Wrapping

Anyone started wrapping?

I've gone and bought all my paper tonight and I'm struggling to hold back, had anyone else started?!

I haven't bought anything including wrapping paper! I have birthdays to get past first

daisydalrymple · 01/10/2015 19:58

Ooh no. When I start buying gifts / stocking fillers for the dc, I love getting them out and looking at them every so often! (I have to be a closet early Christmas lover here! Dh probably has no idea how much thought I put into Christmas- and he does think it's a lot!!!)

chanie44 · 01/10/2015 20:20

I'm nowhere wrapping yet. I struggle to find time to wrap, but I want to get it done a week before if possible.

AsTimeGoesBy · 01/10/2015 20:23

No, I do all the wrapping in one big batch in mid December, I like looking and sorting through everything as I buy. Also can't be bothered to keep getting wrapping stuff out and putting it away again.

Trudee · 01/10/2015 20:49

I wrap in one mammoth session at the start of December. We wait for the dc's to be asleep, haul everything out of the garage then barricade ourselves in the living room until it's all finished. I like to be able to see everything laid out in one place, however dh often gets a shock at this point as he has little to do with the actual purchasing.
I've not looked at my wrapping options yet this year, that will be happening soon when I venture out on my one and only real life xmas shopping trip into town.

Snausage · 01/10/2015 21:13

I tend to have a wrapping theme every year. I'm almost decided upon this year's, but not quite. I tend to wrap as I go along but I don't start before December. I do like to see the presents going under the tree!

NeverNic · 01/10/2015 21:14

Christmas presents are as much of a surprise to my oh as they are to the recipients! He hasn't wrapped a present in years!

I normally wrap in early November with Christmas films in the background. I spread out over a couple of evenings. Wrapping is the job I hate most. Whenever I leave it to the last minute I always regret it.

Icklepickle101 · 01/10/2015 21:30

Oh I love wrapping!!

Went to wrap but the Sellotape dispenser I bought didn't come with cello tape so packed it away for another day Sad

No, wrapping is fun done close to christmas- I also forget what I buy.
I sometimes buy items because they would be suitable for a couple of different family members and don't decide who they are for until the last minute- depending on what else I have bought.

I usually wrap a week or so before hand, wait for a Sunday afternoon when the kids are busy or OH takes them to the cinema, light a smelly christmas candle, put on some christmas music, pour myself a glass of wine.

A hugely enjoyable afternoon! I love wrapping!

CakeNinja · 01/10/2015 22:31

I haven't bought anything to wrap yet!

I wrap in December, takes flipping ages as I like to do ribbon and bells and all kinds of frippery, but can't do it until a) I have things to wrap, b) the right music or tv programmes and c) the smell of the Christmas tree to spur me on as I get bored!

I hate anyone trying to help me though Grin

DragonsCanHop · 01/10/2015 22:37

I also haven't bought anything to wrap yet. We only have our DC and each other to buy for so December shopping and wrapping here.

PesoPenguin · 01/10/2015 22:43

I wrap all the presents while dh is at his work Christmas party. His work lays on a massive do in London but its employees only while my work just do a meal out, so I take the time to wrap then to cheer me up!

Kuriusoranj · 02/10/2015 10:41

I've bought 90% of my presents so far, and the other day I wrapped about half of the things I have bought. My excuse is that we don't really have anywhere much to keep things hidden, and I was worried about the children opening the cupboard I'm using. Better they see a pile of wrapped presents than a pile of almost-transparent carrier bags.

So that's the reason. Honest. Nothing to do with the fact that I am Christmas obsessive, cannot wait for December 1st so I can see all this stuff under the tree and get unbearably excited from this point on. Nope. Nothing at all to do with that. Summat about cupboards, that's the only reason.

RuggerHug · 02/10/2015 11:29

I'm picking up the brown paper and tags this weekend to do the ones I have. I have the 'Do not open until December 25th' stamper, ink and ribbons ready though. I WILL have them all ready by Dec!!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/10/2015 14:33

Last year I bought boxes, ribbons and tissue paper for the smaller presents .
Bags for the bulkier ones.

Makes it much easier and it does take a while to unwrap so there's still the anticipation there,

If you buy and wrap too early you might be more prone to The Twitch.

But if you wait and set everything out to compare who gets what, there might be huge discrepancies and you'll be prone to The Twitch.....

Pah you're going to get The Twitch aren't you Xmas Wink

Beth2511 · 02/10/2015 14:42

ruggerHug where do you get your brown paper from?

wonkywheel · 02/10/2015 15:30

I've started wrapping! I love wrapping but it always seems to take forever so I loathe trying to do too many presents at once, starting now I an just do 2 or 3 as the mood takes me and not run out of steam so I started last week when I found Christmas paper in Tesco Blush - DH was convinced we were getting dirty looks from someone looking through the summer sales clothes because we were actually buying Christmas paper. Think it'll make me less likely to twitch because then I'll be able to tick people off as completely done and will try to forget about them.

I wanted to get brown paper and decorate it but I got chalkboard design paper last year - it was gorgeous but IL's were very sniffy about us using BLACK paper because it 'looked a bit funerally' (it had loads of designs on in white, wasn't plain black!) so am forced to conform a little bit this year. Daft buggers ARE getting brown paper next year, like it or not!

MrsPear · 02/10/2015 15:38

No wrapping yet but spent ages pouring over catalogues / Pinterest deciding on design / stamps etc and spent far too much on them and am now waiting delivery! Brown paper / Kraft boxes with red trim and trees stamped on hm labels. Love Christmas crafting!

Bellebella · 02/10/2015 15:48

I wrapped a couple of bits yesterday actually. Just my mum's presents and two cousins because they are all done and dusted. I don't want to leave it all until December because it takes ages and it's hard to do around my two year old.

candykane25 · 02/10/2015 20:49

I have started wrapping but probably only about one quarter way through. I bought very glossy fancy paper in the Jan sales and lots of nice ribbom and tape all 75% off .
I enjoy wrapping and making the presents look enticing ( i have bought giant lollipops to put on childrens presents) but hate the mammoth mountain stress soblike to spread it out over time.

goblinhat · 02/10/2015 20:53

I find wrapping an easy task.

I sell 6000 items on ebay/Amazon a year, and wrap each package myself.

Wrapping only 100 or so gifts for christmas is quick and easy!!

Icklepickle101 · 03/10/2015 08:46

Right I'm starting today!!

I'm also doing the brown papaw, string, tags & stamps so have l need lots of time to make it all pretty

WoahBodyforrrrm · 03/10/2015 09:02

beth I recently got 20m of Kraft paper from Amazon for £5.09, 50 kraft labels for less then £2 and 300m of red and white twine for £10.99 all with free delivery. That's wrapping sorted for the next year or so! I also ordered a personalised stamp from the English stamp company so I can just write the recipients name on the tag and stamp my large families name on the brown paper saving a lot of writing for me

themumfairy · 03/10/2015 14:34

Normally I wrap as I go but with pregnancy, work and amongst other things I'm behind. Maternity starts in December so I'm planning on doing it all then.
I've worked out with my two boys that if I wrap their presents in opposite colours I don't need to label them ? last year I did my eldest in red and my youngest in blue. Saved a lot of time.

AsTimeGoesBy · 03/10/2015 15:06

I don't like brown paper at all, no matter how it's decorated. Bright colours and patterns all the way here.
