Something that dh and I can snuggle up to when the children are in bed, as well as stuff we can watch as a family, ds is 4, and I don't think that ds2 who is 5 months will care! Grin

I love miracle on 34th street, home alone 1 and 2, the holiday and it's not christmas without national lampoons Christmas vacation Grin

charlh929 · 07/10/2015 19:18

The Muppets Christmas Carol & The Santa Clause Smile

MyBoysAreFab · 07/10/2015 19:19

Elf!

JeffsanArsehole · 07/10/2015 19:20

It's a Wonderful Life - just the best

Noel with Susan Sarandon - very little known, lovely film

Scrooge - with Patrick Jean Luc Picard

Pyjamaface · 07/10/2015 19:20

I saw It's a Wonderful Life for the first time last year and it's brilliant.

scarlets · 07/10/2015 19:21

The Bishop's Wife (original version). How About You. The Holly and the Ivy. Holiday Inn. Noel.

Black Christmas (1970s horror) is great but certainly not suitable for LOs lol. An acquired taste for grown-ups too.

Merry Christmas is loosely based on the famous 1914 truce, when the Brits and the Germans played football on No Man's Land. Again, not young child-friendly.

I'll follow this thread with interest!

JeffsanArsehole · 07/10/2015 19:23

Bad Santa - a really naughty hilarious film with Billy Bob Thornton as a total reprobate

AnyoneButAndre · 07/10/2015 19:24

Die Hard

TheImminentGin · 07/10/2015 19:25

The Muppets one.
Elf
The wizard of oz. Not christmassy but always used to be shown at Christmas so I associate it with the season.

It's a wonderful life is dreadful American hokum. Boak.

BrieAndChilli · 07/10/2015 19:32

I'm a sucker for Xmas movies especially the made for TV films you find on the Christmas 24 film channel (free on sky)
Kids love
Polar express
The snowman
Elf that rescued Xmas or something similar

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 07/10/2015 19:45

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is a must-watch every year.

Star2015 · 07/10/2015 19:46

I love the family stone (a bit sad but love it), the holiday, love actually and home alone.

Enjoy!

Blarblarblar · 07/10/2015 19:48

Scrooged with Bill Murray

And the Hogfather

Bolshybookworm · 07/10/2015 19:52

Another vote for its a wonderful life. It might have been hokum if it hadn't had James Stewart in it, but he's amazing.

dementedma · 07/10/2015 19:55

Miracle on 34th Street
Muppet Christmas Carol
The Snowman.

But most of all, ours love The Grinch.

LikeSilver · 07/10/2015 20:01

I love Christmas with the Kranks. It's totally naff but I love it Grin

Also love Elf, Miracle on 34th Street, Polar Express, and, erm, Mrs Miracle 1 & 2 Blush

Treats · 07/10/2015 20:06

We had Arthur Christmas on almost constant loop last year. And I didn't even mind because it's a great film. We also like the Snowman and the Muppets

BeetlebumShesAGun · 07/10/2015 20:09

Muppet Christmas Carol
The Snowman (not the snow dog)
It's a Wonderful Life

Sgtmajormummy · 07/10/2015 20:09

We all love The Muppet Christmas Carol but your DCs might be a bit young OP for the scary Christmas Yet to Come and Tiny Tim.

A taste of one of the songs:
"There goes Mr Humbug, there goes Mr Grim.
If they gave a prize for being mean the winner would be him.
Don't ask him for a favour 'cause his nastiness increases.
No crust of bread for those in need, no cheeses for us 'meeces'." Smile

And the two gleefully nasty old guys are Marley and Marley.

Interesting to note that they cut out a song about grownups not loving each other any more between the VHS and DVD versions.

Arthur Christmas is nice for kids who need their faith renewing in the mystery of Santa Claus, as they see three generations of men in the job. Bill Nighy gets all the plum lines as Grandfather Xmas.

kinkytoes · 07/10/2015 20:10

My all time favourite Christmas film is Gremlins.

AnthonyPandy · 07/10/2015 20:12

How about Lost Christmas with Eddie Izzard? Or The Greatest Store in the World (I think) with the Irish woman who's married to that bloke in the spy thing.

MrsJoyless · 07/10/2015 20:14

I love Christmas Do-over, it's Groundhog Christmas Day. Sadly not available on Region 2 DVD so you have to watch out for it on the 24 hour Christmas Movie Channel. I assume you are not subscribed to that, though, or you wouldn't be posting in the first place.

Doublebubblebubble · 07/10/2015 20:21

Muppets Christmas carol 100% being an adult doesn't matter for the Muppets.

Gremlins

Scrooged used to scare the bejesus out of me but it is fairly good lol

ILikeToClean · 07/10/2015 20:36

Every year without fail we watch:

Home Alone
Elf
Nativity
The Holiday (for us girls only!)
A Christmas Carol (the animated Jim Carey one)

and DH always makes us watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation on his birthday which is just before Xmas. We all groan as it's naff but end up laughing.

Your DS would probably like Arthur Christmas and the Muppet Christmas Carol. I find Polar Express a bit spooky...

Bolshybookworm · 07/10/2015 20:43

Is gremlins 2 the Christmas one? Love it!
