!

Worried83 · 20/10/2015 10:09

Pigs in blankets

Heavenscent86 · 20/10/2015 11:37

If someone's making it for me really good gluten free Yorkshire puddings as I just can't get them right. Not traditional Christmas dinner food I guess but I miss them so much.

MoriartyIsMyAngel · 20/10/2015 11:41

Roast potatoes.

morecoffeethanhuman · 20/10/2015 11:49

Started diet on Monday - clicks onto food porn thread .....today is not going well!

But of course pigs in blanket....wait, no - cauliflower cheese, but ill cry if there's no roaties!!
Dam you all! Now I'm drooling at the thought >sulks off to eat a rice cake

mmgirish · 20/10/2015 16:04

Bacon and stuffing rolls mmmmm

PurpleDaisies · 20/10/2015 16:13

Stuffing was my instinct, followed by bread sauce. Oh, but pigs in blankets are essential too. This is too difficult.

Interesting no one has said Turkey.

IHaveBrilloHair · 20/10/2015 16:27

Turkey is blah, we never have it for Christmas.

GloGirl · 20/10/2015 16:31

Ha yes turkey is noticeable by it's absence. I've had a few Christmas dinners without turkey, I didn't really miss it.

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 20/10/2015 16:33

We don't have turkey either. I've seen a fair few threads on here where the prevailing view seems to be that if there isn't turkey served it isn't a proper Christmas dinner. I was surprised no one was voting for it (there will probably be loads now!).

scarlets · 20/10/2015 16:36

Roast potatoes and sprouts. I could eat a plate of these two things with gravy, and be perfectly content.
