Have just got back from ours, total chaos but thats another story.

It was 20p to get in, for kids aswell as adults, drinks and crisps and stuff was generally 10p and 20p and then there were stalls with bits and bobs on ranging from 50p to £3.

Anyway, you could visit santa too, how much do you think it should be ?

It was £1.50 at ours. Long queue so I didn't bother!

snowydelight · 01/12/2006 16:34

£1?

nutcracker · 01/12/2006 16:36

It was £2 which IMO was too high bearing in mind that alot of people at the school have at least 2 or 3 kids.

Needless to say, mine did not see him.

The grotto in town is £3.50 per child, inc a gift. For under 2s it is free, but if they want a gift it is £1. Unaccompanied adults pay £2 donation.

snowydelight · 01/12/2006 16:39

I think £2 is too much at a school fair.

xmasmummy · 01/12/2006 16:40

ours was 50p they didnt get a pressie as there were far too many but the grotto was lovely and they got a milkyway each.

nutcracker · 01/12/2006 16:40

I think it was too high bearing in mind that we had already paid 80p to get in and then got harrassed for the raffle which was another 50p.

I had only got a limited amount of money as had alot of parents (i know cos they were all moaning about it).

We have the school fayre tomorrow, but I don't think Santa is going to be there.

It's already cost me enough before I go with donations for cake stall, tombola, charity gift box, bottle stall, etc...

MerlinsBeard · 01/12/2006 16:44

ours is tonight and was wondering the same thing, have already HAD to buy a book of raffle tickets, send in a bottle of bubble bath or equivelnt AND sent in something red for the stall.....DS1 is only in nursery!!

TooTickyDoves · 01/12/2006 16:45

Ours is £3 this year but includes a ride on a land train. However, the presents are always v. cheap and plasticky which, as well as being fairly pointless and very non-green, generally means they have been made abroad by underpaid people. It's party bag syndrome all over again. This is a spoilt country.

MadameButterfly · 01/12/2006 16:45

DD's school Xmas fayre was last week.

It cost me £3 for her to see santa. I also gave her £1 to go into the parents shop to pick pressie for me, her dad, nana & grandma, that was £2 per [pressie and she got help to wrap tham and wrote the lables herself.

xmasmummy · 01/12/2006 16:46

thankfully at the boys school the fayre was free entry they did a cafe in a different room with tables and chairs really good prices- 10p for squash, 10p for cake or mince pie, 25p for tea and coffee and 30p for a hotdog. was really cheap, took all four kids and spent a tenner, both boys got faces painted, bought me pressie i got pressie for lo and food and drinks and santa visit for all of them and raffle and tombola and lucky dip. did well on a tenner really

MadameButterfly · 01/12/2006 16:48

Sorry that should say £10 NOT £1

I think a £1 would have been fare, I mean some parents just do not have the money at this time of year, espeically when you are already paying for parties, xmas trip etc etc etc.

At a local fair last week it was 2.50. I only have ds luckily.

WigWamBam · 01/12/2006 16:59

It's going to cost us £2 each, adults and children, just to get into dd's school fair tonight, and then there will be an extra charge for Santa. If the entrance fee was 20p then I wouldn't be too bothered about paying £2 - with an entrance fee of £2 to start with I won't be amused if it costs another £2 to see Santa.

PanicPants · 01/12/2006 21:07

Tonight ours was £1. The children got a gift and a glo-stick bracelet too.

And dp was santa!!!

WigWamBam · 01/12/2006 22:58

Having paid our £2 each to get in ... Santa cost £2 as well. Tombola £1 a ticket, kid's games 50p each ... and we ended up paying out for dd's friend as well, as her mother was running a stall and we ended up with her.

I feel distinctly ripped off.

nutcracker · 01/12/2006 22:59

wigwam, thats way too much.

How do they think people can afford that at this time of year.

OP posts:
WonderCod · 01/12/2006 22:59

£2 here

wit an APPOINTMENT

nutcracker · 01/12/2006 23:01

With an appointment, blimey thats organised.

Ours had a queue out the door and round into the playground.......another reason for not going in.

We did have real reindeer, which quite frankly I would have paid £2 to not have to see.

OP posts:
crunchie · 01/12/2006 23:03

Ours ia £2 with an appointment too!! However that is simply to avoid REALY long quese. They let those with preschool kids go first.

I also happen to know that Santas pressies cost £1.50 (my friend bought them all) and they do a HUGE amunt of decorating so they make NO money on that.

They make most money on the kids tattoos

JollyOldSaintNikkielas · 01/12/2006 23:04

£1 for ours ,usually get a small selection box.
Otther stalls are usually 10-20p

WigWamBam · 01/12/2006 23:05

Real reindeer? That's overkill, I think!

Appointments to see Santa's a bit OTT as well. We just got there early and went straight to the grotto, later on the queue was a mile long and I wouldn't have bothered.

The PTA are getting really money-grabbing; I know they have to raise a lot, but it's getting worse and worse recently. And they know you're not going to refuse to let the kids see Santa, so they have you over a bit of a barrel really.
