Something that dh and I can snuggle up to when the children are in bed, as well as stuff we can watch as a family, ds is 4, and I don't think that ds2 who is 5 months will care! Grin

Not a film, but I love the box of delights.

My kids think it's rubbish unfortunately.

Melawen · 07/10/2015 21:34

Oh The Box of Delights!! It's brillant - watched it for the first time in YEARS last year and yes it's a bit hokey but it's brilliant.

My other choices are fairly typical but I do have a sneaky liking for Santa Claus the movie.

GeneParmesan · 07/10/2015 21:38

Jingle all the way, so bad it's great!

TheWoollybacksWife · 07/10/2015 21:40

As a family we love to watch Elf.

If I was watching something on my own I would agree with Scarlets and choose The Bishops Wife - you can't beat a black and white Cary Grant film imho

Davros · 07/10/2015 21:40

The Man Who Came To Dinner (Bette Davis)

SideOrderofChips · 07/10/2015 21:44

DH: Die Hard
Me: Love Actually
DD1:Nativity 2
DD2: Arthur Christmas

Nicknamegrief · 07/10/2015 21:50

Arthur Christmas.

Swifey · 07/10/2015 21:50

I've never heard of half of these!! Will log on to Amazon (dh's account Wink) and order some!!

We love elf, nativity and the muppets Christmas carol.
DC love Santa paws

Qwertybynature · 07/10/2015 21:55

Love Elf, it's a new Christmas classic for us. Personally, (and very out of character for my usual film choices), it's not Christmas until I've watched Love Actually. I usually wrap the presents watching it.

Also really like Santa Clause the movie, but mostly because I want a bed like Mr & Mrs Christmas.

Qwertybynature · 07/10/2015 21:57

Ooo, and Scrooged (the Bill Murray one).

ClityClityBangBang · 07/10/2015 22:14

We love Elf but it's not Christmas in this house until we've watched The Sound of music !

It's now a huge tradition In our family & even my 8 year old ds loves it.

I didn't have a stable family life as a child but TSOFM warmed my heart at Christmas!

gossipgirlxoxo · 08/10/2015 06:48

E.T.
Nightmare before Christmas (possibly a bit scary for the kids)

bushtailadventures · 08/10/2015 07:26

Santa Claus the movie, can't miss it if it's on tv and have a dvd as back up for the rare Christmas they don't show it.

Not really a film as such, but Flint Street Nativity is great, again we have it on dvd because it isn't shown as often as it should be!

The Snowman, still makes me cry, even after all this time

Another Raymond Briggs one, Father Christmas

Perfectlypurple · 08/10/2015 07:35

I love most Christmas carol films but my favourite is the Alastair Sim one.

Also like miracle on 34th street.

I like most Christmas films. The cheesier the better.

SWFARMER · 08/10/2015 07:48

Gremlins!

mumchkin · 08/10/2015 07:53

Nobody's mentioned "Meet in me in St Louis"! I cry buckets when Judy Garland sings "Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas" to Margaret O'Brien...

ChristmasZombie · 08/10/2015 08:48

The Muppets' Christmas Carol and Arthur Christmas are both fab family films. DD(2) and I snuggled up to watch Arthur Christmas on Monday afternoon, and it's ben requested twice since.
Someone mentioned The Greatest Store in the World further up the thread. That's a nice one. It's cheesy as hell, but sweet :) you can torrent it, if you are patient enough
Oh! And there's a truly awful, but great (so bad it's good!) TV movie called A Princess For Christmas. The storyline is terrible, the acting is so-so, but ahhh! It's sooooooooooo pretty!

Scrooged is a must for the grown ups.

Every1KnowsJeffTheJerkOlantern · 08/10/2015 08:53

White Christmas

And Raymond Briggs Father Christmas. Its usually on at about half 5 in the morning or something silly but I wake up especially to watch it!

duckbilled · 08/10/2015 23:11

I love the family man with Nicholas Cage. Also the family stone, the preachers wife, white Christmas, and any made for TV film lol

Davros · 09/10/2015 14:12

When Harry Met Sally
Bridget Jones Diary
Planes, Trains and Automobiles (ok it's Thanksgiving - same thing!)
Agree about Meet Me In St Louis

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/10/2015 20:05

I think last year DH and I watched every variation of "A Christmas Carol" (even the one with Ross Kemp Blush ) but my favourite is the animated Jim Carey one (though DD was petrified by the door knocker)

We always watch "Lost Christmas" (Eddie Izzard)

There's always "Nativity 1/2/3 and I've just read there's Nativity 4 ?"

I can;t get into "It's a Wonderful Life" or "White Christmas" though.

Is "The Red Shoes" a Christmassy film?

Perfectlypurple · 10/10/2015 20:01

I love the Ross Kemp one 70

I also quite like the cheesy American ones, like the Tori Spelling one and similar.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/10/2015 21:00

There will be back-to-back cheesey Christmas films on soon (can't remember what channel but I'm sure someone knows. Might even be "The Christmas Channel" or did I dream it? )

Tori Spelling one was "A Carol Christmas" Xmas Grin

I watched some last year , the same actress turns up over and over (must be like being in a soap, What's on your CV? ..... Oh, Christmas films )

I like a good spooky non-DC type film.

Turn of the Screw
Whistle and I'll Come to You
Crooked House

I tried to watch The Woman In Black one Christmas Eve but chickened out after 15 minutes [shamed]

CrapBag · 11/10/2015 23:16

Don't be shamed 70isalimit, I spent that film behind a cushion and had bloody nightmares. I don't like jumpy films at all.

We love Elf. Has to be watched every year. Also love Arthur Christmas. Really didn't like Polar Express, thought it was pointless crap. This year we are going to watch Santa Claus The Movie. We always watch a Christmas film on Christmas eve after our picnic tea with some Christmas food and in our new pyjamas.

Oh I did like Nativity last year.
